Haloti Ngata traded to Lions

278 posts in this topic

yep, you nailed it. It did make sense for both.

Yeah it sucks to see him gone. He added a lot to the team and his interceptions helped us. At the same time, I get why he didn't want to reduce his salary so it's fine by me. Bitter sweet moment for me. It's that moment where you know it's right but it feels wrong

Well, Haloti is not a Raven anymore.  Its come down to Suggs and Flacco are about all that are left....Yanda too I guess.

Suppose this feeling is fatigue with the disloyalty to veterans.  But when management backs themselves into a corner self preservation is what takes over...who's gonna go, them for creating a tight spot or the player?...however a change sure seems in order now.

That Detroit uniform kinda has a purple hue and a pretty ferocious looking lion.

Money for Percy harvin?

But id much rather they have traded him then cut him...if they cut him..Ngata could've ended up in NE or Indy...

yeah, I miss The Beast already, but understand it's just a fact of life under the cap.

Really can't fault either party, hopefully it works out well for both.

Ngata didn't want to reduce the salary, and I don't blame him; That is the contract he signed. The Ravens realized he is not the DE they paid a few years ago, and could not afford the full 16m cap hit. At least we got something for him and have ammo heading into the draft.

well D line.  I'm also looking at DB, WR, TE and potentially RB if we don't sign anyone.

yeah but depth doesn't hurt in this league. I haven't followed much this season. I pretty much shut off football after we lost to the Patriots and they went all the way. If it was any other team outside of the Steelers I could have handled it, but ugh. So I'm way behind on all my NFL news.

defensive line is really deep, from what I've seen, as is running back. Wide receiver as a few tier one receivers and lots of tier two. Tight end is weak as anything. Corner will have some good gems the Ravens could land in round one or two

Happy with the trade, been saying for a few days now that some team will still trade for him to have a guarantee to get him. Was speculating Lions earlier this offseason if they lost Ngata. 7th + Ngata for a 4th + 5th is a solid trade - Ngata is 31, wouldn't restructure, and would have been cut if no deal was reached, very good trade.

or a team in the same division, Browns were rumored to be interested if he were cut and you have to think the Bengals would want him with how bad their DLine was last year

I'm not big on Harvin, but I completely agree with the trade. We got some picks, and like you said...how bad would it have been to see Ngata in a Patriots uniform??

All this and we are still keeping Gino crapkowski!

I agree but wasn't Gino a 3rd rounder or so . Ozzie doesn't give up that

quickly on high draft picks .

But I agree Gino stinks .

Gino was fifth rounder to my understanding. If not that then he was fourth rounder but I know he wasn't a third.

Ok who crashed the forum?

Anyways, best of luck for Ngata.

I wish Ozzie could've fleeced the 49ers or Bears for more quality picks.

If I counted correctly, of the 53 from our SB, 17 are still on the roster, 7 of which are full time starters (if you count Pitta, that's 8). :/

Seriously???

Mid-level picks?

Can we get a better return, when we decimate the team?

Very upsetting...

Bill Polian, ex-GM, believes the Lions paid a high price for Haloti. I think I'll believe Bill.

Good trade. Brandon Williams and Jernigan are ready. Opens up a desperately needed chunk of cap and gives Oz plenty of picks to play with, could prove to be good bargaining chips if we need to to trade up to get our WR. Tough losing a true Raven in Ngata but at least we got picks for him and didn't just have to cut him loose as a cap casualty. At his price he just became expendable when you look at what kind of talent Williams and Jernigan have.

It's a great trade for Detroit, they get the same type of game disrupter in the middle for less cost and part with de minimis draft picks.

Heck they even get a pick in return.  Great Job Detroit....you're rockin.

Haloti salute........stay healthy and get yourself more glory.

The Ravens have picked some very good players in the mid rounds, also gives them flexibility to trade up in the draft or package them in a deal for amother player.

Moreover, Brandon Williams is ready to take on a big role next year along with Jernigan..plus you never know who they might draft.

Rest assured, they wouldn't have made the move if they didn't have a plan in place.

Right now, with Torrey leaving your on roster options are Smith SR, Aiken,Campanaro, Brown

In place of Ngata..Williams, Jernigan

Daniels also gone, but Pitta coming back, and Gillmore who I think can be a starter

.

Getting Suggs re-structured and the trade of Ngata all in a day makes me just think that there's something cooking here
