GUYS STOP ARGUING I HAVE A PLAN

we give ed reed a pair of sunglasses and a bluesmoblie, with a half of tank of gas

Ed will drive through a mall and not hit anything, because he hasn't done that in years, but, on a mission from oz he will track down ....

CMAC!

DUANE STARKS!

AND....

ROD WOODSON, ANOTHER HALL OF FAMER!

good news is, none of these plauers have contracts, so we can totally get them. Double plus good news? Finally, all the Ravens fans living in the past will be stoked! Its a win-win!

I'm sure after this plan I will teplace eric decosta as second in waiting to ozzie at the castle.

In related news, did anyone drink that green beer going around today?

where is this common idea coming from that will hill is purely a FS?

he is versatile and plays both spots, but on the giants they had a stud SS in antrel rolle, and the ravens have nothing at FS forcing him to play there, but safety was a revolving door for us and hill showed that he is a decent FS but a dominant SS, one of the best in the league. most FS's dont play man up on feature TE's and attack the slot and the flats, that is where will hill showed absolute dominance.

kendrick lewis on the other hand is a natural FS who can play some good run support. if lewis is the starter day 1, he will be FS and hill will be the SS.

if anything it gives us  a reliable presence and ballhawking potential at FS and most importantly it gives us stability to allow our other players to step into their best roles.

Thank you great post.  I do not know where anyone gets the idea that Will Hill is strictly a free safety, in fact, if you watched him last season when he excelled is when we let him go man up on TEs or come up short around the hashes.  I.E. his breakout game vs. the Saints and Jimmy Graham.  Kendrick Lewis is a guy that I had hoped we would take a look at last off season, but like others I assumed he signed more than just a one year prove it deal with Houston.  During Lewis's presser he said he wouldn't call himself a center fielder and he likes to come up in the box, and that is fair as you seem him blitzing through the line of scrimmage and that's a great skill set, no body wants to be labeled a one trick pony but make no mistakes he will be the FS.  Thinking about it, I think with both Lewis and Hill we could have something there, mainly due to the fact that they are both so versatile, deception is valued pre snap and if the QB does not know which of them is going to be where, there could be some turnovers to be had there

yes and thats what i was hoping we could have had with elam and brooks, but elam didnt pan out at his natural position of SS let alone show versatility to play free, and brooks was solid as a nickel corner and struggled everywhere else, and then got injured.

i think kendrick lewis on his own is an average safety, but if you can pair him with another versatile weapon like hill then suddenly they feed off eachother and both become much better

I don't think the Ravens would sign this guy to a 3 yr deal if they didn't believe he helps our secondary immediately, especially considering he was a free agent and wasn't released. His signing actually cancels out one of our free agent losses with regard to compensatory picks.

Foxworth and Huff come to mind.

Are the numbers out on the deal yet?

Really starting to like this signing...for sure has a lot of swagger. I think he is going to step right into our starting strong safety spot.

So we still don't have contract details besides that it is a 3 year deal? It can't be a big contract since the guy Houston signed to replace him (Raheem Moore) signed a relatively small contract.

The numbers, I believe, are the same...  3 years, $8M???  Someone had posted that here.

Foxworth really wasn't that bad his first year or so. But, Huff was terrible. No, I don't think they are about to reveal numbers quite yet, because of competitive advantage situations. They want free agents and their agents to believe they have adequate cap space to sign them if need be. The didn't even release numbers on Canty yet.

I thought that Canty was said to be $2.5M

Yeah thanks! I just saw that too. I wonder why then Lewis' numbers aren't released yet?

Good point. Never thought about that aspect.

@RavensInsider: Kendrick Lewis three-year Ravens deal, $5.4 million, $1.4M bonus, salaries $800,000, $1.4 million, $1.8 million

there is Lewis's deal per Aaron Wilson

That's a steal at 1.8 average.

Just saw this myself. That is crazy low. Even if he is only an "average" player that is a steal. The guy has started every game in his 5 year career so far.

So about 1.266 cap hit for this year, I'll take that

Interestingly, Matt Elam's cap figure is $1.8M.

Open competititon here we come...

I think this move is very underrated because you're pushing back Hill into the in the box/rover type role and he absolutely excels there. He may have filled in admirably at the single high role, but his range isn't ideal and he performed much better when asked to play down in the box and mark up on a tight end. Even if Lewis is only average, you're putting Hill in the position to really be one of the best safeties in the league. I had high hopes for Elam, but he'll likely just rotate in as the third safety and play the rover role when Hill marks up man to man

Too early to tell, but I have a feeling.  :)

I think 92 will be made available.   19, 52, and 20 are gone forever.  I think if you start getting too hyper on making numbers unavailable, you eventually will end up putting decimal points on jerseys and that is just strange.

I think #75 might be on that list as well. I thought we had someone with the #19, though? I could very well be wrong there. Just thought there was one. Like some no-name guy or something, lol.
