Flacco was nominated 10 times for Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week (more than any other nominee) and won twice...that has to count for something to the average fan, right????

For the record, I voted 52 times in honor of Ray Lewis. Well, that, and I was shooting for 43 originally in honor of Super Bowl XLIII, but accidentally went over, so I had to think of a new number...lol.

I'm gonna do it again at work on Monday, and pretty much every day this week. And I'm getting my co-workers and family and friends to vote for him too.

Oh, well, they can keep overlooking our players and coaches for the awards as long as we keep getting the WINS!

But I voted!

You do realize that:

Matt Ryan had very similar stats as Joe but didn't play half his games against top 10 defenses.
Joe actually had better stats for the last half of the season
Joe won his playoff game

I STILL AM SHOCKED JOE DID NOT WIN.. It's total BS.. its extremely obvious he is the better of the two at qb.. Ryan just is overrated and gets more publicity.. he should BE A MAN and give his award to the "REAL" future QB of the NFL the FIRST ROOKIE EVER to win 2 playoff games in NFL history!.

Joe did fine but he didnt deserve rookie of the year. The ravens are winning because we have a great D and flacco doesnt screw up too much...you need more production to win rookie of the year, not just winning as a result of being on a good team

Matt Ryan won AP rookie of the year because he deserved it. Also 2nd place would have been Chris Johnson, I love the Ravens as much as the next guy but Flacco did not deserve this award. He had a great year but he wasnt as valuable to our team as Ryan or Johnson, he played great in our system but we didnt ask him to win games for us.

The Ravens best or most warranted complaint has got to be for Ed Reed to have been the defensive MVP, and I believe Sparano should have won Coach of the Year and not Smith. I love the Ravens but I try to be unbiased when looking at things like this and since all of these awards came out before the playoffs began I think only Reed got the short end of the stick.

I'm sounding like a broken record but Ryan had almost identical stats for the entire season (and worse for the last half) and he didn't play half his games against top 10 defenses. Why does he deserve it just because the Falcons imploded after Vick was a knucklehead?

I'll buy the argument that neither deserved it, but Ryan being better is bunk.

Stats dont tell the story and it has nothing to do with Vick. The Falcons stunk, no one will argue that, they draft Matt Ryan and get Turner in FA. Now they are better, but this is because Matt Ryan stepped up and was as large of a threat to opposing D's as Turner was. Also he was given the ball numerous times to either run out the clock or put a drive at the end of the game together.

Joe Flacco 257 428 2971 60.0 6.94 70 14 3.3 12 2.8 32 276 80.3
Matt Ryan 265 434 3440 61.1 7.93 70 16 3.7 11 2.5 17 104 87.7

This isnt even close, Ryan threw for 500 more yards, 2 more TD's, 1 less INT, was sacked 15 times less, and had a rating for the entire season 7 points higher. The Falcons stunk, Ozzie and Harbs really really wanted Matt Ryan at the draft because they saw this potential in him. Flacco is the QB of the Baltimore Ravens, and he was phenomenal as a rookie, but if it were possible for a rookie QB to be put in a situation to succeed this was the ideal situation. HE WAS NOT THE BEST ROOKIE IN THE NFL, both Ryan and Johnson were more important to their respective teams as we probably could have had Troy Smith lead us to the playoffs as long as he didnt turn the ball over Steve Mcnair/Kyle Boller style.

Again Ed Reed got totally abused in the voting, we as fans need to look at these things with an unbiased view or else we will ultimately kill our own credibility as intelligent fans. I love the Ravens but I am unbiased when it comes to awards and other things because the thing I cant stand most is when an UNeducated fan makes an argument about one of the players on THEIR team that is completely bogus, simply because they are blinded by the loyalty they feel to the team. Ed Reed should have been Defensive MOP, Tony Sparano should have been Coach of the Year and Matt Ryan deserved Rookie of the Year. Its that simple.

With half of his games against the against the NFC North, AFC West...

Flacco easily could have put up that many more yards playing against the teams Ryan played against. They played exactly the same type of ball constantly handing off to beast(s) of running backs. Ryan was anointed from day one and paid off.

Strength of schedule
Ravens: T-4
Falcons: T-13 (behind 20 other teams)

I agree and am well aware we played a much tougher schedule, but how do you put that into the numbers? Do you take away 3 of Ryans TD's because they were against worse competition? How do you handicap that or make it a valid point with evidence to support your claim? There is simply no way to do so and at the end of the day when the AP reps sit down and look at the stats and the impact they made to their team over the course of the year, Matt Ryan comes out on top, everytime. They didnt have the same supporting cast, take the QB's away and the Ravens are a much much much more complete team than the Falcons are. They played the same style on offense but Flacco had the added comfort of knowing he didnt need to get a first down because Ray ray and the boys were going out there to get his back. Ryan was given the ball and asked to win games, yes he had Turner but he didnt have much else...

And you have made no mention of Ed Reed at any point in your responses, do you think Flacco deserved ROY more than Reed was deserving of D MOP?

I don't know but it should count for something. I'm just saying the stats are deceptive and possibly useless. If it were just stats they wouldn't vote. They dropped the ball again.

Reed was definitely more screwed over then Flacco, I agree with you 100% so didn't bring it up. The original post was focused on Flacco and then I added the other two after posting, when I realized they were in votes as well. I'd change the heading but that isn't possible.

500 yards works out to 30 yards a game. 2 decent passes a game. Considering they have one good RB vrs. our three decent RBs, we can and do run more, they pass more.
Heap dropped at least 2 easy TDs this year. I'm sure the same could be said for Ryan but that's the thing its just 2 TDs. Flacco has ran that many.
Flacco had 2 thirds of his interceptions in the first half of the year.

Downloaded a neat program called Workspace Macro to record mouse movement and events and play them back over and over... It's been going for awhile on a few of my computers for John Harbaugh!

Go Ravens!
