Ravens Off-Season Workouts Beginning

23 posts in this topic

It's back!

The official offseason workouts for the Ravens begin today. During the next two weeks, known as "Phase 1", the players will mostly be doing conditioning/weights and classroom work.

After that, on May 4th during a three-week period known as "Phase 2", players and coaches can take the field for drills and practice - although no live contact or full-team (11 vs 11) drills are permitted.

After that, "Phase 3" aka Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are scheduled to take place at the end of May, beginning May 26th. Full-team drills are allowed although still no live contact.

That's it for the foreseeable future until mandatory minicamp in June.

The players will be returning to Baltimore to get their work in and get started on the 2015 campaign. These workouts are voluntary so not everyone will be there - historically Ed Reed and Ray Lewis trained separately in Miami - but there will likely be good attendance.

OH yeah!

Pitta looked like he is planning on playing in the video!

That was refreshing watching him walk around and all... Really hope he comes back and comes back strong!

i love Pitta and he's a great TE, but he needs to hang it up. one more hit on that hip and hes spending his life in a wheelchair.

Well, his doctors cleared him... But thanks again for your expert advice.

Lol remember when the doctors (who are smarter than you) said the two injuries were unrelated? Yeah, I didn't think you did.

my point

your head

the doctors cleared him because he can run around with a football. doesnt mean a hit to his hip wont derail his career. if you seriously think that pitta is completely fine to hit the field without any risk, you are simply oblivious to common sense.

The wrong hit would derail anyones career. I bet Pitta knows his body better than you do and if wants to play then let him.

Yup, Pitta was working out good to see that.

From what I could ID: Flacco, Schaub, Wenning, Bryn Renner, Forsett, Taliaferro, Juszczyk, Marlon Brown, Kamar Aiken, Gilmore, Supernaw, Allen Reisner, Zuttah, Hurst, Urschel, Marcel Jones, Ryan Jensen, Brandon Williams, DeAngelo Tyson, Mosley, Upshaw, Zach Orr, McClellan, Kendrick Lewis (maybe), Elam, Levine, Trawick, Asa Jackson (maybe), and more I'm not recognizing immediately from the pictures.

Jimmy Smith was also there although he looked to be in all sweats, not running just yet.

His hip socket was naturally larger than a normal person's which is why the bone popped out easily and why in both cases there wasn't any serious damage.

I don't have any facts or knowledge to back this up, just know a former pro soccer player that had the same issue and injury... But he was able to have a procedure where they placed an implant that decrease the size of the opening of his hip socket to avoid having the bone pop out.

Went on to have a great career and no further issues.

Pitta could have had this done. Either way it's entirely possible it's never an issue again. It never happened before and the socket was that way his entire life. Could it happen again? Sure. But it's just as likely if not more likely it doesn't happen again.

And I don't get the whole thing about he should hang it up, he should be concerned about his long term health, etc.... In both injuries there was absolutely no structural damage whatsoever. Once it's reset and heals it's no worse for wear. There's almost no risk of long term complications or issues.

Think I saw Eugene Monroe as well. But really good and comprehensive list.

Figures he'd be there since he is a workaholic but I couldn't place him in anything I saw, good catch

Mod Note: This thread is not about Dennis Pitta's playing potential, just to share news from the workouts.

The Pitta talk turned sour, too.

No offense but that is pretty much the biggest thing we can take away from the workouts thus far.  I mean when healthy he is one of our best players, not to mention at a position that is arguably our biggest need at the moment and we have a decent amount of money invested in him...but yeah I don't know why it needs to turn into a bunch of us playing doctor...I can say one thing, I am happy he is out there and I think when all is said and done he will give it another go because I think he loves to play football.  I like to think that I am a nice guy and want what is best for every one in most cases...when it comes to being a life fan of the Baltimore Ravens, I want what is best for the team, whatever gives them the best chance to win.  I don't get comments like "Pitta should hang in up so he doesn't live the rest of his life in a wheelchair"....I don't get those comments...these guys sign up to play the game knowing that the next hit they take can change the way they will live their lives...but that is true from day one and doesn't change...Pitta is a pivotal piece to the offense...and maybe even more pivotal to Joe.

You're right about that and I don't mean to stymie that type of discussion but the conversation turned 'sour' as I called it when posters took others' opinions personally and attacked one another. Not pointing fingers or naming names but if we can refrain from that, we can talk Pitta working out until the sun comes down.

My head keeps rolling a picture that every time Pitta on the field, the defense will scream "cover the white tight end! cover the white tight end!"
