Gino Gradkowski traded for a 2016 pick

What, no post announcing this block buster trade?

Honestly, I thought he was gonna be released out right.  Smart for Ozzie to get a pick for it and free up $1.5M in the process.

There's discussion on this in the signings thread. Makes sense, I guess, to start one on it, though. I'd like to know what we'll get and what conditions there are, if any.

Just freed up cap space to sign Housler?

Free up space and sabotage the broncos all at the same time? Not bad ozzie, not bad.

Gino knows Kubiak's system and has no real spot on our roster. Good deal all around, assuming he passes his physical.

once again, ozzie just getting something for nothing. its probably a 7th next year, but it still frees up cap space after making what i thought was a brilliant move for a backup qb who can handle the load if joe were to ever go down.

he was gonna be cut, we get a pick for him instead. im surprised ozzie was able to find a trade suitor, im guessing kubiak was heavily involved. still, good move, nothing huge by any means, but this way if we have a UDFA we covet, we can lock him up without risking him going to another team. something is better than nothing and little moves like these is practically what the ravens are built on.

Definitely more than a 7th. Otherwise we traded a player and pick for an equal to worse pick. Likely traded Gino and a 7th for a 5th or 6th.

It's officially a 2016 5th, and Gino, for Denver's 2016 4th. Good trade.

Solid trade. Can't really complain. Upgraded a fifth to a fourth and dumped $1.5M off the cap. About as good as you can do with a backup center.

Definitely a good trade to upgrade a mid-round pick for a player who was likely to be cut.

Cap savings by trade is $1.542M, but net savings on Cap is just over $1M because the operation of the Rule of 51.  Gino's replacement amongst the top 51 is making $510K.

I'm surprised Kubiak would bite on that, he knows we had to trade for Zutah last year because of Gino. Great move, gets 1.5 off the books for a player that probably wouldn't be here anyway!!!

So I took a look at the NFL draft pick value chart to get a gauge for how much value we got. Obviously these are 2016 picks ,so we don't know where we'll finish, but if we use this year's draft position, I think we got a good deal.

So, if we still had our original fifth round pick, we'd be picking around 162, which is worth about 26.6 points. Denver's original fourth this year would be worth at 126, and it would be worth about 46 points. So Gino is worth about 20 points, about a mid-round sixth. Although we got Gino for a fourth, he's not worth that now, and equating his value with a sixth is fair.

Basically, we got a fourth rounder and cap room for what amounts to a late fifth and a mid round sixth. Good deal for both sides.

actually this is a very good trade. we pick up1.5mm on the cap and move up a round in this years draft. if we would have released him we wouldn't have received cap relief. they don't call the guy a wizard for nothing.
