Ladarius Webb reacts to fan

301 posts in this topic

I don't have time to speak negative to a player on his page or make request like that. If you don't understand that then cool.  If other people feel as though that in their life they have enough time to send negative messages to players and request they take a pay cut then fine that them but that's not me. I hope that adds up  for you.

I never said Webb was right for what he said. If you can find that part where I said it was right then that's my fault

It seems you think what the vet said was worse than how Webb responded. If that is truly what you believe, you should reevaluate.

It's his account.  I follow Webb's IG and saw the remarks.

If so, the backlash could be brutal league-wise. However if it's a faux account set-up by an outside party and/or hacked, we're getting into a whole other thing. I just can't believe that he would put himself out there like that.

That would go far beyond the "Webb should sacrifice for the team...rah rah" That would be a Ravens PR nightmare. His contract opinion column doesn't trump telling a vet to go back overseas while we're still at war and have more vets home than anytime in our country's history. Who cares about salary if this is the case?

A news article was JUST posted by BaltimoreRavens.com on how Webb has "overcome multiple serious injuries only to get back up to keep fighting."

Coincedence or damage control??

The vet should not have stepped over that line. Webb should have kept his cool and either ignored it or responded more civilly. Both of them are in the wrong.

That being said, the outrage over this is ridiculous. Did no one else ever have a bad moment and say something he soon wished he could take back?

I don't like the fact. that Webb isn't taking a paycut, but I also can't fault him for it. His body is taking a beating in the NFL. This might be his only big contract in his football carreer and he has the rest of his live to care about.

Yeah it was out of line to suggest the pay cut. However in all fairness he has been well compensated for not playing. Its not like he is gonna go broke over a $2mil pay cut. Especially when the ravens payed him well b4 they had to. If they had waited he would only have made a fraction of what the ravens payed him cuz he got injured. He should feel lucky and be happy to give back $2mil to help his team win. The ravens would make it up to him if he plays well next year. His comments doesn't surprise me. He racked up a near $200 check in apps and drinks at the bar at a restaurant and tippedmy cousin $5. He made some plays and hinted to taking her out and she wasn't interested in him in that way. He responded with a $5 tip

If he doesn't light it up next year no team will want him after those comments to a soldier.

This is why I thought the fan was out of line, but that doesn't itself make Webb's response any better.

Not disagreeing with you, mind.

Let me tell you guys something about Webb. A friend of mine who moves junk out of people's houses helped take junk out of Webb's house a few years ago. Webb didn't pay him and this was just after he got his big payday from the Ravens. When he asked Webb to pay him Webb gave him money but it was less than they originally agreed. We're talking about a couple hundred bucks.

I don't respect Webb but I don't need to respect football players.

Generally speaking, there are a few thoughts we could all benefit from out of this situation:

This situation can be viewed as a classic example of what happens when people say and read comments on the internet. You are reading "spoken language" without hearing the "tone" of voice of the person making the comment.

It is difficult to discern tone, intent, sarcasm, familiarity, passion, or anger, etc. of words without hearing them spoken, or at the very least viewing an entire conversation between two or more people, or knowing of their past conversation history.

Frequently people will tend to read their own feeling and emotions into other people's comments, and then react, when that is not what that person meant at all.  Some folks don't even bother reading the whole conversation before they begin to react. It is a very slippery slope engaging into conversations with people you have no familiarity with in some cases.  It is why people need to  be more cognizant of their language choices made during a burst of passion, excitement, anger or intense emotion because your post will remain long after your feelings have subsided.

With the advent of social media in today's society, everyone has an opinion, and some think since they now have exposure or a platform to voice their opinions that makes them experts on everything because of it.   Not every opinion has or needs to be discussed in public, some things are better left to private discussions.

Maybe in this particular case the choice to offer advice to someone regarding their salary that you do not know personally would have been better left to not be discussed at all. Maybe the choice to respond to such type of comments would be better if ignored.  As mentioned before, not every comment on the internet deserves or is worthy of a response.  If discretion has been used by one or either party in this matter we wouldn't have this situation.   Just a thought!

It's not good look for veteran whom represented our country overseas to say what he said either but it's understandable for Webb to take more of the heat for it.

I agree that the comment was unnecessary but at least the fans tone was respectful - he may not have any place to say what he did - but at least he shared his opinion with a respectful tone.

Webb responded in an insulting manner. Definitely a bad look.

Plus, with the hundreds of fans that post on everything these guys put up on social media... he didnt have to say anything at all. Could have just as easily ignored it all together.

Webb's definitely in the wrong here

Agreed. In this case the lion would be the vet - the sheep doesn't become more than a sheep even with a million dollars.

There is no way of reading "take your butt back overseas", said to a vet, that can put it in any sort of good light.

I don't think any grown person should be concerned about another person salary enough to make suggestion that he or she should take a pay cut on their page or even in their face. It was  a ridiculous  comment from the start the moment he said Dear Webb.

That's the other thing - he doesnt ask Webb to take a pay cut.

He says he used to love Webb because he played with so much passion and so hard; and that now he doesnt feel Webb plays that way and therefore is playing up to his contract.

He simply asks Webb to do what's best for the team - which could be read as simply wanting Webb to play with that passion and fire again so that he IS earning that contract. I could be wrong and I'll re-read it but i dont think he says Webb help the team out by restructuring.

I think both were wrong. Webb gets more of the attention cause he's the player but  the veteran was  wrong as well.

You are correct but the adjectives he added showed his tone and attitude.

Sometimes (especially between friends) even those adjectives are used jokingly. Not being the apologist. I'm still wondering if this Webb account is real or fake.

The only way Webb actually does whats best for the team is to accept less money or he could reconstruct  his contract in a way  where he get's a certain amount money due to certain level of play on the field which I think is called incentives/bonus(not sure).

He said" Dear Webb I'm Glad you doing  something to give back. But also hope you doing more for your team as well" . It's fine that he's glad Webb is giving back but for him to say "I hope you doing more for  the team as well" didn't need to be said in my opinion. Overall what he's saying is hey Webb it's great you doing a good job for the community but I think you need to take a pay cut. That doesn't seem right to me and quite a ridiculous  comment in my opinion. Is he Webb agent? No.Is he Webb financial accountant? No. Is he Webb parent? No.

It's one thing for a Ravens fan to suggest Webb should take a pay cut on fan boards and etc but it's another to make such suggestion on a players page or to a player inperson.  The Ravens Organization have more of the right to say  directly to Webb that he needs to take a pay cut  or do something about his contract and you know why? Cause they the ones paying him .

Honestly me personally I don't have the time to comment on a player page and tell him to take a pay cut or do what's best for the team. In my opinion that's silly and I got better things to do in my life. Will have discussions with other fans about a play contract with other Raven fans ? Yes but it's not the same thing when  I literally type a  suppose message starting off with "Dear"to a player telling him I hope you take a pay cut.

Your assumption that he's talking about a pay cut isnt supported by the rest of his comment. He goes on to say that Webb used to be one of his favorite players bc of how he played so hard and "like a Raven" but hasnt seemed to recently.

By that, it seems he's asking Webb to play with more passion and earn his contract, not necessarily take a pay cut.

Either way, the way Webb responded was childish.

Coincidence.

The instagram picture and posts this conversation came from were in reference to him winning the Ed Block Courage award.. So that's why the timing is the same.

The vet said:

"Dear @l_webb21  I'm glad you are doing something to give back. But also I hope you are doing more for your team as well. When I was stationed overseas you were one of my favorite players at one point because of your relentless passion of the game... Now it's like you aren't playing up to the 12 mil the ravens are paying you. This isn't a bash but just like @untouchablejay55 in a leadership role pull the extra to be the shutdown corner they envisioned you to be. Be the Spiderwebb!! #PlayLikeARaven"

Webb said:

"You don't have to be a fan of mine. I could care less homeboy!! Take your butt back overseas."

The vet was being pretty positive and his comment did not deserve Webb's negative response. I would fully support Webb being off the team June 1.
