Haloti Ngata traded to Lions

We build through the draft.

Last year, we had a very good draft class, thus we have the depth to make moves like these.

Hope this year turns out another solid class for the Ravens.

KO, Gino, Pierce, Tyson, Asa, McClellan, Morgan cox, sam,

I was thinking starters.  NFL network was talking about it...

Good move. We got William and Jernigan as well as urban, tyson, and KLM. Also a very, very strong DT class. Plus 8.5 million more in cap space.

If I counted correctly, of the 53 from our SB, 17 are still on the roster, 7 of which are full time starters (if you count Pitta, that's 8). :/

Thanks cw...  ;)

Daniels also gone, but Pitta coming back, and Gillmore who I think can be a starter

.

Getting Suggs re-structured and the trade of Ngata all in a day makes me just think that there's something cooking here

Not sure about all you said, but I'm about positive Pitta will never play another down in the NFL.  Too much liability for all concerned.

If Urban and Kapron Lewis-Moore can stay healthy and then we keep 10 or so draft picks, there will be a lot of players we haven't seen getting a chance to replace (and provide depth) for the guys we've lost.

I think it's a good move for both teams - Haloti will help them replace the loss of Suh, plus he's going to a coach and D-coordinator who know him well.  We get cap space and 2 draft picks that could either be 2 good players or used to trade up for someone.

Sad to see him go but glad we got something for him. It's a shame we couldn't get an extension done though.

The FO has to think those 2 are gonna contribute this year.  Jerrigan and Williams did show they have ability but much of that was due to the guy we traded.

When Ngata was out they did not wow. With Ngata out Jerrigan did pick up 2 sacks against the worst QB defending team in the league.  The Jags let in 71 sacks last year.

We'll see.  There is some money to sign draft picks now, but we've lost some key contributors.

Do you get comp picks on trades?

Nah, just for losing free agents. I think the NFL's take is that a side already has compensation from a trade.

Seriously???

Mid-level picks?

Can we get a better return, when we decimate the team?

Very upsetting...

Actually, I'm thrilled because I anticipated we'd get possibly nothing.

Q was traded for a 6th. Players like Andre Johnson, who are quite good in their own right, couldn't even find a trade partner and were cut.

I was hoping we'd get something, but wasn't expecting more than a 5th rounder. To get a 4th and 5th is pretty solid, given other teams knew we had no choice but to move him.

Gutted to see Haloti leave, but I guess it's understandable.

I'm assuming we'll just go "next man up", but if we could pick up either Terrance Knighton or Ahtyba Rubin on a cap friendly deal, I may be a little less upset.

I suspect Knighton will get paid too much. I would rather have Wilfork between him and Rubin because he won't cost us a compensatory pick.

Any chance we land fairley? He'd be a beast on our dline

Nah, we wouldn't move on from Ngata  and then turn around and pay Fairley big bucks. Obviously the FO believes in Jernigan/Williams or we would've just paid Ngata. The whole point in trading Ngata and opening up cap room is that we already have solid options at DT on the roster. That money will be spent at TE, WR,CB, or SS.

Hmm, hadn't thought of Wilfork.

That does sound like a real possibility. Knighton is only 28, so he will probably be too expensive. Since they didn't get Suh, I can see him heading to Oakland to work once again with Jack Del Rio.

Wilfork would be great for our young guys to learn from, and he's still very effective as a space eater.

Any chance we could bring in Knighton to replace him?

I doubt it and I don't think he's versatile enough to play defensive end.
