Better be for vet minimum or close to it.

If it is I feel great.  I think he's a really good back up in our system.

I guess, with his experience with the Texans, Schaub can help Joe to become even more familiar with Kubiak's system. I don't expect much from him on the field, though. If Joe goes down, I'll start looking up next years draft class immediately. Game over, man! Game over!

Hopefully this helps our 2nd and 3rd string WR's develop.I imagine it must've been hard for them to get anything out of training camp and practices over the past few years when all Tyrod could/would do is tuck the ball and run.

How much?

I like it so far.

If I know Ozzie we got a heck of a deal.

According to Aaron Wilson of Ravens Insider it's a two year deal averaging roughly 2 million a year.

Agreed. I posted yesterday that I wasnt in love with the idea of signing Schaub, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. As long as he didn't get more than 1 or 2M. He could really help this offense in the meeting rooms and TC. I think it's safe to say he mastered Kubiac's offense, so it should be beneficial for us.

I agree whole heartedly with the first part - he WILL help Joe, Trestman and the offense acclimate to the offense.  As a plyer who spent seven years in it only Joh Elway and maybe Kyle Shanahan know it better.

The second part couldn;t DISAGREE with more.  Schaub had a disasterous 2013 largely because he played on a injured ankle on his planting foot.  He had a terrible OL that was more turnstyle than wall and the team was frasgmented by Wade Phillips' undermining Kubiak.  No one should fault him for not trying too hard in Oakland.  That place is crazier than Bellvue and I'm sure he did what he could to not commit there long term.

This is a great signing.  Schaub is 33 and is the ONLY QB on the market that can start a game.

He started as a top back-up and will likely end up that way.  I couldn;t be happoer with the deal.

1 yr 3 mil

I wonder if there's an option for next year that helps spread the cap hit, causing Aaron Wilson to report the 2-yr deal.

I hope so. A $3 mil cap hit for someone that history suggests will never see a single meaningful snap seems a bit high especially considering the tough pill we had to swallow by trading away Ngata to get this valuable cap space.

$3M is a bit steep for Schaub's services. Especially with the current Cap situation and Flacco's history of durability (Knocks on Wood). I would have rather we let Wenning get the job and draft another QB in the later rounds. If feel its equally likely we win a super bowl whether we have Schaub at QB or Wenning/Rookie QB: Slim to none

He is being brought for his mentoring, professionalism and general vet stuff. God forbid he ever has to play a snap but we could still win with him. I think this is a good signing for what he brings in practice but i dont like the price.

Really good point. Backup quality/experience helps in many ways that we don't usually think of. He'll help us more on Weds than on Sunday.

Yeah, also just helping wide receivers know what a QB wants.  It really helps players to be around other quality players.

We have to realize that improving the 2nd string QB position is not about getting a guy that will allow us to win a Super Bowl if Flacco goes down for the season. It is about giving us a chance to win if we have a stretch where Flacco goes out for a handful of games.

With a guy like Schaub, if Flacco is out for a few games, we can still get a couple wins and not fall out of the division/WC race. If we have Wenning, any game Flacco is out is virtually a guaranteed loss and all it would take is Joe being out for 3 or 4 games and we'll drop out of post-season contention.

Great post and very true this is what its all about an insurance policy so to speak. I would not really want the guy as a franchise QB but he can help out for a small stretch.

Another brilliant move by Ozzie. $3mil more on a useless player. He has been terrible and benched by everybody who signed this scrub thinking he had some good play. His arm is the weakest. Is this what they meant by proactive in free agency?? I would bet $$ that Wenning outplays him in preseason!! Wasted $$ like this is why the team could not sign anybody in free agency to help this team!! Yeah Ozzie really had something up his sleeve. If they don't bank this draft the Superbowl is very unlikely. I actually thought they would sign a player or 2 that would actually help the team. But Ozzie's at it again. More useless cap $$ If this team struggles Biscotti is going to lose more of his patience. The great Ozzie can't find anything better to do with cap $$. Can't wait to see this loser play in preseason and get beat out by Wenning. Then everybody will see it is another terrible decision!!

Schaub has been benched for being terrible the last couple teams he played for. How is he getting us any wins?? Wenning will outplay him just like every other young QB he has competed with of late!! Edited by Pirate88

Rumors are that the deal gives Shaub $3 million this year, if this is true Ozzie's made a terrible signing.
