A lot was made of Flacco not having throwing sessions in the past few years with receivers, thereby helping build a rapport with his receiving lot. It was reported that logistics played a big part in not having one last year.

How about this year? Word is that Peyton is already having sessions with his receivers and Daniels building chemistry and timing.

Here is the question really - Is it building chemistry with the receivers that is important or showcasing leadership skills and initiative important with sessions like this? Or do we really make a big mountain out of a molehill? This is something where everybody is going to have an opinion and a point of view, none of which are right or wrong. But, I would love to read what our forum brothers think about it.

Edit: On the poll, one can make multiple choices, but avoid making contradictory ones!

well if you read the game threads from this past season you will notice a lot of complains about joe and the wrs not being on the same page.

if this is a way for them to get a better report then yeah It would be nice.

but to be fair its still really early and we don't even know who are receivers will be for the coming season with the draft ahead and potential cuts and such.

also joe needs sometime as well to enjoy his kids and family so really this should a topic somewhere in june lol

Pointless and wasteful, especially since the ones he really needs to build chemistry with aren't on the roster ...yet.

The problem last year was, with a new OC, nobody had the playbook, so getting together would have been a colossal waste of time. That didn't stop people from complaining about it well onto the season, though.

This year, if the playbook stays relatively similar, it could be a possibility.

However, considering Joe showed up to play on a Sunday while Dana was in the hospital having baby #2, I have no patience with those who begrudge him spending his off-season with his family.

It can't hurt to get that extra bit of chemistry going with the WRs but at the same time it isn't as big a deal as people make it out to be

Not needed at all - most QBs don't do this, and this includes the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.  The only guy I ever heard doing it consistently was Peyton Manning, and it's not a coincidence that he's the guy who is the hardest on his receivers when they run the wrong route.  Besides, IMO:

1) the guy who will be starting across from SSS is not on the roster yet, so nothing done now will help him.

2) Marlon is in his 3rd season, I don't think random lobs through the air in March are going to make him better, especially since he looks like he has better chemistry already with Joe than Torrey ever had

3) Dennis is out until at least the summer.

4) Senior needs rest more than anything at this point - the more you tax his body at his age, the faster he'll break down during the course of the regular season.

The guys this may or may not benefit are the likes of Aiken, Camp, and Crockett, and that's it.

I think Flacco plays well enough when it counts that we can discard the notion that its required he do these things. Ravens just need WR's who fight for footballs. We've all seen how the offense looks when they have that.

i picked everything except for "does nothing" and "only good for PR"

but i should elaborate, i think the chemistry part is very, very overblown. more offseason throwing sessions wouldnt have made torrey run all the way through to the ball and catch it or at least break up the int. all these sessions do is allow for you to get on the same page quicker in training camp, but these guys are professionals, some extra sessions months before training camp wont make a difference in the end result.

it may have a very slim impact on weeks 1 and 2 just because if you can successfully establish eachothers playstyles, such as throwing motion timings, how a player responds to balls thrown in particular areas, how a player responds to different velocitys, etc. then you dont have to worry about that when TC starts and you can hit the ground running, allowing for more reps that could be considered more fruitful rather than reps wasted trying to feel eachother out. this slight extra bit of familiar reps could have a small impact in week 1 or 2 but beyond that those offseason sessions are wildly overblown

lol we're having this debate again?

He didn't do it last year and it didn't seem to matter.

As of now, I'm not sure there's a point in doing it because our WR situation is in serious flux right now.

It's one of those things that only becomes a problem in the vent threads after we lose.

He'll have plenty of time throwing to his receivers in TC & practice. Hopefully to a few good ones that aren't on the roster yet.

"does nothing" and "only good for PR" is the same thing as "Does absolutely nothing " so all three lines
count together. Twelve of us dont care....... ( and counting )

I voted for "only the fans care" and "only good for PR". Happy to be counted as two opinions though. ^_^

Well, we all know Flacco doesn't care at all about the team or his career, and his success is all luck and he is an overpaid glorified 'game manager'.  ;)

he will never succeed without boldin and ray lewis's glorious inspirations. but that darned contract of his made ray lewis retire and made boldin refuse to accept what he was worth.

Well, lets be fair. IF Ray Lewis was around nobody on the team would be in legal/financial/league trouble, because the leadership would be there, because he is an all knowing power :)

Can we blame Joe's contract for the Ebola outbreak too? Or is that more his unwillingness to work out with his WRs in preseason?

absolutely. correct on both fronts.

flaccos contract is the reason chris borland retired.

Flacco's contract is the reason Roger Goodell is the commissioner.

It would be nice to see him hook up with the younger guys like Camp,Aiken,Brown and Gillmore for a few days. Nothing major just some hang time.
