Man Up. Who Got It Wrong This Season?

41 posts in this topic

Joe Flacco - Started off badly, TD and 7int. I wanted Troy Smith and was preparing for the worst.

David Pittman - I thought he would be our future number 2 or even number 1 corner in time. Gone.

Antwan Barnes - I picked him (with Derrick Martin) as our breakout players. Doesnt look like he runs a 4.4.

Jared Gaither - I bashed him for some inconsistency but he has been a monster. 2.5 sacks allowed on the year (39 as a team) He looked like a bulldozer on those driveblocks, inside or outside he was blowing through the Jags o-linemen. On one play he goes through a tackle and LB and drives them 10 yards into the endzone. Pancaked a few guys. I was impressed.'

Mark Clayton - I was calling him a bust, but he is really blowing up.

Chris Chester - So much better than I thought he would be. Has been amazing pulling, fast and can seal off multiple defenders

Jim Leonhard - I thought he was far too small but at times has been our most reliable tackler. Had trouble with Mojo but most people do.

Haruki Nakamura - I thought he would take over at SS and never look back, but the guy has tackling issues especially in the open.

Honesty, i believed that flacco should of started day one since training camp. I saw a interview with him and just felt like his attitude was the best for our young O line.

Well, first off, I thought this would be a non-playoff year, so I have to eat crow on that one to begin with -- but I'm happy to do so, in this case.

But here's my list:

Antwan Barnes -- Didn't have the break-out season I thought he would.

Todd Heap -- Hasn't been as much of a factor in the passing game as I thought he would, though he's done well as a blocker.

Joe Flacco -- I thought he'd eventually edge Matt Ryan to become Rookie of the Year; I thought wrong.

Demetrius Williams -- I thought this year would be his breakout year, but it was cut short due to injury.

Chris McAlister -- I assumed he would return to form (and he did for a while), but injuries and a falling-out with Coach Harbaugh prevented him from coming full-circle.

Trevor Pryce -- I thought he'd have more sacks, but I'm still happy with how he's performed this season.

My guess was at best 8-8 this year playoffs next year.
Never thought Flacco should be benched or Smith started. I figured Boller would start the season and be benched by the bye.

Well, if we had known well in advance that the bye would technically be Week 2, then you still would've been close. ;)

I gave us no chance after relinquishing our bye , at best 9-7 , wow I was wrong I did say when we got neal mcclain would be better as a bettis type back you know like bam was for us in 98 so I guess I was right on that , and flacco I was right on him once he got his feet wet he struck down field like that new no line of sight cannon he is deadly at long ranged passing compared to boller sorry kyle the new kid is here to stay might want to try to go to NFLE or maybe Detroit.

Flacco- I was all for drafting him, just not starting him. I doubted what he could do and I prayed to god he wasnt scarred for the rest of his career. I wanted Troy Smith back ASAP.

Ray Rice- I was very dissapointed in the drafting of ray rice. I thought we had other needs with that pick and that Ray Rice was more of a 20 carry guy, not a third down/situational back. I was wrong.

Chris Chester- I thought we needed to draft a lineman to take Chesters spot as the backup for a few positions on the line. This guy has not only filled in admirably for Yanda, but might have improved our line play.

Jared Gaither- I thought he was a decent player, but not a great one and didnt have a lot of potential. Very injury prone and I wanted us to select a solid left tackle in the draft.

Samari Rolle- I wasnt confident in his deep coverage skills, and now he has turned out to be a very solid corner, and you can see the dropoff when he isnt in the game.

Jim Leonhard- I was all for cutting him and putting in Zbi, but now im lobbying to bring him back next season, and even considering whether or not he'd be better than Landry. Didnt see that coming.

Never thought that McClain would become a good HB, never... ever.... lol

I thought he was just going to be a second string FB, that wasnt going to show his face this year.. way off.

I thought at best Leron McClain would be a goalline runner, then I saw the footwork, and trucking, and stamina...wow.

I thought Jameel McClain was practice squad fodder.

Oh yeah, two years ago I though Samari Rolle was slow and done. He's gotten better.

W-L record: I was SURE the Ravens would end up 5-11 AT BEST, and that anyone who was seriously talking playoffs was seriously delusional.

Chris Chester: I saw BUST written all over his forehead, and had no idea why in the world we still even carried him on the roster.

Todd Heap: I was convinced he'd NEVER make it through all 16 games. Now, granted, his role this year is totally different than it's been any other year, but he has played in all 16 games so far, and has not gotten injured -- or injuries have not kept him out of any games.

LeRon McClain: He came to camp fat and out of shape, and I was convinced he would never live up to the glowing reports that followed him out of college. I'd wanted Brian Leonard, but felt like the cat that ate the canary when we drafted McClain, based on all the glowing college scouting reports that indicated that McClain was maybe even better than Leonard. All I saw at first was a guy whose best attributes seemed to be eating and fumbling. Man...was I wrong!

Adam Terry: If there was one thing I KNEW, it was that Adam Terry could NOT play RT. Wrong again.

C-Mac: I was sure that C-Mac was the only real CB we had.

Rex Ryan: I was convinced that it was a mistake to keep Ryan -- I thought a total house cleaning was in order.

Ray Ray: I was certain he'd let the contract issues interfere with his on-field performance. WAY wrong on this one. Now, I say: "GIVE HIM THE MONEY!" He's really been the only guy to show up EVERY game, and have an impact EVERY game.

Antwan Barnes: I thought he'd have a total break out year this year. Never really happened.

Yikes...I guess I really don't know as much as I think I do.

McGahee: I figured he'd be the consistent back that he was last year. 100 yards and a TD most games.

Figurs: I thought he was absoluely gonna tear it up this year, and become heir to Hester's throne (now that he's decided to go play reciever [which was a bad move if you ask me])

Cousins: I thought he'd come into the starting lineup and really rattle the D-lineman with his fiestyness. Not happened as of yet.

L.McClain: I felt that last year we missed Ovie Mughelli because Ovie caught passes and ran the ball, and I thought that McClain was just a blocking full back. Turns out that he could do it, the coaches just weren't asking him to.

Flacco: I thought he was gonna be good, but I felt that we reached for him in the draft, and that Troy should be the starter this year.

Washington: I certainly didn't think that he would be a servicable option at starting corner, but that's what he's become.

Leonhard: I didn't think he was big enough to play strong safety.

um, I think that's about it. Great topic by the way.

Boller to start and have his "best" season ever.

Flacco would just be a face on the bench holding a clip board and a pen waiting for his opportunity in two years.

6-10 season, 8-8 at the very best.

Thought Rice would be "The Man" Though thought loosing Cory Ross was more of a loss.

Thought Cam would be looikng for a job this weekend and Harbrough would have a lot of thinking and learning to do.

Thought Suggs was going to lay low and pout over money concerns.

Man some times I LOVE being wrong !!!!!!!

I figured we'd go 6-10, maybe 8-8 at best.
I also thought that Smith would start up to the bye in week 10, then we'd get Flacco some game time experience by starting him the last six games.

I was looking forward, like many here to the second coming of Jes...Troy Smith. I was almost expecting a Derick Anderson/Brady Quinn situation at some point. I don't think anyone can convince me, they really thought Joe would be playing opening day or this week with good results.

Season was a little better then I expected. I knew this team was closer to 13-3 then 5-11, healthy unlike most of the "professionals".

I thought we would keep Justin Green instead of Leron Mclain. Everything I read said he was the better overall athlete. Guess they were wrong.

Also I thought Derrick mason would finally make a Probowl as a Raven. didn't happen <_<

i thought Suggs wouldn't show up after all that talk in the offseason, but he did.

Oh, and of course, I thought Troy Smith would be starting.

(always knew Gaither was beast :D )

After the game when we lost to the Colts we were 2-3. A friend and I took the remaining schedule and filled it the rest of the way out. He had us finishing at 9-7 and I had us at 11-5. He looked at me like i was crazy and said "We are going to make the playoffs?!" I said "Yeah, were going to make the playoffs." Just the way we played hard against Pit and Ten, I knew there was something special there. Besides I was a little mad at the beating the Colts gave us (I felt we were better than that.) If you would have asked me on Opening day, I would have said 8-8 at best.

Let take care of business Sunday

I must admit I predicted a 6-10 season. I figurd that the rookies (coach, line, QB) would be on a major learning curve. The only wins would ocme against the teams our defense could handle. The rest of the league would run and pass all over us because our defense was supposed to be old and slow. I also figured that our offense would look like the same old 12 points per game team it always looks like, probably worse because of our RB situation.

Well...it is most certainly safe to say I was COMPLETELY wrong. Pessimism and Raven's fandom came hand in hand this season at the start...now I feel they can beat anyone.

We were talking realistic expectations. And no one on here realistically thought that with a rookie head coach and a rookie QB and a new offensive system, this team would have any shot at the Super Bowl.

well i like to be optimistic every year no matter what and looking at what weve done so far and where we are now, my expectations seem to be pretty realistic after all

It's always easy to look back in hindsight, though.

And keep in mind, when I say realistic, I'm referring to the fact that no one could've possibly expected to win a Super Bowl after such a dysmal 5-11 season, optimistic or not. There was nothing that indicated that this team would have such a remarkable turnaround, and there was nothing that said that John Harbaugh's system would have so much success so soon since no one knew anything about him as a coach.

But, we'll have to agree to disagree.

but, i also said that Troy Smith would not only start, but throw for 3200 yards, 24 TDS, and only 8 INTS (which i have to admit is pretty crazy). So i guess im not psychic.
