Free Agency Targets

1,773 posts in this topic

Boy, would I love none other than to see Cory Redding back in our locker room, the fire and passion he could bring to this defense!  I'm still ticked off we let him go~ lol.

I get the sentiment, but I'd rather see us work to retain McPhee than to bring Redding or anyone else in.

I believe any FAs we target are going to be mid-level at best and will likely be in the secondary. I haven't checked the numbers yet, but I have to feel like we're going to be up against the cap as usual and, outside of Ngata, we have virtually no way of freeing space.

I don't want any more elder statesmen WRs. I want some talented young guys for once. Plus, Fitzy would be extremely expensive.

I agree, but if there's one guy I'd take it would be Fitz: he's young enough to stick around for 3-4 years, IF that's the direction the FO chooses to go in.

Agree ... but really only one way to get them - draft. There aren't going to be any talented young FAs floating around and if there were, we'd never be able to afford them.

WR - we still need a go to receiver that can bail out the offense on 3rd and long with his size and leaping ability. Don't see that guy in those available and we'll never pay the price for the best of them. Would consider Kenny Britt.

S  - probably best to address in the draft, Will Hill and Stewart weren't all bad and with a little cornerback help would have been better.

CB  - Asa Jackson hopefully will come back 100% with his potential still intact. We need to draft another.

Lucky for us, this is an amazing WR draft.

You know who would be good and under the radar is Denarius moore.  Not a big stats guy but he played in Oakland runs good deep routes and can return.  He could sort of fill a little of what Torrey and Jacoby do.  Not a big addition but could come at a good market.

Yes, but we could develop a WR that could be a franchise player instead of continueing the elder veteran cycle (Mason to Boldin, Boldin to Steve, Steve to Marshall/Fitz). We need to fix the real problem, the leaky faucet, by calling in a plumber instead of trying to continuous duct tape it.

From what I understand Rice, Pitta, Webb, and Flacco are going to be some of the heavy hitters against the cap.

NFL teams were informed at an NFL meeting on December 9 that the 2015 salary cap is preliminarily projected to be between $138.6 million and $141.8 million

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24913408/agents-take-the-five-teams-with-the-worst-salary-cap-situations

According to Over the Cap, the Ravens current cap number is : $136,704,517

http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/baltimore-ravens/

It's really weird that Flacco is schedule to have a base salary less than half of Ngata's, but I digress.

Edit (in English!):

Over the Cap seem to claim that the Ravens have $9,081,110 available in cap space.

Thats good bad for 9th least in the league.

So I guess they could sign another Steve Smith and then have enough left for another Darryl Smith... or something.

If Pitta decides he is done or doesn't wanna risk re-injury, I'd like to see them go after Jordan Cameron. When used right, he's a monster at TE but has been a victim of bad Browns QB's

I'd really like Jordan Cameron too! he'd be a beast in Kubiaks system! But I bet a lot of teams will be gunning for him and he'll probably come with a good price....

Sure need a new head coach.  A head coach that can get into the game instead of playing poker with the Refs all game long.

Players.. We need a stud at T/E.. Pittas done,  Daniels isn't the answer. A haus in the Back Field.

Torrey is probably gone, so upgrade at W/R.  We need a 7 ft wide out. That way on 3rd down with 1 yard or less or 1st and goal at the 2 or less we can play lob throw..

Sorry fans just thinking out of the box. We do need help all over the team. First trade is Harbs to Michigan with his brother as SP teams coach. I just can't stand that guy.  We lost so many great coaches because of the Ravens system not because of John Harbaugh. Sorry, Truth hurts fans.

Jordan Cameron has concussion issues which is probably going to scare some teams away or atleast force him to accept less money.

Goodbye haloti

Is this why my game tickets go up each year?  If Mr. Cass reads this, I would love to see my boys at Camp next year. I entered fairly the past few seasons, but found out many tickets go out to charity's and local school boosters. I am an paying fan since the Ravens became the Ravens. I sat with Ozzie and Ernest Byner at 6am at McDaniels college 14 years ago before we won the SB and the ORG. needed rope. Cap is what it is. Dump some waste and drug users.  Let's see. Ray Rice does this crime and Ngata does that crime but one player is still playing?  Rules and Laws are the root of all evil. Impose them to the max when dealing with money.  Heck Teresa Guidice showed up at prison and received 2 months off of her 15 month term because she was 10 minutes early.  Not right that's all.

Ngata, Canty, and Koch would all represent about $12 million in savings, but there's a good amount of risk involved

I'd cut Canty in a second, but not Ngata. Ngata is too good and is too versatile to cut him, especially since our defensive line is so young. We still need one vet in there. I think Canty told the Baltimore Sun he's considering retirement. Not that I don't like him, but it would be helpful for us if we didn't have him.

I'm torn on Koch. He can be a legitimate weapon in some games, but his salary might be a bit much for an old punter. I recognize and respect the value of punters, but we might not have an option but to either extend him or cut him.

I think if KLM and Urban can stay healthy, they can help fill a role that Canty had. Plus, Jernigan is likely capable of playing outside. I'm not too worried about Canty being gone.

I'm with you on Ngata. There was a huge resurgence in how he played this year and the way he played in the playoffs was really great, something I hadn't seen form Ngata on a consistent while in a long time. This year was truly the right year to play well. I just hope they can figure out something with his contract. I don't want to re-sign him long term due to injuries and, at times, a perceived lack of effort. Just very sticky.

Koch is another one who picked up his play a good amount this year. I thought he was very mediocre last year, but this year, he was really great and presented a true weapon for the team. It's just hard to expect rookie punters, usually, to come in and be able to get how to kick for field position immediately. I really don't know what to do with him because it's almost ridiculous to pay a punter what he's making, especially one that isn't the best in the league.

Torrey wants to stay apparently but anything over 3.5mil would leave Torrey laughing to the bank,

main concern right now would be to evaluate whom we want to retain whom are scheduled to become UFA's , then scour the FA market for secondary help ( sorely needed) followed by O/D-Line/WR help ..although im liking Aiken and Campanaro . more and more....Pitta hopefully will be 100 percent and no setbacks and will actually be a force. so theres that too.

we'll see.

Ngata isnt worth 8.5 million, period.. Webb will restructure..They will have after those adjustments plenty of cap Room. Ravens defense was better statistically and visually with Jernigan playing over Ngata. Williams is better than Ngata now anyway. In the new NFL it is pointless to start TWO 330lb run stuffers. Ngata is living on past accolades. He is a luxury ítem now, not a 8.5 million cap eating monster.

Out of curiosity, if Canty retired instead of us cutting him, is there any major difference in how much we save? Same with Pitta, if he retired from injury how much would we save?

No difference with Canty.  Same whether he's cut or retires.

Pitta is complicated, because there are claims to bonuses and salary forfeiture and things like that.  I don't think we'll have to worry about that though.  Even if he can't play, you'd assume he'd stick on IR/PUP all year.  It'd earn him his full base salary and give us some cap help.  It's a win-win for both.

Don't forget 6 mil rollover. So if over the cap is right we have 15 mil of space. Ngata won't be back at that price so we will get some more savings there depending on if he is restructured and extended or cut.

So we should be ok to fill up most of our holes before the draft like normally.

Just hope we can get McPhee. Would love justin tucker and Jimmy Smith extensions as well to lock them up. Yanda could also be extended lowering his cap. Make him a lifer.

That cap space will go quickly though.  We only have 41 guys on the roster right now.  Once you add in our ERFA tenders and RFA tenders/extension to Tucker and Hill, you're looking at nearly $8M of that gone already.  Still need to save room for re-signings, rookie pool, and all that jazz as well.

Would like us to manage to keep Forsett, McPhee. Would like to keep Torrey for the right price but he is not even worth #2 money right now.

Smith Sr says he's coming back so that's good.

Need to restructure Ngata, too high a cap hit.

The cap figure already includes the rollover and ERFAs and rule of 51. The have at least 9.5 million or so to work with before cuts or restructures.
