How will we address each of our areas of greatest need (DB, WR and TE)?

257 posts in this topic

We've finally got a little breathing room, but we've also got a lot of needs -- all at skill positions.

I'm figuring we'll want an experienced TE, but that we'll also let Gilmore have a shot at starting, and have fingers crossed that Pita can play and stay healthy, although I'm not optimistic about that.

WR - I think we'll make a play for Andre Johnson, then grab someone in round 3 or 3. Then, we take Gordon or Gurley who I believe will do more for our offense, and help the defense stay off the field. Our OL is too good at run blocking to not take a shot at a top RB.

However, if we don't sign AJ, then I think we go CB or WR in Round 1.

CB - I don't think the FO is as worried about CB as most of us are. Last year's perfect storm of injuries was a fluke. Sure, we'll have injuries and need depth. But I like signing promotable DB's from other teams' rosters, as we've done in the past.

Even with the CB injuries last year the secondary was just "ok"

Jimmy Smith - Top Tier if he can stay healthly

Webb - Appears pretty injured and clapped out.

Jackson - another injury prone/one suspension away from long term

Elam - Waste products

Hill - Quality but one suspension away from long term

Miles - Special Teams nothing more

Stewart - Below average starter

Even with every one of them healthy thats not a quality secondary.

Where is Melvin? He's our third, possibly second best CB considering that he played through injuries near the end of the season.

About as solid of fan plan as I've seen.  We have the cap room for Jordan and he's a known quantity over the top TE draft prospects who are ho-hum this year.  Except maybe Devin Funchess who is more of a hybrid WR/TE.

I've been making the case for Eddie Royal for a while.,  The dude just gets open and like Forsett has been undervalued/utilize since his rookie season.  Low miles and ability make for a cheap and grateful veteran who move the chains.  However, I am relatively satisfied with Marlon, Kamar and Camp, but they'll need a veteran guy like Royal to push them in camp.

Hau'oli Kikaha possible in the 2nd or early 3rd?

Make a play for Andre though it looks doubtful. If not maybe Reggie Wayne on a cheap deal just to have a fall back plan. Draft wr round 1 - strong or DGB if staying put or use the extra picks as ammo to move up for devante.

Resign Forsett or draft round 2 or 3.

Sign Browner and cut Webb post June 1 or after the season to clear space for Browners future cap hit. Draft depth in round 3/4.

Draft OLB in middle rounds.

Make a run at Cameron or draft TE.

How will we address each of our areas of greatest need (DB, WR and TE)?

DB: Brandon Browner

WR: FA like Bowe/Wayne/Harvin, etc.

TE: Draft

I think the Ravens address each of these positions early in the draft as well and now have ammo to move up to snag a top 15 player

I think 2nd but I like that kid.

You can't ignore his numbers..we need one young OLB to replace doom or suggs and i think he's the one

DB draft and no name vet

WR FA vet and possible double dip in draft

TE Draft and possible late vet signing in FA like Fells from the Giants or Gresham if the market stays cool on him

DE Draft and cut vet to give some experience to our young guys

OLB Draft

QB draft

RB Forsett will prob resign and then draft a young guy to give us a nice trio

S I think Brooks and Hill together can give us a good backfield there but we need a replacement for Elam or for Elam to finally have the game slow down for him. We still will draft a guy just in case Brooks loses his speed.

We will do it Ozzie's way!! Can't win 'em all but we come real close! Eric, we know you are out there, or next in line! Don't ever leave us, Steve's got your back! Loves my Ravens!!

Haven't heard any Charles Clay rumors with us. Heard he would visit Bills, & Eagles. But I wouldn't mind Charles Clay. ( although I think Juice could be very valuable in the passing game given the opportunity. ).

I'd like to see a vet corner added :

like Charles Tillman added to secondary. Cheap deal Tillman is very crafty, good tackler and a playmaker.

Or Rashean Mathis.

Role the dice on WR like Mike Williams ( at one point he looked like a very solid WR the last 2 years he's been non-existent though ).

Denarius Moore maybe.

clay got transition tagged which means dolphins can match any offer clay gets to not loose him.

the tag is 7 mil this year and the dolphins have a lot more cap space so its really hard for the ravens to pull it off.

I think we'll pick up a veteran WR in FA, I am hoping they make a play for Bowe. He's going to be hungry after the season he had with the Chiefs. He's big and has good numbers for catches 20+ yards. With a quarterback like Joe, I think he'll do well. Front office likes the receivers we have on roster right now so the only need is a stretch receiver, which I think we'll draft. I like Devin Smith for that. The concern I have is TE. I think the quality FA's out there are thin so I'm not sure what we're going to do about them.

Personally, I don't think tight end is that big of a need. Trestman doesn't use two tightend sets as much as Kubiak. Since tightends aren't considered primary receivers in Trestman's style of offense, Gilmore can probably handle the starting role just fine. And we have Juice that can play the position and be more of a receiving option. I think a midround pick of someone with some athletic ability and a potentially high upside will due the trick there.

With the extra money from the Ngata move, I'd want the Ravens to go after a really good d-lineman or a solid, healthy corner. Someone like Terrance Knighton.

What is making people soo confident in Gillmore?! He has said in the past he enjoys blocking more than catching and would prefer to be a blocking tight end! He had 100 receiving yards last year!! When he was the starter with Daniels out he only had like 2 catches in games he is not the tight end we need for the "move" tight end and people need to realize this is a huge need along with running back and receiver!!

Juice played TE in college also he could always be a fall back option at TE. I'm all for a 4th rounder for TE but I'm not jumping or one t the op of the draft.

You forgot pass rusher.  With McPhee, Canty, and Ngata gone this is now a priority for FA or draft.

We do have Urban and KLM coming back this year so while I agree pass rusher is a need I see it as more an OLB

He also caught 10 of 15 passes thrown his way for a 10 yard average.  Pretty good for a guy who "would prefer being a blocking tight end".  And he also caught a 21 yard TD in his first playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh.

KLM's retiring man, he's been away for like 2 years.

Just went on his twitter he has a recent tweet about rehab , he seems in good spirits and his motto or whatever at the top is " Fell down 3 Times , Get up 4".

So I don't think he is retiring.
