Free Agency Targets

1,773 posts in this topic

We should try to get younger. That said cb- cary williams, jonathan joseph, or leon hall would be my picks.  Also get a free safety somehow.  We should fix all our holes through free agency and then get the best player available.

We will be unlikely to address many of our needs in FA... we simply don't and probably won't have the cap space to do so.

I'm trying to figure out where the Brandon Marshall talk is coming from. Didn't he just sign a 3 year 30m deal .. so it has 2 years left on it? Have the Bears hinted at cutting him and eating that cap space?

Some have suggested that. They would save just under $4M in cap space by cutting him, but mostly due to the fact that Gase is the new OC and he and Marshall never got along in Denver to begin with.

I personally am not buying that he will be cut... I think he stays for one more season.

We should get better, regardless of players' age.

He said regardless of age, not regardless of cost...

I was referencing something else entirely actually.

Id love Marshall but we don't have the cap. But a certain team does

One potential CB option is Jonathan Joseph (HOU).

He is a likely cap casualty due to having a high cap number in addition to the Texans wanting to re-sign Kareem Jackson.

A vet at 30 years old, Joseph could provide good depth/competition and an experienced presence in the future with Webb likely gone in 2016.

I'll pass.  I don't know if it was the money, but he turned into a total loose cannon and a hot head after joining the Eagles.  He publically threw Chip Kelley under the bus and has made many dumb comments to the media.  Leave him in Philly!!

That's an interesting consideration. He's been a thorn in the Ravens side for years.

Didn't know where to ask this question. But I know Rashaan Melvin was signed to a one year contract is he a RFA or is he unrestricted?

ERFA. Will almost certainly be retained.

I've been wondering the same. I feel like a lot of this is just fan-manufactured speculation and nothing more. I can't see Marshall gone this year, but I never saw the Dumervil fiasco so who knows.

I thought of this one as well. I could also see other guys as well, but I think Joseph is the most likely cut. I think Carr would also be a decent addition here. He could also be cut from Dallas, although I'm not sure what that would leave them.

Ok, that makes sense now. However, when Gase and Marshall were in Denver together Marshall hadn't dealt w/ his mental health issues yet. He seems on the surface to be a much improved person ...

I agree that I don't think he will be cut and he will be there for another season. Its wishful thinking that he could become a Raven this offseason.

I see all of these names being thrown around like its a fantasy football draft. We DONT have the cap space to get top tier players in Purple!!! Period

A lot of the names being thrown around are not that out of the realm of possibility. Many people have brought up a guy like Housler as a young tight end in a bad system who has a lot of potential and is totally affordable. Also guys like Kenny Britt and Cecil Shorts that really are affordable. To me, it comes down to the front office's plans and whether they see the same potential, which obviously they would know more about. Also, even a guy like Julius Thomas is not out of the question. I don't know if you follow Jamison Hensely, the reporter on ESPN but he said that what he thinks will be the biggest offseason surprise is that the team will go after a big time wide receiver like Demaryius Thomas (who admittedly will probably not reach the market anyways). But it's really not impossible to see some of these names in purple next season and if nothing else it is just fun to speculate and dream about certain players and scenarios playing out, which is what this thread is all about.

I really like Perrish Cox and Davon House as FA CB options for the team. Sterling Moore is another guy I like quite a bit as well. Tillman and T. Williams would be great, but I'm not sure about them. They're older but they would be awesome additions; I'm just not sure we have the cash to throw around.

I like Perrish as well, I'm just thinking that maybe he wants to get paid and become a starter, I don't know how realistic he is for us.

I think it's possible, but I don't know why we can't have a shot at him. I think he could be an option, it is just a question of price. What he wants and what he gets are different, and I'm not sure where his value is in FA, honestly.

I think it depends on his competition. This CB class isn't all that great and if some of those guys don't hit the market, there's a chance Cox can become the top guy.

Yeah, from the cost point of view it looks weird but I'm happy, considering a healthy cap.

We'll see how this turns out.

Any ideas where Cameron Jordan will fall in the yearly cap hit zone? Read today he does not want to return to Cleveland on any circumstance. He had a down year and has a slight concussion history. Wondered if that would drive his price down enough for our range.

Just about to post this. Considering our injury issues with the secondary, the last thing I want to do is sign a guy who is coming off an injury or is injury prone. Cameron has had three concussions in the past two years, that to me would be a concern signing him to any kind of contract.

Plus we don't know where Pitta stands who also has been injury prone the past two years. If Pitta did call it a career I wouldn't want to replace one TE who has had a broken hip twice with a TE who has had two concussions in the same time frame.

I don't know if as a GM I could pass up that talent if we got a bargain on him. Just make damn sure we have a #3 TE that can actually catch a pass if necessary behind Gilmore. Give him a Wes Welker Gazoo helmet and let's roll haha.

I think OZ knew what they were doing when they let him go, that money just really made his head too big. Honestly Leon Hall or Joseph from the Texans would be a decent stop gap option to pair with Jimmy until our future drafted CB can catch up would be the best case option if Webb doesnt makes the cut.
