ouch

sorry guys..i don't think he's worth that..esp coming off an injury

we overpaid and the league knows it.

He's expected to make a full recovery, so the injury doesn't bother me and he was a top 5 corner before being injured.

I don't know how the rest of the league knows it since it was just announced minutes ago and the league has yet to have serious time to comment on it, but you do you... or don't

I am also skeptical because of his injury history but IMO 9x out of 10 it is always better to sign a year early than let a guy hit FA. Mainly because we will never win a bidding war if Jimmy hit the open market and I think he would go over 12Mill a year. Smart move

I just feel he hasn't shown enough for long enough to warrant such a deal..

Byron Maxwell while overpaid and overrated played decent enough for 3 years to earn his deal..

jimmy played 6 v good games last year and now gets this?

You don't pay out of potential but out of body of work..and i don't think jimmy has earned that.

Guess I'm getting his jersey.

Also 21 mil guaranteed isn't bad.  This is just the market for Corners.  It's ridiculous

12 mil a year is steep. Sorry but I figured they would get a better deal for extending him a year beforehand. If they paid him 12 mill this year, that means they must of believed he would be worth around 14-15 mill next offseason which is Revis and Sherman territory. Sorry guys, but one year of good play does not warrant getting paid like those two who have been doing it for years now.

12 million a year sounds like a lot, but I imagine they put a lot of the cap hit on the back end so they could just extend him the next time around.  He'll only be 31 at the end of the deal anyway - he could play well for at least another 8 years if he stays healthy, so there's plenty of room for an extension down the road.

Its not that..but haven't we learnt with Webb and Pitta?

Jimmy smith isn't C-mac. Hes a good corner..a top 15 one. He hasn't shown that he can remain healthy and he has had his struggles up until last year where he was doing good…6 games is not enough to warrant a massive contract..im sorry but i said this even with webb ( and he actually showed more) that giving him such a big deal after 1 very good season is ridiculous.

I'm seeing a lot of comments on these main websites about him being worth half of that....People never hearing of him before....overpaid, yada-yada.... Well even though I'm not the biggest PFF fan, I'm glad they tweeted this out.

@PFF: Before his injury last season #Ravens CB Jimmy Smith was 2nd amongst all CBs, allowing just 0.57 Yards Per Coverage Snap

Our guys know what they're doing. Anyone who labeled jimmy a bust sometime in his 1st year or 2 was strongly mistaken. He's had injury concerns but that doesn't mean he's prone. A couple of those could have been freak accidents. When healthy, he's worth getting overpaid for. A lot of other teams would've happily given him that.

This is great news and a fine price to pay! I am so happy we did this. I'm concerned about his injury history but he's the real deal. He's worth it

Webb was epic in 2011 and even before his injury in 2012 didn't look as good.

6 games is not enough..antoine cason in 2009 was a top 6 corner in PFF

just saying

contract makes him the 5th highest when looking at avg per year.

total money he is 9th highest

guaranteed he is paid 10th highest.

im not so sure why people think its a bad deal.

richard sherman got a 4 year 56 mil deal with 40 mill guaranteed .

byron maxwell just got a 6 year 63 mil deal with 25.5 mill guaranteed....

People tend to think interceptions are the only stat to determine if a corner is good, until Jimmy has a 5+ int season he'll be kinda flying under the radar in our small market

Oh jeeze hahaha. Please provide alternates. Please enlighten us on how we should handle this? Let Jimmy walk next year and start over with CB? Turn to the draft with so many busts each year at DB? Turn to FA?? Hope Asa, Levine, or another low paid younger DB can produce in place for Jimmy??? Please , how do you replace Jimmy's production at a cheaper cost????

What should we have done with Webb and Pitta? Not pay them because we magically saw them getting injured? How about all the good deals we have given? Stop pinpointing the bad and ignoring the good.

Good deal, good player, good job Ravens

6 games?

he played great in the 2012 play offs and for the entire 2013 season and improved even more for the 2014 season.

He gets injured a LOT

ok don't all moan if he gets another season ending injury etc..you pay players big money when they have shown the following

2 years plus of elite play

Durability

Need

Jimmy only ticks the last box.

If we don't sign Jimmy this year, we have to match him with Sherman's deal which is double amount of guaranteed money and about 30% for base salary.

Jimmy is the real deal and the deal is cheap, comparing to other corners around the league.

Beside, the total money is nothing; the important thing about NFL contract is guaranteed money.  There's going to be lots of clauses and condition in the contract like if he injures, he won't get certain amount of money or if he stays healthy and play at high level, he gets all his money in length of his contract.
