Thoughts on Trestman

I dont think players bodies could handle playing 8 more games and playoff games not to mention it devalues the regular season as a whole.  The NFL currently has the perfect amount of games with the perfect setup time for games and I would not be interested in changing that.

ok then..at least 4..

Rugby is brutal and there are no in game breaks and they play 34 games plus in a season and have a 2.5 month layoff.

I'm sorry but if NFL players can't take a measly 20 games then they are hardly the athletes they think they are...9 months is ridiculous.

If(God allows) we make it to the super bowl this year I wanna face a team we never play like the Cowboys or Eagles.

Be careful what you wish for.

People thought 49ers fans were bad during SB week? Wow that would just be annoying. But we would obliterate the Eagles..sending them home still without a Lombardi would be great.

Yeah I can't stand it when people refer to the NFL as a long grueling season.

The NHL is just as physical and they play 82 games with a playoff that lasts from April until June.

Cry me a river, these guys are the most pampered babies out there.

MB (Marlon Brown) is BM (Brandon Marshall) reversed. So yes I think Marlon Brown is the next Brandon Marshall. Lol.

I'll take it. Lol was a huge Marshall fan before seeing his career actually play out with all the different issues on different teams.

man I wish I could just skip to September . This offseason has been Dreadfully slow. Posts like this just get me so impatient. I have the same feeling about those 2 guys. Then you have SSS and Aiken as well. I honestly think that all of the receivers and RBs will play an equal role in the passing game and the ball will just be spread around so much that defenses are going to get lost and left off balance. We may not even see a 1000 yard receiver- but we may have 4 or 5 guys with around 700 -800 yards each, marlon and Gilmore will each catch Between 8-10 Tds. Now go ahead and tell me I'm being too optimistic and unreasonable, criticism is welcomed and will make joes immaculate season that much sweeter!

I agree with no 1000 yard WR because I think Brown and Aiken will basically share snaps like last season only this time SR won't get as many snaps. This will sound crazy but if the Ravens can reduce Steve Smith's role this offense will be much off.

I won't call you unreasonable at all. I love big thinkers, in fact i think one of the biggest reasons my many more people don't ever reach a level of greatness is because they try to hard to be realistic. It's going to be interesting to see who the leading WR will be because i don't think it'll be Steve Smith Sr.

Apples and oranges. Hockey players are on skates, have far more padding on their bodies, and play in controlled environments.

The body issue isn't about skill players it's about linemen. You don't have 300 lb men trying to dominate each other on every play in hockey. You would need a second shift of lineman if you added many more games and there aren't enough athletic 300 pounders to round out the starting lines of all 32 teams, so much as a whole second group of them.

I can tell you from playing hockey that it's absolutely grueling to play. You're on ice, which is already a very hard surface, and getting pounded into boards and thrown onto ice. Not to mention if you fight, it's just a five minute major. I mean, it's a very taxing sport. You also have stuff like this happening...

I think NFL players could take a few extra games. They'd need to add a second bye week later in the season, but they could take two to four more games, in my opinion. It'd definitely be nice to have football season be longer.

Oh no I understand. My point is not that hockey isn't physically demanding, of course it is and immensely so. My point is that trying to say hockey players play 82 and therefore football players are babies for not wanting to go above 16 operates from a false premise. In reference to that link, I'll give you that hockey players have grit (as do football players, see: Mason, Derrick), but honestly I think that culture is arcane and frankly a little silly. I like a bit of violence as much as the next guy but when you start to border on blood sport and you're being applauded for how few teeth you have...I think you need to reassess your priorities lol.

And the "fights?" Just a flat out waste of time. Getting way OT here though...Trestman coached in the Canada though so....that's something lol.

Guys we need to keep this a Trestman thread. An extended season is a great topic but let's keep it separate from this one.

I agree... Because 20 games is ridiculous.

I like Trestman a lot. I think Kubiak was a little too predictable. That's why Houston was all over us. Trestman will get more out of Flacco and the downfield passing (which we for some reason went away from).

Trestman will throw a ton more than Kubes and especially to his RB, Forsett. Last year his RB caught 102 passes for 808 yards and Forsett can't wait who caught 44 passes.

So that suggests Forsett won't run the ball as much where he excelled as a rushing leader in NFL.

Not quite.

It should also be noted that Marc Trestman has stated that he plans on sticking with the zone blocking scheme that benefited Forsett so much in Gary Kubiak’s system in 2014. Even without the rushing volume, we can look forward to similar efficiency from Forsett in a scheme that saw him average 5.39 yards per carry last season, the best mark in the league for backs with at least 100 rushes.

If Trestman brings the passing success that we have become accustomed to, increased red zone opportunities and a huge uptick in receptions could yield another top 10 PPR season for Forsett.

Joe has already picked up the new wrinkles Trestman

added to the system and is raving about him because Joe knows Trest's

offenses in passing have been in the top half of the league as a coordinator

and head coach.

I'm excited about this offense under Trestman.

Part of the reason Cutler threw so often to his RB was b/c he was flustered/frustrated with everything and just wanted to get rid of the ball. I seriously doubt we'll be throwing 100x to our RBs. Cutler, like RG3, is regressing and needs a total restart to rebuild his confidence.

You didn't read the link. He always uses his RB to throw to except once.

There is strong evidence that Marc Trestman will almost always utilize his feature back in the passing game, and that the averages are not skewed by a couple of running backs that were over utilized in the passing game. A Trestman feature running back has averaged less than 15 touches per game (12th in 2014)  just once, and has caught at least 3 balls per game (12th in 2014)  in every season except for one.*

Trestman basically game-plans Ray Rice type numbers for rushes and receptions and I have zero problem with that. And I'm not arguing Trestman's history, just noting the Chicago/Cutler clustermuck. Marc should have all the weapons/talent he needs to orchestrate a top 10 offense.

Sitting here watching a recap of the Bears 2014 season and im really excited about the creativity and aggressiveness Trestman will bring. Trestman basically manufactured a deep pass game in Chicago without having many if any deep threat options. Jeffery is a guy who didn't create much separation coming out of college and doesn't really do a good job of it with the Bears but Trestman did a great job creating opportunities for him. This will present a huge opportunity for a guy like Marlon Brown or Aiken which ever one steps up. Both guys have the ability to make plays down the field but those opportunities in Kubes offense were limited. Trestman will give those guys chances. Of course Perriman will play a big factor in downfield success as well.

I've said this before, but i think Gilmore could really be a breakout type guy under Trestman. Marc did a great job of using Bennett's size as an advantage over smaller safeties and LBs. I definitely can see him doing the same with Gilmore. Trestman will pass the ball at lot on 1st downs and working out of a base set Gilmore could benefit from this greatly.

I don't know what type of Head Coach Trestman was, but from what I've seen he definitely passes the test as a OC and o can't wait to see what his offense looks like with Flacco running it.

And I notice that our team's highlights are on tonight. But I don't understand why very few people understand this about Gilmore. If the dude improves his route running, this guy could be a LEGIT TE in the game.

Totally agree that Gilmore's going to surprise some people. Even last year his impact was underrated. He was wearing linebackers out in ways you just don't see from guys that aren't Gronkowski or Heath Miller in his prime. The man is a mismatch in every sense of the word. He's shown to have catching ability and understands play design, so if he can get craftier in his routes and with body positioning he's going to be a straight up terror.

He just doesn't have the foot speed to blow up the seam.  But in a WCO he's a golden if he can improve his breaks.

I agree that the plodding style of running he's had historically will not serve him in the mid-deep passing game but reports say that along with his weight he's added speed. We'll see if he's added some quickness as well.
