Why Is Everyone So Luke-warm About Joe Flaco?

46 posts in this topic

 Ok I can understand he is a rookie...I know he has a long road of seasoning to go...but did anybody else see him acting like an all-star seasoned quarterback in the last three games? Calmly, cooly, making precise passes and standing in the pocket under blitzes that would shake seasoned fellows. Wow...what does it take to get someone to see he is not a good QB, He is on his way to being a great QB!! Just my opinion... :D

Joe needs not prove a thing to us Ravens Fans, he has already proven enough. If we loose it's not because Joe didn't play well enough, its because the TEAM didn't!

We all know what we have, that's all that matters to me.
It's actually to our advantage if he has a low profile; I want opponents to brush him aside and not realize what he is capable of.

But really, I think next year he's going to blow his cover. It's looking like he is going to break out next season, even more so if we grab him a wr or two. The NFL is going to get tired of hearing about this Bazooka Joe kid in Baltimore!

Not alot of people are going to give a Rookie alot of credit going into the playoffs.. Next year with a whole off-season and another training camp under His belt, and everyone will jump on His bandwagon.

I think a lot of it has to do that the Ravens were not in total shambles like Atlanta was a year ago. With the Mike Vick court case and the head coach quiting on the team really put the team in disaray.

Both teams added a new coach and new rookie QB but the diffence is Flacco had the luxury of a solid defense to back him up. Ravens were not in total shambles as a team there was a solid base owners, GM and defense.

Whay do you expect? Yes he's had a great season for a rookie but he's thrown for under 3,000 yards and only 2 more tds then ints. Does he need to do more for the Ravens not really but as far as being a qb he's prolly the 10th worst qb in the playoffs and an average qb overall. Again he's not expected to be amazing ( i think he eventually will be) but you cant forget he's a qb and its alot of pressure. You have him facing guys like both mannings, big bens, phillep rivers,Chad pennington this year atleast and others, guys that are seasoned vets and putting up great stats, they are obviously going to get more attention then a rookie qb, who's played well but no where near mind blowing in terms of being a qb in the NFL.

Ravens fans respect Joe. I don't think that most of our fans, or Joe, care about what the media says - or does not say - about him as an individual. I think Joe is more concerned about the TEAM. GO RAVENS

I think there are alot less people who are not giving Flacco the respect he deserves now... he has had great games all year although he started a little rough in the beginning of the year... but now he is a great

QB and is going to lead this team to alot more playoffs and hopefully some SuperBowls. 264yrds in first half of the Jags game last week

You're right, it's mainly the fact that he's a rookie. Although the counter-argument will be that people recognize other rookies around the league, Flacco's biggest difference is that he's got a superstar-filled defense and an explosive backfield surrounding him, so they assume that all he's doing is managing the game.

The other knock on Flacco will always be his Div. I-AA pedigree. No one cares about the state of Delaware, let alone the University of Delaware. No one thinks of Delaware and instantly thinks of a winning football program. So until Flacco explodes and forces everyone to take notice (which he has the chance to do this postseason, with the nation watching), then he'll remain under the radar.

And frankly, I like it that way. Let the rest of the world ignore the University of Delaware; we've produced NFL players past and present (not just Joe Flacco and Rich Gannon), we've produced the lead campaign advisors to both presidential candidates, we've produced the current Vice President-Elect, and we've produced newscasters and various members of the media. We'll just keep doing what we do. ;)

Ok, and lets see who he played, the defenses he had to face(of the top 10)-
Pitts(not once but twice)(1)
Eagles(3)
Redskins(4)
Giants(5)
Titans (7)
Cowgirls(8)

Ryan-
Eagles(3)
Bucks(twice)(9)

if you include the top 15 we have even more, so Flacco went up against 4 of the 5 best defense in the league, had a way harder schedule, and played 7 games against top 10 defenses and ryan only played 3 games against top 10, 1 top five. Plus we played 4 games of the top 15 and they played 0, so out of the top 15 we played 11 of our 16 games against top 15 d's and they played 4/16 against them.
Im not saying flacco is rookie of the year, but he led the offense to TD and offensive scoring, something we haven't had and to an average over 20 points a game, we haven't had that either, flacco is above average he showed it by doing more the any qb for the ravens

Wait..people actually live in delaware? But in all seriousness, its easy to see why they would think Flacco isnt ready, but in reality he's a rookie who has played in playoff games because division 2 has them. He has more playoff experience than Matt Ryan in that regard. Hes played in his share of big games, but they havnt been against NFL talent. I like Joe and i think hes going to do a damn good job, but you kind of have to look at it unbiasedly to see other peoples perspectives. Only 5 rookies before joe/matt have started playoff games, and only 2 of them have won them.

Why must you continue to come to our board and post things that clearly will incite our fans. What do you expect?... immediately puts the Ravens fans on the offensive. You are welcome here if you would like to discuss football in a non-confrontational way, but all your posts that I have read on many threads just seem to intentionally incite our fans. My mom always told me "if you don;t have anything good to say, shut up". Please stop doing this or I will ask a moderator to block your inciting comments on this board.

Yeah, we are talking about Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens not Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons. Why they are even apart of this conversation is beyond. Matt Ryan is his own man, just like Flacco is his own man. They dont need to be compared or linked togethere and you can mention one with the other. They are not attached at the hip.

For the record, Joe Flacco came from Div I-AA, NOT Division II football. HUGE difference. You see very few Div. II players in the NFL at all (there's actually quite a few Div. I-AA players, more than people think), and you see almost no Div. III players. You're more likely to see a Div. I-AA player get drafted or signed as free agents than Div. II or III, as well.

Div I-A (FBS) = your well-known scholarship schools that participate in a bowl championship format; USC, Michigan, Texas, Penn State, Florida, Maryland, etc.
Div I-AA (FCS) = schools a step-down financially that aren't as dependent on scholarships, and use a playoff championship tournament format; Delaware, William & Mary, Alcorn State, Appalachian State, Richmond, etc.

Div II = much smaller public and private institutions with a smaller emphasis on their sports, and much fewer athletic scholarships; Tuskegee, Seton Hill, St. Joseph's, Midwestern State, Bowie State, etc.

Div III = no athletic scholarships whatsoever; Albright, Monmouth, Northwestern, Wesley, Rochester, etc.

Salisbury University. Dont forget that football powerhouse. LOL. JK. We had a guy get signed by the Redskins as an unrestricted free agent but I almost certain its because he was Brian Westbrook's little brother.

Yes but he managed games, not took them over, he hasn't thrown for over 300 yards yet. You can't expect Flacco to get attention during playoff time, yes he's good but him and Ryan are both prolly tied for the 10th out of the 12 qbs in the playoffs (Tarvaris Jackson is the 11th). Thats not taking anything away from them as the are both great rookies but in the end they are average- above average qbs this year in the NFL.

on a side note- personally i think Ryan will regress while Flacco will continue to be an above average qb, don't think he'll reach legend status but a solid 10-15 ranked qb for the next 10 years.

Does it really matter if he throws for 300yds? Its called clock management...If you can't stop the running game, then why throw it up. Flacco has one of the strongest arms in NFL. The Ravens are one of the best teams to control the clock.

Plus if you have a QB throwing for 300yrds over 40 attempts, that pretty much means your team is behind and need to get points fast.

Flacco's flirted with the 300-yard mark five times this season, and is 4-1 in doing so. He was only three yards shy of 300 in Week 17, and was only 29 yards away from 3,000 for the season.

If Flacco is above-average, then I'll certainly take it. Better than being average or below-average.

With a supporting cast like this, Flacco doesn't need to be anything more than above-average. BUT...in the 16 games we've seen thus far, he's shown signs that he could be better than just that.

But it's sad that Roethlisberger's stats, as a veteran QB with a multi-million-dollar contract extension, are barely better than a rookie QB from Delaware. And Roethlisberger's supposed to be at the helm of a "better" offense than the Ravens.

Has Roethlisberger's team won more games this season? Yes -- ONE more. Has Roethlisberger led his team to victory more often than Flacco? That's debateable, especially given a lot of the lucky breaks that the Steelers had caught in the fourth quarter this season.

Regardless, as a rookie, Flacco wasn't supposed to be in the same discussion or even the same sentence as Roethlisberger this season -- but he IS. And given that people generally consider Roethlisberger to be in the Top 10 at his position, it says something when a rookie in the same division, facing the same competition with an almost identical schedule, is that close to him in performance in the same season.

Media doesn't care if Flacco throws for 300yrds a game. He doesn't get much attention because he plays on a team that relys on its defense. Plus he's a ROOKIE!

I don't live outside of MD, so I have no idea how much attention he gets outside. I only listen to local TV and Radio sports shows(Mainly 105.7). He gets plenty of attention around Baltimore, so I don't think I care how much attention he gets outside of Baltimore/Maryland.

Umm yes they do.... If Flacco threw for 4,000 yards and 25 tds with 8 ints you don't think he'd get more attention then if he threw for 3,000 with 14 tds and 12 ints no matter what team he plays for.
