Why Is Everyone So Luke-warm About Joe Flaco?
But it's sad that Roethlisberger's stats, as a veteran QB with a multi-million-dollar contract extension, are barely better than a rookie QB from Delaware. And Roethlisberger's supposed to be at the helm of a "better" offense than the Ravens.

Has Roethlisberger's team won more games this season? Yes -- ONE more. Has Roethlisberger led his team to victory more often than Flacco? That's debateable, especially given a lot of the lucky breaks that the Steelers had caught in the fourth quarter this season.

Regardless, as a rookie, Flacco wasn't supposed to be in the same discussion or even the same sentence as Roethlisberger this season -- but he IS. And given that people generally consider Roethlisberger to be in the Top 10 at his position, it says something when a rookie in the same division, facing the same competition with an almost identical schedule, is that close to him in performance in the same season.
I don't know for sure if the fact that Roethlisberger is a better qb then flacco is why he gets more attention, it think it's that he came in as a rookie and won a superbowl then continued to keep on winning. I think thier careers will be similar, if the defense stays together. Both are great at managing the ball while roethlisberger is alittle more feared in terms of taking over a game, flacco will get there eventually but he's not there yet, may have the ability but that doesn't necessarly means he will this year.

Big Ben did not will a Super Bowl as a rookie...he flamed out in the playoffs that year. His team was handed the Super Bowl in his second year.

Regaurdless he won the superbowl very early in his career.

This could also have to do with the way the media perceives the Ravens in general. We still do not get much respect so naturally anything Flacco does will be overlooked.

I think you hit the nail on the head--media hates us therefore they drive the agenda as to what you see and hear. Ravens could go 14-2 Flacco put up 400 yards and 3 TD's and it would be an after thought on SportsCenter and not a candidate for Fed-Ex Air and Ground Player of the week.
I think a lot of it has to do that the Ravens were not in total shambles like Atlanta was a year ago. With the Mike Vick court case and the head coach quiting on the team really put the team in disaray.

Both teams added a new coach and new rookie QB but the diffence is Flacco had the luxury of a solid defense to back him up. Ravens were not in total shambles as a team there was a solid base owners, GM and defense.
Flacco has the defense, yeah. But look at what matt ryan had. MICHAEL TURNER. Ryan had a guy who tied for second in the mvp voting. Flacco deserves equal respect to ryan.

It's a complete shame that ryan got all those votes and flacco got none.
Complete shame.

How could you say that? thats total bull. Yes the media is biased towards some teams but your defense and guys like Lewis,Reed and before this season Mcgahee are always talked about. The reason Flacco isn't talked about that much as he maybe should is A. Yes he's has a great rookie season but as a rookie he's been outshined by Ryan and B. as an NFL qb there's about 12 qbs better then him before you can even bring up Flaccos name.

I have a question. I keep hearing the media say over and over and over and over that Flacco's got that smothering defense on the other side of the bench from him, implying that basically anyone should prosper on offense on this team rather easily. I understand how that does make it somewhat easier on the offense when their defense is so dominant. But isn't this basically the same defense (personnel and coordiantor) that went 5-11 last year? If Flacco, Harbaugh, Cameron, etc. are "average," having the same benefit of the guys on defense that went 5-11 last year, shouldn't they be 5-11 this year? What am I missing guys???

I also believe it's a two sided coin. An offense that is among the tops in the league in points scored and time of possession will make it somewhat easier on the defense to do their thing much better. Back to this is a TEAM sport. Don't look to the media for the love, you have plenty of it in Baltimore and with fans throughout the country... even in Florida!!! :D

Heck even Baltimore's media dogs this team. As Ravens fans we are in a bit of a different media market then the Dolphin's, we are sandwiched between the Redskins and Eagles 45 mins one way and 90 mins the other way, so our LOCAL media covers those teams too. Tampa is what 3 hrs out and Jacksonville 4? We get no respect.

That's a great point. Growing up in Delaware, we got the tug of war with Baltimore, Washington and Philadelphia, and, yes, even sometimes with Pittsburgh.

Tampa, JAX and Miami are pretty distant from each other. You gotta realize one could fit Great Britain geographically inside of Florida. Lots of land here! Here in the Orlando area, we get kinda the same thing here that you get with the competing markets up there. None of them are more than 3.5 hrs. away.

It does look like Mike Preston is warming up some from earlier in the year, though!
Why must you continue to come to our board and post things that clearly will incite our fans. What do you expect?... immediately puts the Ravens fans on the offensive. You are welcome here if you would like to discuss football in a non-confrontational way, but all your posts that I have read on many threads just seem to intentionally incite our fans. My mom always told me "if you don;t have anything good to say, shut up". Please stop doing this or I will ask a moderator to block your inciting comments on this board.
Report away, this is a discussion board I think among mostly hardcore Raven Fans..I do not intend to incite anybody...well maybe Dolphin fans.. lol..but seriously what do you think is appropriate to discuss? Jersey color? Come on, I haven't disrespected anybody and would not...so please chill and enjoy the discussion as if between friends at the water cooler. :D

kash96ravenstotalfan wasn't referring to you and your thread; she was talking to the Dolphins fan she quoted in her post.
