Steve Bisciotti's Haloti Comments Constitute Tampering?

Sounds like the problem was broadcasting the comments on Twitter. What kind of training do our social media guys get? They seem pretty hopeless.

Social media coordinators are driven by audience interaction. They want to bring followers exciting stuff. While journalists are the ones who (wrongly) get criticized for wanting "clicks," it is literally a social media coordinator's job to get clicks and get traffic. However, it is not necessarily part of their job to know the rules and nuances of the NFL. Harbs and Ozzie might not've been around to say why this is a problem.

But, they probably know this going forward.

I think Jamison Hensley tweeted that the Lions consider this a "non-story"

Good news, thanks.

They should have a working knowledge of what they're liable for. In the media industry, everyone involved needs a working knowledge of the law so they all get a course in what they need to know - if I let a defamatory comment slip past then at least two companies are liable (as well as the person making the comment) and I can lose my job.

It's the same kind of thing here: the social media guys are speaking on behalf of the Ravens, so if they don't know what they're liable for they either suck at their job or the organisation needs to do a better job of giving them a working knowledge of what can lead to having picks removed.

Aaron Wilson just confirmed that Lions don't care about this. Sweet.

That's good to hear. Gotta move on and hope all involved learn from the experience.

To be frank, they'd be dumb not to (or quite generous if you're an optimist). Any competitive edge you can get within the rules is an edge you should take advantage of.

Lol.......spoken like a true pats fan!

Just yankin' your chain.

@RavensInsider: Lions: 'The Ravens have reached out to us concerning the comments made yesterday by Steve Bisciotti regarding Haloti Ngata.'

@RavensInsider: Lions: 'We consider the matter to be a non-issue.'

@RavensInsider: Lions: 'We appreciate both the Ravens’ professionalism and the context in which Mr. Bisciotti’s statements were made.'

Professionalism?  What is this nonsense they speak of?

Good to hear the Lions aren't petty crybabies like the Patriots and Jets.

Also, please get rid of the idiot who runs the team Twitter. Lord knows this is not the first time they've screwed up a tweet. The tweet is literally the only reason it might've been an issue.

Good to hear, probably shouldn't have said it but at the same time it isn't that big a deal either. The Pats and Jets react to this stuff though so maybe don't talk about them.

Lions took the high road because they understand what Steve Bisciotti stands for. However sleazy Kraft had to go after Woody Johnson and Johnson had no choice but to hit back. This Patriots owner is amongst the sleaziest guys in football ownership today. Soon he will get into such a big mess, given his propensity for rule bending, cheating and downright sleazy dealings, I think he will be compelled to sell the team to some decent group. People like that end up in a bad place.

If this were a Patriots vs Jets situation they both would have filed against each other before putting down the phone.

edit - That already happened. Nevermind. Agreed. This is a non-issue.

Yeah this is all in the limelight because of Woody Johnsons stupidity followed up by a petty claim against the Pats. I doubt the Lions and Ravens share that kind of animosity.

Good that the Lions have some common sense and classy gesture.  Not sure in the fan base and media, but owners, GMs, coaches and FOs around the league know what kind of person Steve would represent.  He has highly regards and respect that we probably didn't know.  We got the label of HC manufacture for no reasons....

After all, it's all non issue........Deflate gate is buried or something?

I'm glad the Lions brushed it under the rug. Steve needs to be smarter with his comments. They definitely constituted as tampering. He dodged a bullet here.

Ngata better come back one day and retire a Raven.... Don't know if that's what Steve meant, or was just trying to say that, but I wouldn't be surprised if 2015 is Haloti's last season.

While I agree for the most part (and certainly agree that the comments themselves look to fall cleanly within the definition of tampering), I think the big problem was that whatever mug we have running the Twitter account publicised the comments without knowing how that put us on the hook. Our social media person either needs better training or we need a new social media person.

But yeah, I agree we dodged a bullet. I like how Steve can be pretty candid (I'm a bit cynical of the "upright, blue collar" narrative he sells about himself, but I don't think he's any worse than any of the other 31 owners), but sometimes less is more.

Yeah, I certainly appreciate his candor, but sometimes you gotta keep the mouth shut. I love Steve for many reasons, some not even related to football (you can ask me in a PM, but it's not something I will make public) and I really like his attitude. I do think he's a little more blue collar than most owners, but the guy is rich. He's not like everyone, lol.

I do think whoever runs our Twitter needs to and is probably already gone.

Definitely agree.  I think the saving grace in this situation - and what differentiates it from Woody Johnson's comments about Revis - is that Bisciotti's statement, while "public" was said in a private setting with PSL holders (and part of an answer to a question from a fan) and wasn't really intended to be public comments (although, it seems that too many media were also on the conference call).

I think the Lions realized this and that likely lessened any concerns on their part.

That said, I also agree that Bisciotti should be more careful in the future.
