Could Aiken and/or Brown fill in for Torrey?

alrdick robinson had the same rating as J Jones in madden 15 and was faster... if that means anything lol  :banana1:

think he was a slightly better route runner as well lmao

Eddie Royal was one of my guys in FA a while back, I'd love to see us get him. Pair him up with Strong and we got a good group, then again I got high hopes in Camp and I think F.O does as well.

aiken and brown seems to be untapped gems. they seemed to be underutlized and overlooked at times. flacco has to learn to trust these receivers and lead them into a catch to gain yards after the catch. with torrey, it seemed joe only looked for him on go routes and couldn't get his timing adjusted the defense hit smith coming off the line. aiken and brown played a more physical and at times were open but was not noticed as joe either didn't check down far enough or just didn't see them. i site the colts game, as flacco seemed to look only for his favorites.

so, yes, these two young men can stretch the field  and fill the void that was left.

they don't have his speed but they can catch most of the time. Flacco needs a home run hitter though. I mean Steve still has some quickness, but the way Flacco likes to go deep you need at least 11 more burner.

And our tight end situation could be better

aiken and brown are hyped too much by our fanbase. they cant replace torrey specifically because they cant offer what torrey did, but the real issue is they likely couldnt replicate a fraction of torreys production. aiken has the potential to be a passable #2 and a solid #3, but the #2 is a longshot and having him as the #1 will be a serious hindrance to the offense. brown has a tall frame, but doesnt know how to win matchups, he cant get open against man coverage, he cant find the soft spots in zone coverage, he cant box out defenders or highpoint contested catches like you would expect a 6'5" receiver to do, his potential has been realized and i hate to break it to ya, his potential isnt very high. coming in under the radar and catching 7 td's as a UDFA is impressive and all, but nobody even knew who brown was and we had no wr's and no effective TE or run game, he was force fed the ball when teams would put all their focus on torrey and marlon brown was left alone in the endzone quite often, now that he actually has to use NFL level tactics to beat NFL level players, he is falling short. a few key 3rd down conversions late in the season is all he really did this year, and those were because plays were designed to get him open as the surprise target and catch the defense off guard, he had a few nice YAC's to get a clutch first down but you can get that from anyone who is 6 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier than most of the db's. wr needs to be addressed in the draft AND free agency, otherwise everyone will finally get to see just how bad marlon brown actually is, no offense to him, but he isnt even close to the answer.

Yikes. Some are saying Aiken's a #1...Camp's a #2. This is definitely the off season.

Actually, I don't think they are saying they are. I think they are saying they want them to be handed the opportunity to do that.

Problem is, as I've pointed out to them several times, being wrong in this instance can lead to some serious ramifications for the entire franchise.

TBH, I think Camp should get better consideration for PT than Brown, I don't know about Aiken but Camp would've look like a serious pick up if he wasn't injured

Torrey's role was to stretch the field and get PI calls. Kamar and Marlon aren't fast, therefore no.

A guy who can stretch the defense is important, but if that is all he can do then he is useless.  So many games where Torrey just disappeared.  He was only getting better and at times showed he could be a legitimate threat in the middle as well.

If we need to get a guy who can go deep, I would hope he can be productive on short and intermediate routes as well.  Looking at the DeSean Jackson type who was quick and fast, not another Torrey who was a long strider and struggled to get open when not going deep.

This has to be the plan. Get a veteran for opposite Steve and have Camp play slot all season long. If it's not I'll be flabbergasted.

I think it's more likely we have a rookie opposite of Steve than a vet, it will be hard for us to outbid teams. I think Camp will be our slot, leaning towards Jaelen Strong, and Steve Smith Sr.

I don't know why people say you can't replace Torrey because they're not as fast.

These receivers have their own skill sets, they are arguably better route runners and pass catchers. Those receivers could very well be better for the system we operate. Oftentimes, Torrey looked out of place because he didn't fit the prototypical skill set for our system.

Right priced underrated veteran and the draft.

I like Andre Johnson or Dwayne Bowe the most to pair with Steve Smith. Draft someone to be Flacco's number 1 in the near future

Not Bowe. He is to inconsistent

I hope that Marlon Brown steps up big this year. I also hope we draft Jaelen Strong. #1 Strong, #2 Steve, #3 Brown, #4/#5 Campanero and Aiken

I totally agree with you on Strong

I saw a few mock drafts and those "experts" had him drafted four picks ahead of us by Arizona.  It's not to say the pick is in concrete  The Raven Management has to want him like the fan base does.  I really want him as well..  His highllights stun the common fans and confirm those who want a young A.Boldin

Arizona doesn't make sense. They have Fitz, Floyd and Brown, all who are explosive playmakers, I don't think WR is a primary need. I think they go elsewhere.

Aiken is pretty fast......timed in anywhere from 4.4 to 4.56

Problem is Torrey was faster than any of his Combine times.

Marlon Brown was injured for his combine.

For now, Aiken inherits the field stretcher role, but we probably need more.

I know but thats what 6 figure salary experts do for a living.  Believe me, I hope we stock up on O players with special interest in Strong.

We really need a receiver who can get down field since Torrey has gone.

It feels a bit of a waste of Flacco's big arm if we don't get a true deep threat.

I'm expecting us to pick up a speedy receiver early in the draft, but looking at the available free agents, the guy who interests me is Hakeem Nicks.

He can get down field, and is strong enough to make contested catches. He hasn't been the same since the 2011, but that does mean he wouldn't cost the earth. Looking at Trestman's offense in Chicago, I can see Nicks performing similarly to Marshall/Jeffrey.

The only other option I can see is Percy Harvin. He's clearly a hugely talented guy, and he would fit what we need from a receiver perfectly. Unfortunately, I just can't see us targeting him - he's just too much of a headache to deal with.

We need 5 WRs on the roster so let Brown, Aiken, Camp, Butler and Messrs X,Y& Z compete with SSSr. in the pre-season and may the best men win. Draft some competition and let the fun begin. Hopefully someone steps up and is an upgrade over Torrey.

Considering we won 4 playoff games and went to the AFCCG without Torrey, I think we'll be okay in replacing him.  I don't think it will be Aiken and Brown though - to replace Torrey we need a guy with speed to stretch the field, which only SSS seems to be able to do among our receivers.

I'd definitely like to see more out of Marlon Brown and think he could have a big impact in Marc Trestmans big receiver friendly scheme. Aiken definitely showed promise all over the field last year too.

I have been a huge fan of Hakeem Nicks since he was a 1st rounder in 2009. He looked like a brick solid #1 for the Giants. Even though he had injury concerns, when he was out there he could do it all and worked well as a deep threat and a possession receiver. He had injury concerns and then the Giants started shopping him and it seemed to me like he lost motivation to play. He went to Indy last year and I thought he would go off (barring injuries) but ended up getting buried on the depth chart and didn't do much. For someone as good as Nicks was I just can't blame his decline on injuries, although I'm pretty sure he had a foot surgery but nothing over the top, I just feel like he may have lost the motivation to play. I would love to give him a shot to see if he could get back into his all pro form but not sure if Ozzie would do so.

For everyone clamoring for Marlon Brown...

He can't produce if he's not on the field.  And last time I checked, Harbaugh has him in the doghouse for god knows what reason!  Harbaugh is pretty stubborn, so I don't anticipate Marlon even getting a chance.

Marlon was losing snaps last year to rookie receivers, tight ends, and running backs.  On crucial downs.  It was pretty pathetic.

With that said... I think Marlon Brown and Kamar Aiken definitely could win the Ravens games if used correctly by the coaches and QB.

Also, I'm actually happy Owen Daniels left because I think Crockett Gilmore can be a really good TE in the league.

Drafting or signing receivers before they fix the secondary would be a really bad move.

The coaches must have a lot of confidence in this lot of receivers we have, Marlon, Aiken, Butler and Campanaro. Who knows we may actually end up not acquiring any receiver in free agency right now, but wait till the draft is over and get into training camp to see how they do.
