Where does he rank. Troy/Reed Debate? What more is there to say.

I never felt that there was a debate. One was a FS and the other was a SS.

At this I point I wouldn't mind him staying another year. It was 08-10 where he made our lives hell. Since then I don't really remember him making any game changing plays.

What is the chance they elect Ed Reed HOF first before Troy the linebacker?

Ed...please retire!  HOF committee doesnt grant safety hof that often...

Oh, 20 will go into the HoF once he's eligible. He's a guaranteed 1st ballot.

I'd say he and Troy are both first ballot locks. Be interesting if they get into the HoF in the same year. Would be an interesting induction weekend I imagine.

Oh dear Heavens! Make the Troy love all over my feed from NFL & ESPN stop! Please!

I swear, if Mink has a big ol' pic of Hairball tomorrow & a lovefest story about his retirement I'll puke.

He's been a credit to the Steelers organisation and model professional during his career. If he wasn't a Steeler I'd be a lot more sad that I won't see him suit up anymore. Still, much respect to him. He was a very worthy opponent.

I damn sure respect him but will not miss him at all. I almost wish he stuck around longer, he hasn't been an impact player in years and his presence has caused them not to draft a safety early. In his prime he was quite the menace freelancing all over the field, nowadays he get's caught out of position far too often because his speed an athleticism has faded and he can't play the way he's grown accustomed to.

Yeah, Troy was a great player. That said, he was not a Raven so please move this topic so I don't have to see his name in the Ravens forum.

You know NFL network and ESPN love them some Steelers I mean they are going to make us all puke by the amount of coverage for a guy who hasn't been good in 4-5 years. I know there was talk that they were going to force him to retire so they wouldn't have to cut him. I wonder if that was what happened. Also happy Bell got 3 games

And one of the last remaining Cowher-Steelers goes by the wayside. See ya.

I don't think HOF considers 'retirement', just 5 years out from when you last played. So Ed is elligible in 2018 (as long as no one signs/plays him) and Troy is up 2019. Both are considered 1st-ballot.

The "debate" is unnecessary!

This is about the retirement of one of the all-time greats to ever play at his position.  I absolutely loved watching him play...even against our Ravens.  Definitely going to miss him.  Thanks for all of the memories Troy!

Got a lot of respect for Troy and the way he carries himself. Sad to see him go since he fell off the last couple years....Definitely one of the all time greats. It's been a pleasure watching him ball. (Not all the time)

Ed played both positions and won the DPOY in '04 as a SS.

Ahhh thanks for correcting me. I just always viewed him as a FS though.

troy, woodley, harrison, roethlisberger, holmes, and ward for the steelers

ray, ed, joe, sizzle, torrey, and ngata for the ravens.

these players are what defined the rivalry that was hands down the most fierce and competitive one in the league for 6 of the past 7 or 8 years.

all but 3 players combined for both teams remain. troy hanging it up nearly wipes the slate clean of all those incredible games played between us, troy crushed our dreams multiple times and he just might be the steelers biggest contributor in tipping the scales for them to beat us in joes earlier years. end of an era, im honestly sad to see him go.

That strip sack of Flacco in that 2010 SNF game still gives me nightmares.

He's a Steeler but I've always liked Troy. Except for all the times he broke our hearts. Definitely agree that he was the biggest reason the Steelers had an edge on us from 2008-2010.

I heard the discussion on NFL...  they were saying he doesn't have to officially retire.  He would be eligible in 2018, 5 years after any player activity if no one makes him an offer.  That could be interesting.
