Now that we've gotten this thread all confused with who is being discussed, please see the (new) FAs by position threads. Maybe we can have "organized" discussion in those.

Gracias.  Seeing all of those threads for one specific player were getting on my nerves lol.  I can only imagine what you mods have to deal with.

We're going for something in between 1000 individual threads and one big thread. Hopefully the 4 threads will work out.

I honestly really want us to make a move for Shorts

Shorts is a good player and The Ravens really liked him  in the 2011 draft but staying healthy is major problem with him.

Yes, but we could develop a WR that could be a franchise player instead of continueing the elder veteran cycle (Mason to Boldin, Boldin to Steve, Steve to Marshall/Fitz). We need to fix the real problem, the leaky faucet, by calling in a plumber instead of trying to continuous duct tape it.

I'm sure the ravens would love to do that with a top 10 WR talent but they never get a chance to because they play so well in the season that they always pick later in the first round of the draft.

Also, they did try developing a young early drafted WR. His name was Torrey Smith who in all honesty turned out to be a B- reciever. I'm not opposed to renewing a short 1 year contract for him to prove himself, but I'm still for seeking a vet WR

People are mentioning Dez Bryant a whole lot. Does anyone know the cap implications with that?

More than we can afford.

Dallas isn't letting him leave anyways.

Rashean Mathis can still play though he graded out as on of the top CBs per PFF and he was a part of one of the best secondaries on the league he really impressed this season.

And Yea I'd like Cecil Shorts as a potential Torrey Smith replacement should Torrey sign elsewhere.

Vinci really likes Wennings preseason play. Maybe Wenning for Sanu straight up. Sanu is an upper muddle class mans Dez Bryant. His talent is underappreciated and a best kept secret due to awful QB play. He is strong and attacks the football. He blocks with power and is a good fluid route runner. He is pretty much a faster more athletic Boldin. Cinci may go for it with Marvin Jones returning. Fans in Cinci are down on Sanu and not realizing its their QB. But The dude is awesome! He and Joe Cool would become one of best Combos in the NFL. 1200 yards and 12 TDs is very reasonable catching passes from Flacco in the Raven offense.

If they liked his play they could've signed him off our practice squad, which is where he was the whole year.

Actually I believe you can protect a couple rookies on the PS. I was thinking same thing when I heard they were impressed. But I think Wenning is protected for a year.

Wes Welker does not sound enthusiastic about resigning with the Broncos.

http://www.touchdownactu.com/111027/broncos-wes-welker-ne-sait-pas-sil-veut-revenir/

He had a down year, but that might make him more affordable.

I would love to see Torrey play his entire Football career(College and Pro) in Maryland, but if he wants too much money he's gone. Forsett meanwhile, it seems he wants the money.

Well Torrey could potentially get paid and stay in MD. The Redskins do play in Landover after all.

They're picking up now. At least we'll have them to merge into when new threads pop up.

I like Jabaal Sheards as potential Pernell Mcphee replacement

Why? Cost about the same and Mcphee is more versatile Browns have $55 million in cap space anyway..

Thurmond and Cecil Shorts would fit in nicely. How magnificent it would be if we could somehow make a run for someone like Demaryius Thomas.

Double up. Sign him to a low risk contract and draft a guy high. Don't resign Torrey. That way, with rookie, shorts, Camp, Brown, and Aiken, we can begin to phase out Jacoby til when we cut him and prepare for Steve's retirement.

Considering Torrey was drafted in the late second, being a B wr is fine for him. But we need better than that, with Steve and Jacoby growing old.

Mathis will also be 35. No thanks. He's has been and is a great player, but 35 is just too old. I'd rather have Shorts than Torrey.

I don't really like the idea of signing a injury prone receiver then draft a rookie receiver that may or may not work out . You not only banking on  a injury prone receiver but soon to be a 36 year old receiver, two receivers whom both have trouble saying healthy in Brown and Camp, and then theres Aikens. If The Ravens can re-sign Torrey Smith at a reasonable deal then I would take him over Cecil Shorts any time of the day .

if you want reliability, bringing back Torrey isn't a great idea. He catches less than 50% of the balls thrown at him.

Torrey was targeted 93 times this year and caught 49 of his passes . 49/93= 53%. He had 11 pass interference worth 200 yards as well.

PI don't count as thrown balls, but penalties. Torrey hasn't shown much improvement in his game since his second year, so I warn he pretty much is who he is at this point. Their likely isn't going to be any more development.

To put that into some perspective, that would be last among the top 33 qualified QBs in completion percentage. Lowest one was Drew Stanton at 55%. Not a very reliable number.
