Ravens and Jimmy Smith agree to contract extension.

the 6 games jimmy played last year before the injury

I mistaken you.... I thought you meant he only played 6 quality games in his career lol.

I'm trusting the Ravens did their due diligence. Pitta & Webb both had their own different issues. I think it's fair to say Jimmy is on a different level then those two were at the time they signed their deals. Also with how CB's get paid today, betting on Jimmy to bounce back now is a wise decision IMO.

I used to be on the fence about it. But after seeing what some CB's got this offseason, and the direction it's going in, Jimmy is definitely worth top 10 money. Let's all just hope he stays healthy.

$12 mil a year is pretty low considering that almost every new CB deal last year broke the previous one. And Jimmy is definitely one of the best CBs in the league.

i wouldn't say he was great at all in 2013..he was pretty bad actually

i really hope this is a joke.

2013 he was playing at an pro bowl level at least, shutting guys down like calvin johnson and brandon marshall lol

id give a deal like that or slightly better to chris mcallistair. Jimmy is a top 15 CB when healthy but i really do question his durability.\

is he better then Maxwell? Hell yeah! i still think we overpaid tho..Kareem Jackson has been a better corner than jimmy for several years and he's not getting paid what he is

Some people here are completely clueless.. Just completely clueless

Great deal

21 million guaranteed is too much for a corner who is injury prone . I'm gonna tell you right now he will never play the full upcoming season without missing games . Freakin guaranteed .

No.. Just no

Jimmy's ceiling is a top 3 CB in this league.. Kareem could never hit that

Jimmy showed his potential last year.. Did you see the immediate change in the entire defense when he was gone

Why am I even responding?

Guys it doesn't matter.  You either pay Jimmy, or you never pay a corner ever.  Considering how difficult it is to develop CBs in todays NFL through the draft quality corners basically have the teams over a barrel.  This is the best the ravens could do in an imperfect market.

I noticed in the Press Conference Ozzie quickly noted that he sees this as a 5 year deal ( not a 4 year extension. )

Saw report of averaging just under 10M annually.

&

Different report of the extension being 4yr, 48M w/ 21M guaranteed.

So I'll wait for the Ravens to release details of contract with the 5yr also.

The last 2 off-seasons corners have been receiving big contracts. Seems reasonable as long as he his healthy he will be worth every penny.

From what I understand about the 5th year extensions is they're guaranteed.  So part of that guaranteed is this years salary maybe?

#22 is a top 3 corner in the NFL. This is a bargain deal for Ravens. I couldn't be happier how things turned out.

Now I'm not getting into a pissing match with some of you, but some of you are taking into account Jimmy's potential and not what he has actually done on the field, into saying he is already a top 3 CB in the NFL. How can you possibly make an argument for him being better than Revis, Sherman, Peterson, Haden, Vontae Davis, Talib, etc.

He has the potential but he has to stay on the field and stay healthy. Just going off of what we know, he is a major injury concern so we can only speculate. But there's not chance in hell he is a top 3 cb right now.

One done, one to go - Yanda next Ozzie!

What an awesome way to spend our unspent cap space! Sign our own home bred stars Ozzie and we can't go wrong period. Only if Pitta would be healthy enough to play this year, we would be a really really awesome team! One that could win it all this year imo.

It sounds like it's 48m over the next 5 years. 10.275/yr in "new money", so the 7 he was gonna make this year + 4 years, $41m.

From Aaron Wilson ( ):%C2'>

Jimmy Smith $13 million signing bonus, $1M base salary this year, $7 million guaranteed in 2016, $8.5M in 2017, $9M in 2018, $9.5M 2019

So $13m signing bonus over 5 years is $2.6/yr. His cap hit this year would only be $3.6m? Next year's base is guaranteed, hence the $21m total guarantee ($13 + $1 + $7).

Overall average at < $10m/yr. Not too bad.

Some of these comments are crazy.

The high price to pay for a free agent CB is insane. I'm so happy we extended Jimmy rather than chase a FA CB and having to pay a lot more, especially considering that the new addition will have inferior talent and production, at a higher price.

So happy we made a deal now.

Glad and very pessimistic at the same time. I just hope our organization has a regime for jimmmy to get him better every year.

Jimmy needs to find a way to stay on field. I'm sure he has pondered and find few ways to avoid injuries. Just wish him luck.

I won't get into a huge fight over other corners in the NFL, but do people realize how much Peterson gets burned for touchdowns? He gets lit up a lot. And to bring up Talib and Haden? You're living on name recognition, not actually watching them at that point

Sweeeeet!! I'm just happy he's signed. Elite defenses always have a shutdown corner and you gotta keepem when you have them.

Yeah Peterson and Haden in particular were pretty bad last year.

Good move by the Ravens. Jimmy is a legit #1 shutdown corner on this defense, and should be now entering his prime. I think this is a case of identifying a player could be about to break out, and making sure we don't lose him like other guys.

Man, why are people upset we secured our #1 CB? It's a huge deal for us to have security there. It's true that Jimmy has his injury history but it's mostly been different injuries. I'd never really been the same injuroverrt and over except, I think, a concussion. There are other CB who are significantly more overpaid

Vontae Davis was a stud last year. Talib is often injured but has been very good for more than 1 year. Haden has shown he can be a shut down corner. Peterson has better physical gifts than Jimmy. If some of you can say Jimmy can be a top 3 cb based on potential, I don't see why I can't throw out names that I feel have shown more than him at this point in time.
