does anyone even know how much is guaranteed?

3 mil means nothing if their aint no guaranteed money since he can be cut with out a hit at any point.

I expect something along the lines of $2M base salary + $1M in incentives based on games/snaps played which would be not likely to be earned and not count against this years cap.

Yeah, also just helping wide receivers know what a QB wants.  It really helps players to be around other quality players.

That's very true. However they could have got him for a $mil. Schaub was likely not going to get signed unless somebody is injured. I like Wenning so don't get the wrong point. Last yr was incredibly deep for QBs and in my opinion will produce at least 3 franchise QBs. It was deepest draft ever for QBs. If ravens aren't confident in Wenning going into year2 then they should have drafted a QB in the place of Taliaferro or Urban who won't amount to anything more than back ups. There were some solid options at QB like Mettenberger,Murray,Savage that could become franchise QBs or at least effective QBs in the right system. Drafting a successful QB pays for itself as a team pays far better draft picks than used to draft theQB. If Mettenberger doesn't get injured consistently he is a pro bowl QB that would bring the ravens some really nice picks. Also watch Tom Savage as he could be a franchise QB with some work. Murray could be prolific if surrounded by talent. I dunno how anybody could call last yrs QB class mediocre just cuz it didn't have Andrew Luck. I like Bridgewater better than Winston.

Some of you don't understand how down right pathetic this guy has been the past couple years. Wouldn't have minded if it was for vet minimum but for 3 mill? Like stated above, Wenning costs way less, has a better arm and we would probably see the same win loss ratio with Schaub or Wenning in the game.

Another brilliant move by Ozzie. $3mil more on a useless player. He has been terrible and benched by everybody who signed this scrub thinking he had some good play. His arm is the weakest. Is this what they meant by proactive in free agency?? I would bet $$ that Wenning outplays him in preseason!! Wasted $$ like this is why the team could not sign anybody in free agency to help this team!! Yeah Ozzie really had something up his sleeve. If they don't bank this draft the Superbowl is very unlikely. I actually thought they would sign a player or 2 that would actually help the team. But Ozzie's at it again. More useless cap $$ If this team struggles Biscotti is going to lose more of his patience. The great Ozzie can't find anything better to do with cap $$. Can't wait to see this loser play in preseason and get beat out by Wenning. Then everybody will see it is another terrible decision!!

I would say not to question the Great OZ, but a 1yr $3m deal sounds like a bad signing. Granted, for all I know only around $0.01 is guaranteed, but I suspect that isn't the case.

Aaron Wilson orignally reported 2 years, ~$4M annually but has cited sources saying 1 year, $3M.

VERY expensive. Feels bad, bro.

Why do this unless they have no confidence in Wenning to even give our developmental WRs a fair look? I was expecting ~$1M, close to the vet minimum.

Not mad at the move at all, but if we did spend 3m of our cap on him I'm a little surprised.

I'm not exactly sure what that means lol

since schaub is an 11 year pro according to that rule if the ravens will use it on him he will only count 970K against the cap.

that is if there isent a bonus worth more then 65K in his contract.

so its pretty early for people to make assumptions without knowing the contract details , especially how much is guaranteed.

970K cap hit is nothing for a QB with as much experience as schaub.

Seems like thats only if he signed for 970k. He signed for 3 mil.

he can sign for whatever price as long as the guaranteed part is less then 65K and its a 1 year deal and he is a veteran lol

at least thats what i make of it.

that 970K will be his cap number and the minimum schaub will make.

max ofcourse will be the 3 mil but it wont count that much against the cap.

so its a 3 mil 1 year deal with a 970K cap hit and  970K minimum earning.

The funny thing about insurance is that your policy is supposed to pay out if you get injured.

Signing Schaub, we're still completely screwed if (god forbid) Joe goes down during the season.  If he's anywhere near a $3 mil cap hit, this was an incredibly stupid move.

What I'm thinking it means is that he has to sign for the vet minimum with no signing bonus and then they can count him as being a 2 yr player for 585k but I'm also not sure lol. I've never heard of it. Be nice to see all the details.

I think you have to assume that they have no confidence in Wenning in any capacity.

I felt like it was a good move in that Schaub would give us a much better shot than Wenning at keeping us afloat if we Joe went down for a few games. But I said all of that before I saw the price tag. For a team that needs all available $$ to sign some significant needs for starting players, 3M for a backup seems pretty pricey.

3M for Schaub does sound pricey, although QBs - even backups - are usually very expensive. I'll wait to see all the details but if he does indeed carry a 3M cap hit I don't think this is a good move.

i think only the years of experience and it being a 1 year deal is what counts to qualifiy.

but you might be right.

I'm a little iffy on the cap hit, but I'll gladly take you up on that bet.

I'm with you but from what I've seen Schaub doesn't have a whole lot left in the tank. Maybe a few games if something happens (knock on wood) but, man, that's a lot of money.

Yeah, might do enough to not lose a few games, but I wouldn't expect anything too grand.

Could do a lot worse at backup QB, but like you say $3 million's a lot for what he'd likely return.

I'm not sure about Schaub having an issue with what is left in the tank. His issue seems to be what he has between his ears. I don't think that he's physically spent, but his confidence got shot all to hell over the past couple years. Partly a product of being on bad teams, maybe being asked to do too much. Perhaps we think that we can work with him and get his mind right.

That's all well and good and I do think that going forward with Wenning would be a scary proposition. But I agree that's a lot of money for a shaky insurance policy.
