2015 Draft a Franchise: Announcement Thread

196 posts in this topic

Could we add a 27th round, and add the option to draft a head coach? I'd make the rule come into play in like the eighth round or something so the people who pick at the end of the order get the first swing at one. Maybe like the 12th round so it's more of an equaliser.

Just a thought.

Like the idea of drafting a HC...would prefer we start the draft by taking our HC so we can build with system and scheme in mind...or just take a HC at the very end that fits what we drafted...I was thinking just opposite order of who picks first on players so the last pick gets a very nice consolation

I'm not the biggest fan of drafting head coaches. There's a monumental downside to picking at the end of the round. Since each team is allowed only one HC, there won't be a second round, meaning there's no snake format to compensate for the positioning of the ones picking their coach at the tail end, positioning that is determined entirely by luck.

My reasoning for a reverse order to the first round (ie, one of the even-numbered rounds) is to make up for the disadvantage of missing out on a franchise QB, which a snake draft format really doesn't make up for imo.

I suggested weaving it into the draft so people can weigh up how much any particular coach means to them against the players, but I wouldn't be opposed to a coaches round at the start either.

This would be fair - if people who get early picks want a HC instead of a franchise player, all power to them. Forcing HC choice in the first would mean whoever gets a spot #1 has a great coach but is looking at potentially 62 players flying off the board before his second and third picks.

Coaches round is OK, as long as it's completely separate from players draft.

That's an interesting idea. My thoughts were if you made them eligible from (say) round 8, there'd be 5-10 guys who'd clearly get picked up over any other players and from there it becomes kind of a sliding scale based on who people like. But those 5-10 guys would end up going to the players who missed out on franchise (or even just decent) QBs, so I figure it would be a decent leveller.

I'm not opposed to implementing it in the first either, it would be another tactical wrinkle and give more players a shot at a genuine franchise piece.

If y'all are willing to take me back after I fell off the radar in the last game, I would love to participate!

I don't see why not.  You've participated in other games multiple times and were always fine.

I wouldn't mind throwing HC into the talent pool, but allowing them to be selected anywhere at all in rounds 1-26. It would be interesting at least to see where Belichick gets selected.

Lol, that would be the team whose GM likes to cheat.

I'm inclined to agree with this idea. I'd be more in favor of this idea than the idea of having a separate draft for the HC that flips the first round order of the player draft. The premise of the other proposal assumes that only one position will be drafted in the beginning of the first round, meaning that GMs at the top of first who select players from other positions will fall victim to a process which assumes they'd be selecting their signal caller. I personally prefer your proposal.

I'd be behind this

One thing about drafting HCs though, you should be allowed to draft any coach, not just guys that are current NFL HCs. You can get a positional coach, a coordinator, or a college coach. That might make it more interesting.

We could have it to where we could draft an entire staff at once. Like if you wanted John Harbaugh you could say that you drafted the entire ravens coaching staff for instance.

I like this idea.

I like this idea.

I don't personally. I think it pigeon holes the offensive and defensive schemes of the teams who select the HCs because of their staff. I'd rather have it where we can select OCs and DCs separately or something of the sort.

picking HC, OC, and DC is fine as well,as long as the assistant coaches like Oline, WR don't also need to be selected.

Don't worry, I don't see the latter happening. Would be way too specific.

Agree and would take much longer than anticipated because of the size of some staffs.  Although there are a bunch of OL, WR, QB and ST coaches that I really like that I'd take a stab at if it came into play.  Is Air Coryell avaiable!

When do we plan on starting the draft?

We have the green light as of yesterday, so we'll begin as soon as we've filled up all the spots.

So is there scoring in any way? Or games or anything? Or is it basically a draft for fun? Just wondering

This is basically just for fun.  We sometimes a person or two will go through and give their rankings on the teams.  We'd be glad to have you!

Might have to accept that we won't get 32 people involved.

We're definitely kicking that notion around. We have had all 32 in our past two seasons so we'll try our best to fill the spots.

No, there's light in the room coming from laptops. They all wear black hats and sun glasses though.

In all seriousness though, if you can think of a board member who might be interested in participating, PM them about the game. I feel like the problem is people don't come into the Fantasy Talk area right now.
