Free up space and sabotage the broncos all at the same time? Not bad ozzie, not bad.

lol! That's a bit harsh for someone who was a Raven for 3 yrs!

Good trade. Getting an upgraded pick and cap space for a guy I didn't think we could give away for free. I'll take it

Trying to understand why - Gino was expensive but still a decent backup.  I only hope this means they wanted more cap space to get something done with a current FA or with signing our own 2016 FAs over the summer.

I would have been happy just to see him cut, especially at his salary.  The fact that we got anything is a win in my book.  His time here was over.

Definitely a good trade to upgrade a mid-round pick for a player who was likely to be cut.

Cap savings by trade is $1.542M, but net savings on Cap is just over $1M because the operation of the Rule of 51.  Gino's replacement amongst the top 51 is making $510K.

This doesn't matter ^.  Whenever we sign a player worth more than 500k, then the 500k gets dropped again.

Mentioning the 51 rule is negligible until we sign all our draft picks, and even then cutting a a player with the expectation of adding a new one makes the numbers arbitrary.

A 4th for Gino but a 6th for Q.

Strange, but I like what we got for Gino.

Agree, love the way Oz does his thing. But IIRC, we got a 6th for Q but didn't give up any picks. Still a great trade, but we're giving up a 5th along with Gino for that 4th.

Delighted with this trade.... Ozzie made up for drafting a 4th round bust, by getting a 4th round pick for him.

Somehow

I don't think it's fair to call him a bust. He at least started for us. Granted he never became the player I'm sure we hoped he'd become but he still has some potential. Nobody talks about Christian Thompson, a safety we drafted that year also in the fourth round. Now he was a bust.

Happy we got something for him, wish him well in Denver(although not too well if we end up playing eachother)

I'm sorry guys but 4th Rounders do not Bust! They are a gamble of players with "potential" not skill

I don't disagree. I'm just saying that it's hard to call Gino a bust and ignore someone like Thompson. That's my point.

Yeah but he had no business starting.. He's a 4th round pick so it's obviously not as sever, but how else do you describe his stint here?

Had the luxury of sitting behind a great vet his rookie year

Weakest link in the disaster 2013

Was beat out by Zuttah who was only around average

Yeah, comparing him to Thompson makes him look better lol... I wish him the best but his potential doesn't mean anything to me anymore. When I think back on him, I'll remember his stint here as a disappointing failure.... Just didn't work out.

He is beyond bust, just thinking back and remembering 2013 where fans got to witness the nightmare for full season of that lard....there were so many games where he screwed up jumping offsides, heaving the ball and fumbling te ball, stepping on joe or rays foot, getting dominated by back up DT. He costed us ton of games. He was plain garbage.

Its a good thing Kubiak wasnt on our 2013 coaching tree, bc i know jim wouldnt have brang gino even if we gave THEM a 4th rounder.

This was a move Oz capitalized where broncos needed to make a dire move to replace several injured olines and elway is doing random patchworks.

Really good trade for both parties--I really do hope this means we put the extra dollars to get Housler. I really hate the feeling of being pushed into need at TE in this draft class with all the talent in the mid round talent elsewhere

A 4th for Gino but a 6th for Q.

I think it was the salary disparity - nobody wanted to trade for Q because every team out there knew there was like a 90 percent chance he was getting cut.  The 49ers just happened to have the cap space to swallow and were willing to throw us a bone just to make sure they had him.  Gino is coming relatively cheap, so the Broncos were probably more inclined to give up the more valuable pick for him.  Also, Kubiak probably has more plans for Gino than we realize - it would not surprise me at all to see him start on that line at some point this season.  If that happens, than the trade would be worth it to them.

This thread is funny. Check it out, guys.

They said that Gino failed as a center in a power-man scheme.

My favorite:

"Don't sweat it Brah. All they did was trade the last pick in the 4th round in '16 for whatever the Ravens pick in the the 5th round in '16 is. Could be one spot!

#elwaydoesitagain"

With Gradkowski's cap hit, this should be a terrible trade for them.

Well, they're not entirely wrong. Caldwell tried many things that year, and the power man scheme was one of them. We used it for two games and then we threw it away because it was worse than ZBS.

Yeah, but we mostly ran a ZBS that year, much more than the power scheme. That wasn't even the first year we installed the ZBS, since we ran those packages before Castillo came here and many thought the OL took a step back because of the ZBS, when that's simply not true. There was a lot wrong with the 2013 OL, too much to blame any one person. But Gino was a big part of the problem on that OL, though certainly not the only problem (ahem, T-Rex).

The best part of this is that I get to root even more for the Broncos to crash and burn next year.  If we're bad and they're good, they will only move down a couple of draft picks...if that is switched and we do better than them in 2015, we've made out like bandits in this trade.

I'm thoroughly amused right now because I haven't been paying much attention to the Broncos since this, but now that I look BOY DOES THEIR O-LINE SUCK.

Peyton might want to reconsider his retirement.  He could be a cripple by the end of next season, especially if Kubes is going to try to have him roll out.

lol..now imagine if Gino ends up being a Pro Bowl center :P

..its happened before :/

In that case, he becomes too expensive and we can't hold on to him anyway. :P

I'm fine with Zuttah for now and Urschel looks promising.
