Webby Restructures

Lardarius Webb restructure includes $5.5 million guaranteed, including a $3 million bonus, according to league source

Based on this, it would appear that perhaps his base salary would be $2.5M. That would, if the prior reports of $6M this year were accurate (and not just someone rounding up), mean that the other $500K was probably incentives.

As such, the Cap savings would be more in the $4-4.5M range than the $2M that it appeared upon the initially reported numbers. The $500K difference would depend on whether the incentives count in 2015 or not (LTBE or NTLBE?).

So if we cut him next year, what are the cap implications? Any details on that?

That Raven for life thing is like showing up on Talking dead. You might not be around much longer. I remember Boldin saying he'd retire before playing for another team or something along those lines... I'm m just happy something was worked out and he's here. Just hoping Jimmy doesn't need a lot of time to get back into a rhythm because Webb was playing well down the stretch. If we can get a full season out of both of them, the defense should be much improved.

Lol yup. That is so true. I was just pointing out Webb's intentions are to stay a Raven according to what he said.

True, I am assuming an individual wants to maximize their earnings and get paid what they think they are worth. I think that's probably a pretty safe assumption, especially given the limited window of earning potential for an NFL player.

And I do think, as well, that the Ravens are one of the better organizations to play for, guys want to play here and stay here. But will they sacrifice millions to do so? My realistic assumption is no.

I don't disagree with that. That's why I stopped getting mad when players leave. You only have a certain amount of time to get as much money as possible before retiring. I'm just saying that maybe not every case is the same. Webb did after all get paid a lot of money for not being on the field. Maybe he feels like he owes the Ravens something.

And what is the point of having free money if we have no one to spend it on?

Long terms extensions for players on the team... Jimmy comes to mind.

Having more room would allow the team to pay him a higher salary in year 1 of the contract and make future cap hits lower helping the team in the future as opposed to the usual, where you try to make the 1st couple years extremely cap friendly and leave the higher base salaries on the back end.

Not only that theres always training camp cuts and trade options. Both of which we have a history, especially recently, of being very active on those markets after June 1st.

I know zero about Skrine or House, but would bet that neither has the health concerns that Webb has had and also bet they haven't missed a huge amount of games during their NFL careers as Webb has.

You're making assumptions that apparently Webby and his agent didn't ascribe to. You don't think they put feelers out to determine interest and worth? If they thought he would have been better off being cut that's the road that would have been followed. You're just kidding yourself by thinking otherwise.

skrine has missed 0 games in his career and house missed 24 games in 4 seasons.

house in the 40 games he did play he was only a starter in 14 mostly as a nickel corner.

skrine in the 64 games he played he was a starter in 37 .

love how you said you don't know them but then still make an assumption basicially based on nothing lol.

seriously skrine played for the browns and thus you should have noticed him in past 4 seasons....

also since webb was under contract his agent wasn't officially allowed to talk to other teams about a potential contract unless the ravens gave permission.

its called tampering.

also aren't you the one assuming there isn't a market for a good CB and aren't you the 1 assuming Webb might actually wanted to stay with the team that stuck by him during his injuries.

I showed you want cbs could get on the current market and its more then what webb got from us...

Absolutely not!  Why should they?  I don't blame these players one bit for wanting to leave Baltimore and get paid elsewhere when the opportunity presents itself.
