Joe Flacco 29th ranked mobile QB in the league?

52 posts in this topic

Here, let's give this nincompoop David Gomes some clicks on his article because his article is absolutely ill founded, wrong and in fact makes me livid. He claims Joe Flacco is the 4th worst QB in the league in terms of mobility. Are you kidding me or has this guy ever watched Flacco play? How is Brady more mobile than Flacco ever??

Here is the link to the article:

Not going to get too fired up over some nobody's opinion, never heard of that cover32 site. No, Flacco shouldn't be below guys like Rivers and Brady, but I'm not too worried about it. Sounds like that guy barely watches the games, basing most of it off of running statistics.

It's the offseason, this won't be the stupidest article I'll read...

Flacco's mobility has been underrated his entire career.  Still remember his TD run against the Bengals in his first career game.

The writers' reasoning: "Flacco likes to stand tall in the pocket and throw darts. He’s not a guy who wants to run around. At most, he’ll slide around a bit to buy some time. But for the most part, he’s an old-school passer."

His reasoning is fair and somewhat accurate, yet his ranking is wrong if you ask me. Flacco is more of an old-school passer who really doesn't like to move around unless he has to. What the writer misses, though, is that Flacco is great on the move.

Why would I give a "nincompoop" a click?

It is just fashionable to. They thrive with clicks and we have stuff to criticize and bemoan frequently.

Yup that run right there is why I don't underestimate Flacco's mobility. I also remember him making quite a few plays on the run in the Super Bowl

The TD run against the Bengals was cool but he made an outstanding mobile play in 2013 against the Browns.

They were near the goal-line and Flacco rolled to his right, looking for an open target. He had to hold the ball a long time because, hey, our offense sucked and kept drifting to the sideline, buying time as their pass rush wore down on our bad OL. Finally, about a foot from the sideline, he shoots a pass to the back of the endzone to hit Dallas Clark for a TD.

Boom, TD on 3rd and 1 after Rice and Leach couldn't score on 2 tries from the 5.

Also the innumerable amount of times he's evaded pressure behind the line.

I still remember the colts game last year where he outran the OLB's and almost made an amazing throw to Marlon Brown

He wasn't mobile last year as he didn't need to be. He could of had lunch back there with the amount of time the line gave him. They don't take that into consideration. Who was the most mobile? Krapernick? Bridgewater? RGKNEE?

flaccos mobility behind the line of scrimmage is near tops in the league, he is reminiscent of 08-09 roethlisberger, only he doesnt get hurt every season because of it. he doesnt take off downfield and isnt a read option qb, but he does a great job avoiding pressure and really delivers beautiful throws on the run, the throws he makes when he is rolling out all the way to the sideline lead to a td or a huge gain quite often. it is the single biggest improvement he has made in the NFL, as a youngster he was very bad at evading pressure and had almost no awareness of his backside, while speedrushers running free to the blindside is always a recipe for disaster, he seemed very prone to being the victim of these plays, but he has improved greatly and since his super bowl run he has been one of the best at scrambling and extending the play

oh and not to mention, cover32 has a deep, DEEP, hatred for the ravens, i have not once seen a ravens article from them that gives any sort of praise and/or actual knowledge about the team.

The man ran and caught a pass from the "Troy Smith". He's not the most mobile but he sure as hell isn't 29th. Ryan and Brady being ahead of him is comical.

Does the article factor in pocket awareness and ability to shift within the pocket?

Flacco isn't the greatest at that.. Not 29th but not the greatest

Ha that play was crazy, if only he hadn't fallen down on the catch

Joe isn't an explosive runner with speed burst!  He climbs and builds up speed slowly due to his tall frame but when he gets his speed up and gains that momentum he can be dangerous on the run.

Considering how many times every single week we see Flacco extend plays with his feet -- which is the primary reason mobility is an asset for a QB -- it's clear it is another uneducated article...but meh, who cares

The author of that joke of an article must not have watched the Ravens in 2013, when Joe was running constantly for his life behind that horrendous pass protection. The reason the Ravens were still in playoff contention till the end was in large part due to Flacco's ability to improvise and extend plays. It wasn't until Joe injured his knee in Detroit that the Ravens were truly done, because without that mobility, the offense was truly done as well.

Im not worried about mobile stats.  While being mobile helps here and there, if your offense is good enough you don't need a mobile quarterback.

joe flacco has excellent mobility though. thats what the argument is about, he is absolutely one of the very best at extending plays behind the line of scrimmage and throwing on the run
