Hes tied with Evan Mathis. Im not bias..

Yanda and Mathis have been by far the best in recent years. Like i said if the eagles cut mathis id take him for a 1 year deal and put Yanda at center. It would make our running game unstoppable

playing players out of position has never been a recipe for succes.

this isent madden where things like this can be done with out consequence.

Once again I'm reminded of how glad I am that you don't run the team.

1. Mathis is old and falling off. Why sign an old guard for a one year rental when we don't need him?

2. Yanda hasn't played center since college, and even then I don't think he started there.

Mathis is one of those guys where he actually is getting better with age. If he had played the entire season last year he would have had a higher PFF rating than yanda

Yanda can play center EASY and actually be an ALL pro level one. HIs awareness is top notch

its a win now league. With how the cap works and how we can't ever really have a consistent identity having the best guard in football over the past 4 years with the other best guard is never a bad thing

Mathis is a dominant player. He literally erases DE's

our line was already one of the best lest year, it would be crazy to change it for Mathis, who would be on a one year contract.  It would kill the chemistry that was developed last year.

Yanda can play anywhere and mathis wouldn't destroy chemistry..the trio of osemele, Yanda and mathis would just make opposing d lines [profanity deleted] themselves

It's been a long time since Yanda played center and he is one of if not the best guard in the NFL, why move him to a position he hasn't played for a long time.  Also he will be playing RT when the season begins.

I think Wagner should be fine by the seasons start. I just don't think you get a drop off playing Yanda at center and with a monster like mathis at RG. Anyhow lets see if he actually gets cut.

im pretty sure mathis played LG in his career.

Doesnt matter. He would dominate on either side.

and you base this off?

Eye test. No RE or LE has a chance against him. I don't think you guys know how strong mathis is and how good his technique is. He has the strongest grip in the NFL. Even J J watt would struggle against him

eye test lol.

seems legit.

im pretty sure we all know how good mathis and yanda are.

but we all also know that having players play positions they have no experience playing is a recipe for disaster.

i think you dont know that every position along the o-line requires a slightly different technique and i think you underestimate the difficulty of doing something different then you are used to doing on the highest level.

mathis has always played on the left side of the o-line so its probaly not so easy to ditch what he has been doing for 11+ years to learn what it takes to play on the right side.

also you forget we gave up a pick and signed zuttah to a pretty decend contract which is way to much to just become a back up.

in madden you can do what you suggest with ease but in real life there are alot of things that have to be accounted for and tbh your suggestion makes little sense since there is little guaranteed that i can work other then the eye test.

being a GM you need alot more then the eye test to consider such a move.

risk far outweighs the reward, not to mention i dont think yanda and zuttah will be jumping for joy being asked to play a different position  or be on the bench for  1 year rental.

also i doubt mathis will come cheap and im quite positive their will be other teams who could offer him similiar or more money and he can play his natural position.

ow and you do know they can just line up watt anywhere on the d-line right?

I'm not much of a fan of facts. I'd much rather rock with the eye test...

Guards are usually blocking DTs or ILBs, not DEs, unless the guard pulls, or a end stunts inside.

Or if it's a combo block

Guards might block a DE on a trap block or a stunt, but guards rarely block DEs on pulls or combos (slight difference between pull and trap, but I'm just nitpicky). Guards frequently block 3-4 DEs, but those guys are aligned like DTs anyway.

Back to the main point, Yanda isn't playing center and Mathis isn't coming to Baltimore.

We should offer Mathis a deal and then when he comes to sign, tell him we moved on and sign some scrub LG and give him the bird. Literally. I am still salty.

who needs a passing game? This is a win now league. This would be the most dominant line the ravens have ever had and this league won't know what hit them

We ARE winning now.

We ARE winning now.

lets see

I felt we were in much better shape last year..

I'm mostly worried about the drop off at the D line. Suggs and Doom had epic seasons last year. Doubtful they will repeat to that extent.

Also worried about Daryl smith.Perhaps we draft a LB in round 2? I know the secondary will be better..

I def agree that we need a pass rushing hybrid ala Adalius Thomas in this draft

And how is Evan Mathis going to solve those problems. Not a single problem you listed there is on the O-line.

the O line is fine..its a v. good o line. I expect more from Monroe this year

but if it wants to be the best..getting mathis if he's cut will probably create the most dominant pass and run blocking in the league

I was trying to keep that memory locked away. I remember being ecstatic that we might've had Yanda AND Mathis. Back then it would have been phenomenal.

Is moving Yanda to center a serious suggestion?? Mathis is naturally a LG and Yanda a RG. So you think it makes sense that in your fairy tale world where we sign Mathis to then take the 2 best lineman on the team and make them both worse by playing them out of position???

An offensive line as a whole isn't always equal to the sum of it's parts. Playing on a different side of the line is very different. Your technique, footwork, and primary muscles used reverse. Guard to Center is even more different.

You can't say "eye test" when your eyes have NEVER seen Yanda play center Mathis play RG. The whole basis of the "eye test" is that you've actually SEEN what it is you're pretending to have knowledge of.

My eye test shows your post is full of holes and based on poor logic.

I think it was 12 after Grubbs left. We happened to draft some bum named Kelechi that year too. Mathis sure got the better end of that deal in 12...

Ozzie and the o line should've tweeted him a picture of their rings on the bird finger...

Yep. He's a real piece of work. I hope we did send him that picture lol. Mad respect if we did.

I really hope Yanda is next in line for a deal. If we ink Yanda and Tucker, I'm not sure what we'll do next off-season in terms of negotiating. I'm sure KO and Upshaw will be high priorities, but that's not a bad place to be. Yanda, Tucker and Jimmy were the core we needed to retain. I really hope Yanda and Tucker are next.

We are over 10M in cap space already with the Smith signing. If we sign Yanda and Tucker, I am thinking we'll be at least over 12M in available space. Don't you think that would be adequate to at least get K.O or Upshaw signed this year before the season begins?

Not necessarily. If we extend Yanda we could always give him more money this year to help reduce the back end of his contract. I still feel that Upshaw is someone we'll wait to sign, because I don't see a pressing need for either party to extend him. As for KO, I think it's very possible we could extend him but I feel like KO will want to play out his contract to maximize his value.
