Welcome to Baltimore, Breshad Perriman

1,115 posts in this topic

I was a huge fan of the mosley pick..same with jernigan.

I loved Daryl smith at georgia tech.

These guys are football players.

Perriman is an oakland raider like pick ( pre khalil mack)

You watched Daryl Smith at Georgia Tech? When was that, 2003? You must have good memory.

Hey, guys, any chance of keeping this thread on-topic (ie Perriman), and discussing the kid on his merits?

I understand the frustration, but we've veered WAAAY off here.

while id love that, the conversation is always gonna find its way back to the torrey smith comparisons and its gonna spark arguments everytime because some folks around here are correct and the others are too lazy to find out for themselves that they are not alike. its going to happen repeatedly until perriman steps on the field for us and shows people that they are quite different styles of wr

btw..the steelers made the same mistake as us picking bud dupree.

an athletic freak that actually is rather clueless of a OLB.

The fact that the front office groaned after he was picked was a bad sign for me. Way too oakland raider like..get the fastest guy mentality.

I can't take you seriously when you say you hope Dupree falls to us before the draft, then bash him a few months later.

You haven't even seen Perriman play yet.

agreed, and the Torrey comparisons are a valid avenue of conversation.

I was referring to the analysis of a certain poster's opinions on every draft pick we've ever made.

So basically from his presser in college he just won because he was better then the other guys. Now he's getting NFL coaching and NFL caliber talent to compete against in practice, so he's vastly improved. I'm loving what I'm hearing about Perriman and what Engram is doing. Listening to Perriman makes it even clearer to me that drafting him was more about Engram then anything. Ozzie and company had to have faith that Engram could clear up what issues that Perriman had in college.

This guys ceiling is so high it's ridiculous. It'll be interesting to see how this kid develops.

brett perriman ( his dad) was the opposite of his son..he was an excellent route runner with great hands.

I was amping up the cj mosley and jernigan pick before they played an nfl snap.

and no just because someones dad was good doesn't mean their son is going to be good ( not everyones the long family)

Brett Perriman was not a great route runner entering the league. He was an undersized player who relied on speed. He adapted his game and developed route running ability to remain effective and relevant.

Do some homework.

And you're right it doesn't mean Breshad will be good. But he's got more talent than his father did. If he has the same work ethic he'll be much better.

Mason was the best WR we have had as a Raven, Torrey is the best WR we have drafted, not really much to debate there

Hopefully Perriman can dethrone both of them in due course.

Exact quote from the Ravens reporters: "When Ravens first-round wide receiver Breshad Perriman initially reported for rookie camp in May, he hardly knew how to get in a proper stance."

...what?

And we all know news reporters are authorities when it comes to football technique... or maybe not. Maybe we should blame the (clueless) coaching staff at UCF for not correcting these things?

Just like Maryland coaches didn't seem to mind Torrey's body catching...

Anyhow, coaching at the professional level (along with veteran mentorship) has done wonders for many a player. Here's to Breshad working his behind off and becoming an absolute stud by year 3!

Go Ravens!

Yeah we will see, I'll post my thoughts on it in a bit here as I will probably get a full preview for the season rolling along. In summary though I think a 2011 Torrey season would have me pretty happy with him and I think being able to fit in as that deep threat would be a good short term goal for him. I think there would be a bit more of a gap to Mason but it can happen if Perriman develops as he has plenty of potential.

derrick mason was one the best route runners i've ever seen. Great hands too. High IQ guy.

I can't see perriman coming close to masons on field awareness.

this i'll agree with.

derrick mason is simply one of the most underrated WRs to ever play the game, along with jimmy and rod smith. i have never seen a better technician, and he played with so much heart.

derrick mason is my all time favorite raven, yes even more than ray lewis.

Same :)

I think he was an all pro calibre player for an entire decade.

I remember back in 2008 when he was catching those passes with one arm due to an injury, guy was a beast.

To clarify on Perriman just so it isn't taken out of context, Perriman would need to develop quite a bit in order for it to even be a conversation, I just don't like ruling anything out at this point good or bad as it is way too early to tell.

Just sounds like just a bad knock on a fall, I have no problem if he sits out tomorrow if it's swollen. Either way I was very pleased with the reports I read about him. The drop and false start just sound like nerves, first day of NFL training camp is a big deal for a 21 year old and I can imagine I would have some anxiety at the very beginning too. Especially as a WR, a lot more racing through your mind than most positions.

Sounds like he was flying around out there though, this kid is definitely a playmaker. After going back and watching film on him for the first time since draft season he was even better than I remembered. A strong arm QB like Flacco compliments his style really well. When Perriman had Bortles it put him in position to really make some special plays and I think he get's that back and more with Joe.

On the diving catch in the video on the home page, shows great ball tracking. Last second adjustment to snap the catch while keeping his feet in bounds.

Gotta love that.

This guy has stud potential but all people will see is his drops in college and his 4.25 speed and thing the Ravens toi a chance on a speed guy to replace Torrey. Perriman has top of the line talent and the speed is just a part of his game. I see Trestman using Perriman to attack every level of the defense. I think of all our recent OCs that Trestman will be the perfect guy to utilize Perriman's full potential.

I hope so also. Hopefully Trestman wont make everyone situational players like our OC's in the past. I want to see Perriman running a full route tree during games. Not just go routes and run as fast as he can.

Was able to be at practice today and was pretty impressed with Perriman.  He had one drop on a long pass that he probably should have had and a drop in drills early, but otherwise, he was catching everything with his hands and definitely attacking the pass - with his hands and at the height of his jump.  Definitely looked a lot different from Torrey (not trying to bang on Torrey, but it definitely was not one of his strengths).

I know it's early of course, but was there anyone surprising that really stood out to you?  Someone around here last year said Kamar Aiken was the big surprise and he ended up making it, so curious to see if there's a guy I can follow this year in that regard.

Only real surprise I saw was that Campanaro was running with the 3rds and 4ths and didn't see any time (that I saw at least) with the 1st and 2nds.

With Webb out, Pointer saw a lot of action with the top units (ahead of Asa and Tray Walker) and seemed to hold his own pretty well, especially considering he's someone we know - and have heard - very little about.

On another note, Waller is huge.  I know we all knew that, but when you see him out there standing with the WRs, it's really startling.  He's not a natural catcher with his hands, but I didn't see many drops from him.

Thanks for the update, especially the DBs. Heard a lot about Melvin getting reps in place of Webb, so it's definitely interesting to hear about Pointer too.
