Ladarius Webb reacts to fan

Thanks Fish! So the uproar over Webb's reaction is totally justified imo.

So anybody in the military is free to say whatever inflammatory remarks they want to, because they are in the military.

This makes sense to nobody.

Let me reiterate this once again...the guy is in the Navy.  It says it on his LinkedIn page which was very very easy to find.  He's not a contractor, he's not a member of the band, he's in the U.S. Navy.

I don't think Webby uses LinkedIn....

Duh, they can do no wrong! If this was said to a firefighter or a cop, this would be a none story but this country has an obsession with military and will jump into argument over a drop of a hat.

Wait a minute. We are talking about equity of response to a fan's question. The response that Webb gave in response to a request by a fan wasn't called for to begin with. And on top of that, to insult a person who is serving in the military by asking him to go back to the battlefield is far worse.

When I talk about equity of response, I mean there is a degree of responsibiltiy that Webb possesses (in that he is a representative of the Baltimore Ravens and a public figure), who is a role model to young kids and needs to conduct himself with a degree of decorum. He displayed no such thing in his response. That was the point and on top he insulted the service that all military personnel deliver to this country regardless of any selfish needs.

A guy , who happened to be in the navy , went on his personal social media page and disrespected him and he responded.

Stop sensationalizing this.

Would Webb or anybody go on a military member's facebook page and tell them that if they really loved this country that they would take a paycut? No. So why is it okay when the tables are turned?

How about we break this down? I don't see the guy as trolling or anything and I see Webb's response as totally over the top.

"Dear @l_webb21  I'm glad you are doing something to give back. But also I hope you are doing more for your team as well.

Okay, so nothing yet that says that he is saying Webb should take a pay cut. He's just simply saying he hopes that Webb does more, which can mean multiple things, including a pay cut, training harder during the offseason, spending more time in the film  room, etc. So, no clear indication yet.

When I was stationed overseas...

Pretty obvious he was in the military if he's stationed overseas. As "Fish" has pointed out, he was US Navy.

...you were one of my favorite players at one point because of your relentless passion of the game... Now it's like you aren't playing up to the 12 mil the ravens are paying you.

All he's saying is that Webb isn't playing up to his contract, which Webb likely knows because he was approached earlier for a pay cut and actually feared he may get cut. Again, this vet isn't saying that Webb needs to take a pay cut, but that his passion and level of play aren't enough for what he's being paid.

This isn't a bash but just like @untouchablejay55 in a leadership role pull the extra to be the shutdown corner they envisioned you to be. Be the Spiderwebb!! #PlayLikeARaven"

I can see where some people might see the pay cut part because he mentions Suggs, but read the entire sentence and it seems less and less like he's talking about a pay cut. He mentions being like Suggs, a leader, and being a shutdown corner. Now, would he really suggest taking a pay cut if he hopes Webb can be a shutdown corner? I really seriously doubt it. I think he's more so saying that he hopes that Webb can regain his passion and fire for the game, much like Suggs, who is very passionate, and be a leader on defense, much like the very outspoken Suggs.

I'm not seeing any clear indication that he's telling Webb to take a pay cut or anything of the sort. I think he's just saying he hopes to see the Webb of old, the one that earned that massive paycheck. That's not a negative thing to say or like he's telling Webb what to do with his money. Now, let's look at Webb's response and break it down.

"You don't have to be a fan of mine. I could care less homeboy!!

Other than being I couldn't care less, this is a fine statement. Okay, Webb is just responding and saying the guy doesn't have to be a fan and he doesn't care if the guy is a fan because Webb is getting paid either way. That's fine and dandy and that's not an issue. Webb replying isn't the issue because if he had stopped there, it's no issue at all. This is the issue...

Take your [butt] back overseas."

This is where I don't understand people defending Webb. Many of us on these boards have never been overseas and Webb is living a very easy life and will never go overseas unless he's on a very lucrative vacation. He will never know what it's like to be in the heat of battle overseas and many of us won't either. It is never acceptable to tell someone to go back into a war zone. The things that they see I'm sure are beyond traumatizing and worse than anything most of us will see in our lifetime. For all we know, that vet may have killed someone and that's one of the hardest things I'm sure someone can do, if they're sane. Telling someone to go back into a war zone with a large amount of killing, gunfire, and overall danger is not cool in any way shape or form. I'm sure any of the veterans on this site who have been overseas would tell you they never want to go back and they'd be offended if anyone said that to them. There is no defending Webb saying this.

Webb did just take less money to help the team, I think we can just drop this subject and give the guy his due for doing it

Turns out this might have been a reason for Webb getting ticked off - looks like they were just finishing the deal when he was provoked. No excuses though, military or not if you are a pro athlete, just don't say anything negative in the open.

Have to wonder if that vet pushed him into this...

In all seriousness, I'm glad Webb took a much needed pay cut, but it still doesn't change what he said. Happy nonetheless that he did.

Yeah I don't think he should have said that but at the same time he did just take a 2.5 mil pay cut to stick around. I am sure he has heard plenty of grief recently on all this stuff and I would imagine he regrets saying it. Nothing really to do but just move on

I wonder if this means the Ravens were tired of missing out and are definitely landing someone

They have been working on this for a while. Surely, it's coincidence.

i wonder why he overreacted so bad. His action of taking the pay cut would have said more than and reply on twitter ever could have. The guy would have looked even more an idiot if Webb said nothing and took the pay cut.

Yeah there is because the guy came onto his page and told him what to do with his finances. That guy should mind his own business. I would of rather him say "Good for you, I don't care" then take your butt back overseas but at the end of the day.

Freedom of Speech.

Hate him if you want to but this isn't a huge issue.

Maybe it had something to do with the timing of the whole thing. He is about to receive a reward for his courage and he is about to take a paycut to help out the team, and some random guy comes at him with those ignorant comments? I don't blame him at all for saying what he did. It would have been better if he didn't say it, but the guy deserved getting called out.

I heard the audio this morning on 105.7 and Ladarius' response was out of line -- trashy angry.  Wow, any respect I had for him went out the window.

Please, quote where the man said that Webb needed to take a pay cut.

You never ever ever tell a member of our military, or a veteran, to take their butt back overseas (to a warzone) period.

Vets do not have the right to say anything they please, but to tell them to take their butt back overseas is an incredibly insensitive thing to say.  End of story.  Don't understand how people think Webb is justified because the guy told him to play like he's being paid to play.
