I think it would be good for the guys to get together and do this as well as inviting Wenning so he could get in some reps. That being said as we all know its really hard to get everyone together with prior comitments and spending time with their family wives and children including brand new family members who need 24 hour care with feedings and changing diapers so it is not just something you do. I would like to see it happen to get the younger TE's and WR's working with Flacco and Wenning but at the same time I dont think it's really necessary.

Have never been a fan of off season work outs with QB's & WR's.  They can't do it at the facility due to rules, so there is no controlled environment for them to work out at. There's no coaches, trainers or medical staff present at these. Where would we be if Joe tore a UCL or rotator cuff or a WR  an acl or achilles. No, there's enough throwing & catching to be done during camp and practices imo.

But the players still have to work out and they can get hurt just by working out alone. Even if Flacco doesn't have a  throwing session with his receivers  I doubt  passing the ball isn't apart of his work out regiment and the same be said about the receivers when it comes to running route/catching passes.

Good post. I am getting so sick and tired of how we need an elite WR. Since the year 2006 the only team to win a super bowl with an elite WR was the colts in 2006 and that w/ Peyton Manning as well. They are cool to have but not necessary for success.

You got that right! I'm 56 and Joe, well, the young man is Joe and that damn good!  You get my vote as Raven of the Day!  :plus-un2:

if the ravens wanted him to do so they would have put it in the contract #simple

if it ain't in the contract...it ain't getting done imo. i would have weight requirements, workouts etc in contracts and only doctors opinions and emergencies as to why things can't get done.

i wouldn't have the tact these owners have...i'd sue players that were sand-bagging it as it affects the team brand and overall revenue generating ability.

The problem last year was, with a new OC, nobody had the playbook, so getting together would have been a colossal waste of time. That didn't stop people from complaining about it well onto the season, though.

This year, if the playbook stays relatively similar, it could be a possibility.

However, considering Joe showed up to play on a Sunday while Dana was in the hospital having baby #2, I have no patience with those who begrudge him spending his off-season with his family.

Actually i do! don't sign up for the freaking nfl...start your own business and be the boss!!! #thatsimple

when you work for someone else you contribute to their dreams/goals. when you work for yourself you can take time to be with your family etc. joe made a decisions....he has to live with that! he has millions, flacco should retire and start some businesses if he needs extra family time.

what happens when the owner meets flaccos family?....kids going to know he don't run nothing! can't pass his QB position down to his family or get them jobs with the ravens. he's a high paid employee. don't work for other people if you want to do your own thing!

Then, should players have the ability to sue if they were underpaid for their production? I think not! I think what may happen at some point is that teams could gain the right to void a contract without penalty if your above point can be proven.

One acronym....  NFLPA

That CBA limited all kinds of contact between the owners, coaches, and players during the offseason.  It was a stupid move.  So they are very limited as to where and who they can have that contact with.  It's ridiculous.

ALSO..  Have any of us seen Joe's contract???  Do you know what is and isn't in it????  Come on Man!

CBA doesent limit anything between players themselfs.

it only limits contact between players and anyone team related.

players are free to work as much as they want with each other during the offseason.

Among themselves...  but they cannot have any contact with the coaches...  and they are limited from facilities unless they are recuperating from injuries.

I don't believe they can put working out on their own in an NFL contract, especially one that entails coordinating with players who you have no control over.

However, there are some things that are never said but expected by the team. This may fall into that category for Joe. I personally believe it helps with Joe showcasing the extent of his arm and seeing which of the receivers can compliment him best. He can also get a head start on understanding how each receiver breaks from his routes, etc to gain some timing and understanding.

So, there is merit to having these sessions, but it is not by any means mandatory to have success this year.

Right you are and thats why when Kubiak came to be our OC last year he had limited time to get the playbook out to the players.

You really believe that?  Those two receivers were double-covered most of the season...  for the exact reason you are speaking of.  The opposing teams knew that these were the "go to guys" last season.

You couldnt read the sarcasm in that post?

I think Flacco's kids will be okay, even if "not the boss" Joe can't set them up with a job on the grounds crew.

Joe doesnt know any of their phone numbers.....

Understanding Joe's personality after all these years, that wouldn't surprise me one wee bit! He is just too laid back to input all phone numbers into his phone!

When you enter a career as an employee and that job grants you an OFFseason, "off" being the important part here - then no, there's nothing wrong with expecting and using that time to do your own thing.

I guess teachers, who know going into the job that school is out in the summer, are lazy bums for vacationing and taking family time in the summer. How dare they?!? They ought to be hosting free educational seminars during that time to contribute to the goals of the school board!!

Likewise, 9-5ers are bums for spending their Saturdays at home. Let the players have their time. As long as they stay in shape and out of trouble, who am I to complain?

I don't see why Flacco can't get together with his receivers for just a week to go over routes and things.

Yes Peyton does it but so does Brady, Brees, Rivers and Rodgers.

Does it really help, who knows but doesn't hurt especially the image of trying to get a heads start on things.

They could easily make is a little off season vacation with a little work in between.

Stop trying to make Joe be Brady, Brees, Rivers and Rodgers.  He's not nor ever will be them!  He's his own man and if he wants to spend time with his receivers during their off time he will.  If he doesn't...he won't.  Let it go!

professors get paid for their research....not their teaching skills! they need to review textbooks over the summer and even write textbooks/books. college professors put in work...it's full time.

now if you talking a grade school teacher...i do not understand how they operate.

what a bunch of nonsense

if Joe needs a week off during the season to spend time with his family he can't do it at will... joe has to ask another grown man for permission to be with his own family!!! steve biscotti doesn't have to ask permission from another grown man to do something...that's all.
