Bernard Pierce arrested and released

173 posts in this topic

The NFLPA has a program free of charge for all players where they can call up and get a ride anywhere, anytime.

Ok I assign you to go down to the castle this summer and alert all of our players of this said program. Apparently they do not realize this, and give them a list of numbers for every Taxi company in Baltimore. Problem solved.

Lol, some of the comments are even bringing up Flacco: "If Flacco gets a DUI, let's see what happens then." Wow.

And what if it happens to Manning or Brady ... or any other star. What does their team do? Slap on the wrist and put them in some program, that's what. But they aren't the Ravens. The Ravens are the one that have the spotlight on them. It started with Ray Lewis and will always be there. Rice just made the spotlight brighter.

I'm sick of us getting dragged through the mud. A DUI for a 3rd string RB for any other team would not even warrant an article, let alone the kind of front page action this is getting.

Exactly! Let a scrub from a team like the Chiefs, Rams, or Texans do this and we won't hear a peep. But once it's someone from the Ravens, bam! BREAKING NEWS! What a joke....

That's negative. You hear about it but don't care because you're not a fan of the team or in the local market.

There's been a few incidents with the cardinals that was reported involving guys in their 53 as well as practice squad players issues. But being that this is a ravens mb, ravens fans and a lot that live in Maryland there's nothing about the cardinal issues that anyone really cares about.

This is similar with pretty much every team.

In regards to some ravens stuff getting onto tmz its primarily because of the ray rice situation, how it was handled, and the fact that tmz obtained the video first.

They also reportd slot of negative stories on sf that ended up not being completely true...

I feel for Pierce quiet honestly. Even though his days were numbered. Since the start of the season, I had high hopes. To see it end this way is tragic.

I wish the best for that guy, maybe he'll thrive in a man blocking scheme.

Yeah, no it isn't. There is no way in the world a DUI from a 3rd string RB makes the #1 item on the headline on ESPN unless he's a Raven.

And if they did bother to post a similar transgression by another team's marginal player as a top news item, there wouldn't be a gaggle of fans of other teams jumping up and down about that team being a garbage organization.

It started with Ray Lewis and then was refreshed by Ray Rice and it will never end. It feeds on itself. If you think this is just Ravens fans suffering from a complex, you are mistaken.

Release him!! This way we can say we have cut players with drama. Then let's trade a Round6 draft pick for Daryl Washington and Justin Blackmon and use Pierce as the example so they won't mess up.

So, you want us to cut a guy that we already cut, and then bring in 2 guys with much worse criminal records than the guy we just cut?

By far the worst one was a slideshow on WBAL Grim posted a link to earlier today. First slide is BP, the rest are some real hard cases, including Hernandez, Belcher...

Less about PR and more about sending a message to the rest of the team. Most fans aren't even paying attention right now outside of BIG news (like Tebow working out for the Eagles). Guys like Flacco are obviously untouchable, but most guys on the team are closer in status to Pierce than Flacco.

Pierce knew it the second he was arrested too, asked the police to scrub it because the team would cut him. Well, he was right. And now his colleagues know that management isn't bluffing.

BP will just go and commit more crimes to get back on the team

That's not what I'm saying at all. Read it again. The statement "Love my Ravens, but Ray Lewis and possibly many others wouldn't be HOFers with this kind of rush-to-judgment, reactionary thinking." was only to point out that this 'new' reactionary policy which wasn't in place during their eras needs to be rethought. It's more about timing - not player performance.

Simply: I'm for due process for all players and teams not playing judge and jury (period). I somewhat disagree with you on the  "It's not fair, but such is life...". Life's fair. How some act within it sometimes creates unfair rushes to judgments and unjustifiable penalties that set questionable precedents for all.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. If you read my other post in this thread there may be more clarity there.

I also think that, under your scenario, an equally bad precedent is being set.

The obvious example is Ray Rice. The most likely outcome from a legal perspective is that "due process" determines that Ray Rice did NOTHING wrong. Upon completion of his domestic violence program, he's unlikely to ever be convicted of anything in the court of law. As such, from a "due process" and "legal" standpoint, Ray Rice will have never been convicted of a crime.

Thus, under the "due process" scenario, not only should Rice's employer have never punished him, he should also maintain his position on this team.

The problem is that we know all of the above is essentially a lie. We know that Ray Rice knocked his wife out... we've all seen it. We know what Ray Rice did, regardless of the actions that led up to it, was wrong, and warrants severe punishment of some kind.

This is the inherent problem with depending on the legal system to determine judgment for you... its not fool proof, and the legal system has proven to be overly lenient (and overly harsh) in instances where the general public and their employer don't think they should be.

As I've said many times already, the legal system represents the MINIMUM standard for acceptable societal behavior. If you're the kind of organization that lets the legal system determine acceptable societal behavior for you, then by definition, you're essentially accepting the MINIMUM standard.

Some organizations accept that, and others, such as the Ravens, hold their organization and their employees to higher standard than just the minimum.

Assuming he was just a this string despite every year previously he was a second string rb is your first mistake

And yes, as I pointed out az cardinals practice squad rb made news about his release for dv. Stop the bovine skat acting lie he media only reports negative stuff with the ravens. Its pathetic acting like the media only hates us and loves everyone else.

I know you'll point out dqwell as a starter but ignore pierce being a former starter and played in the sb

http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/17/us/nfl-jonathan-dwyer-alleged-domestic-violence/

So again we are Ravens fans and many live in n area where Ravens stuff is frequently reported so the tendency is to act like only that stuff gets on the news. That's false

I agree. All you gotta do is think back to some of the Dallas Cowboys in the 90s. If people were as quick with reactionary social judgement then, as people are now. NO WAY Dallas gets those rings. They had a few lawyer up situations during those years. That team would have been dismantled. At the end of the day we all people, with "private lives" if that exists anymore. Some folks live that life square as a box of fruity pebbles perfect. And the rest of us deviates make poor decisions and choices that don't fit in that square if you will.

Right there is the issue. The proliferation of social media, and media in general has erased any "private life" for folks in the public eye.

The court of public opinion doesn't take long to hold a trial, judge and convict, so even the appearance of wrong doing has to be dealt with immediately. Sad state of affairs, but I can't criticize the Ravens' policy in any way. These guys need to adjust accordingly or they will be in the same boat as BP.

It's up to him now to not mess this up. He has an opportunity to make a clean start in a warm weather city.

This. Sometimes a new start is just what a person needs.

very true, but he went from a top 5 oline to the absolute worst in the legue, I don't think he'll like that at all.

How he ran last two seasons, it wouldn't make any difference.

Probably not liking the OL change but he going from having no job to once again making over 600k. This was a close call and he should count his blessing and work hard.

So he gets signed to a team who has another player who has got caught with a DWI in Blackmon, and that's a new start? If anything Blackmon found a new drinking partner.
