Ladarius Webb reacts to fan

301 posts in this topic

I really hate when fans tell professional athletes what the should/shouldn't do, whether that is about contracts, play, or workouts, etc.

If you want to talk abou players in a public forum like this so be it, but if you go after them on their personal social media it's stepping over a boundary. Players have every right to lash out at ignorant fans. In a perfect world they shouldn't do it either, but it's within their right to do so.

Post-June 1 cut saves $8M cap...yes please.

Yeah, I've felt this way since the end of the season, has nothing to do with this issue.

To say the least, Webby seems a little hypersensitive about his level of pay compared to his level of performance. Not sure if he took the time to think about his tweet, but he sure did screw up. Along with the observations others have posted here seems like he isn't the most likeable guy, which isn't a big surprise to me.

Webb made his IG public.  If he wanted to keep it his "personal social media" maybe he should have locked it down.

Sure, they are allowed to act however they want, however, I have to think the Ravens organization does not stand for and will not support this kind of behavior.

Torrey and Steve Smith have done similar things, it's not a big deal.

The vet was being pretty positive and his comment did not deserve Webb's negative response. I would fully support Webb being off the team June 1.

Wooow, thanks for sharing this. Disappointing to see one of our vets come off that way. Pretty easy just to ignore that stuff.

It's still personal. If some random "fan" wants to question him, Webb has every right to call him out.

Sure, Webb has every right to call him out, but to tell him to go back overseas where the dude fought for our country?  Uhh...that's more than a little bit across the line.

Hopefully when it's all said and done Webb will be able to use these words:

“I want him to look up to me and say, ‘Dad, you never quit,’” Webb said. “No matter what comes in his way, what obstacle – hard or easy – he knows he can get through it because his daddy did it.”

Oh, he already did that today during his award interview. It just doesn't add-up to what was posted here.

Still looking for his (Webb) account verification.

Let me tell you guys something about Webb. A friend of mine who moves junk out of people's houses helped take junk out of Webb's house a few years ago. Webb didn't pay him and this was just after he got his big payday from the Ravens. When he asked Webb to pay him Webb gave him money but it was less than they originally agreed. We're talking about a couple hundred bucks.

I don't respect Webb but I don't need to respect football players.

That's ridiculous. I just can't understand that at all. I don't know why some football players think they're above courtesy of any sort just because they have money and are a famous figure. Just amazing

Just because this guy is a vet doesn't mean he has the right to be ignorant on social media. Yes, Webb went over the line but the dude said some pretty disrespecful things himself.

If true,a visit to a VA hospital and an apology is in order.

The vet said:

"Dear @l_webb21  I'm glad you are doing something to give back. But also I hope you are doing more for your team as well. When I was stationed overseas you were one of my favorite players at one point because of your relentless passion of the game... Now it's like you aren't playing up to the 12 mil the ravens are paying you. This isn't a bash but just like @untouchablejay55 in a leadership role pull the extra to be the shutdown corner they envisioned you to be. Be the Spiderwebb!! #PlayLikeARaven"

Webb said:

"You don't have to be a fan of mine. I could care less homeboy!! Take your butt back overseas."

For some odd reason the vet thought it was the  prefect time to tell Webb what he should do for the betterment of the team on his instagram post in which was showing a video of his charity work. He tells Webb he should be like Terrell Suggs and basically take up the leadership role to do what's best for the team then tells Webb be The SpiderWebb.

Hmmm seems quite demanding to me .

what if he regrets saying it. Is that good enough?

Go back through this thread and read the comments I've posted.  I basically stated the same thing that is bolded in your post.

I guess we are in agreement then. Webb shouldn't have lashed out, but that's part of social media. He probably regrets saying it. I hope the "fan" realizes he was being a punk.

:) I read your entire post, but that was the only part that I wanted to respond to.

Thanks for reading the entire post, I appreciate that!  If this situation was between two other people and one wasn't in the military and the other wasn't an athlete I don't think this would nearly be the topic of discussion.  But since it was, people are taking this personally, and interjecting their own emotion into this from whatever perspective their life experience has given them up to this point.  I appreciate your opinion, and I am not in disagreement with it to a certain degree.

Generally speaking, I just wish folks would be a little more patient, and not so emotional in their responses...if both parties involved here had done this we wouldn't now have this to deal with.  I think both made an error in judgment and I think it would be a safe premise that both probably are regretting it by now.

Dude sorta said (in my words) "dude, you were a beast...can you get back to that and ball out for the Ravens again?"

Then Webb goes off with a stupid and completely unnecessary comment.

Not trying to be argumentative... but can you quote the disrespectful things the fan said for me?

Lol. He now makes the most money on the team. Asking him to be the hardest working and a leader is demanding?

Not in my opinion if the intent was as dismissive as what it appears to be. Further, I would recommend that every American who has not done this already to visit a VA hospital to show support and have a real perspective for what sacrifices are taken.

That said, a simple apology would not suffice. I'm still not convinced that the account is truly Webb's, but whomever it is gets my "Idiot of the Year Award".

Is he a coach?. So he's knows about Webb work ethic enough to say be the hardest working?. He knows all about Webb leadership in that locker room to the point he knows it's right to ask Webb to be more of  a leader or like Terrell Suggs?

No one in here will take a pay cut from their jobs to reportedly..."help their company"....no one! So, to expect these players to do so is extremely hypocritical! As far as Webb's response? There's only so much a man will take before he pushes back.

A veteran posted that he was a huge fan of Webb overseas and hoped that Webb would do something to help the team out.

Webb replied by saying, "you don't have to be a fan of mine. I don't care homeboy. Take yo [butt] back overseas."

I read that a little differently...  "He thanked him for doing stuff in the community, but hoped he would "Do More" for his team.  He has always been very cognizant of fans.  I like Webb and have known him to traditionally be a very cool guy when it comes to his fans, the community, and benefit events.  I think this was two things:  1) Overblown...  2) Maybe there's more to this than we know???  Do we know there wasn't something before or after that's not included here??? I think maybe it was a response to a personal attack BY a fan, and maybe he was caught at a bad time,  And because of that, he may not have taken into account that the guy was a veteran...

Right or wrong, no one wants to hear or have it suggested that they are not worth the pay they are to receive. That's crossing personal space and boundary to post it directly to the player. Both should have thought before they posted but I don't fault Webb anymore than I fault the fan.

Has there been any confirmation of this Webb account? Is it truly his?

Again, agree with you, but this fan didnt ask him to take a pay cut.
