CBS' Ridiculous Future Power Rankings for the Ravens

53 posts in this topic

I wouldn't read too much into it. It looks like a lighter-hearted piece to read, share and discuss on the internet. I wouldn't take the "2012 playoff run was an aberration" any more seriously than the bit about Marcus Mariota becoming the next big thing (much less actually being the first overall pick) or Ndamokung Suh becoming a trillionaire.

To sum it up in two words: offseason filler.

Stupid article. Never heard of this guy and he probably has no more expertise than the average serious fan. Particularly stupid comments about Joe's abilities. CBS must be out of off season fluff to dig up this nonsense.

I love how they say "CJ Mosley not withstanding, we haven't hit on a 1st round pick in a decade". Why CJ Mosley notwithstanding? Is he not on the roster and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie? Love how they need to use that to further their point, terrible writing.

Further, if we're talking about 1st rounders in the last decade I'm sure a lot of teams would say a SB MVP QB and a perennial All-Pro in Ngata would be 'decent' picks.

It's crazy that quite a few analyst and "reporters" actually believe that 2012 for Flacco is a fluke. That's why I hope Joe wins at least two more rings.  At LEAST two more.

Wow, number 24. Really?

Let's put this article in perspective.

For one it is supposedly the "NFL Power Rankings from Feb. 26, 2017"

6. Buccaneers

7. LA Rams

8. Bills

9. Jaguars

10. Vikings

11. Giants

17. Raiders

18. Patriots

LOL, this article has to be a joke.

The Breakdown: Brad Gagnon is the Justin Beaver of Sportswriters

No fear. I don't think this article even qualifies in the 'The Whole World Hates the Ravens' rant/myth category. We're talking about a green up-and=coming media personality who truly doesn't have a grasp on reporting football. He's simply a Canadian blogger gone sports-commentator. The Justin Beaver thing is what a lot of his readers seem to think of him. I've never followed him enough to have a strong opinion on him.

This 'Power Ranking' is apparently the most challenging assignment he's ever had. 75% of everything he's ever reported on was strictly NFC East related and the majority of those articles were predominately quoted or directly referenced from more accomplished writers' articles. He's trying to make his mark, but he's not there yet. To add, this guy has only covered the Ravens 1 or 2 times in his life. Give him a little time to get it right. It seems like the majority of his bloggers think he's a 'hack', 'idiot' or '???' but only time will tell.

Good luck to this dude. It's a rough business.

I'm wondering what his definition of "hit" is in terms of a first round draft pick. Somehow our 2008 first round draft pick who carried us to the Super Bowl in 2012, is a bust because he had a low QB rating the past three years? What a joke. He must have wrote this before Josh McCown signed with the Browns because apparently the Bears signed McCown and not the Browns.

I did  not read all the teams, but this guy is really pulling random guesses and water cooler chatter out of his pants.

It wasnt JUST the RAVENS he completely misconstrues, and insults.

The dude has the "Los Angeles Rams"  at #7. It's a garbage article that's not meant to be taken seriously.

But don't you know, that "Among quarterbacks who started at least 40 regular-season games between 2011 and 2014 Flacco had the league's worst passer rating,"? Joe had the best playoff passer rating of any QB in 2014, but please ignore that. -_-

Well... to be fair to him... because the article is suppose to predict rankings in 2017, the Rams will most likely be moved to LA by then.

In 2017 Flacco sucks and we haven't hit on a 1st round pick in a decade. So that means in 2014, Flacco also sucks and we haven't hit on a 1st round pick in 7 years. Boy, we must've been awful!

At least the guy is an equal opportunity savant. He equally misrepresented a lot of teams just as much as the Ravens.

John Harbaugh can't wait to put this article into a golden frame and hang it in the meeting room.  They need some sparks to win it all and it's not bad to have ppl hatin' on us....

This article is too good. It's not just the Ravens either. How are the Steeler gonna be so good, especially since Big Ben will be gone by then? Bucs at 6? What are you smoking? Rams, Bills, and Jags as playoff teams teams? And they still put Matt Ryan above Flacco.

But the best comment of all:

"C.J. Mosley notwithstanding, they haven't truly hit on a first-round pick in about a decade. Safe to say they're rebuilding."

Only:

Haloti Ngata

Jimmy Smith

Joe Flacco

Ben Grubbs

and three of those year we didn't have a first round pick. Granted, Mark Clayton and Elam so far are first round busts

Also:

"The Ravens were never going to pay him the ridiculous amount of back-loaded money on that monster deal he signed in 2013, and they're now moving on to younger, less proven options." I guess we are drafting a new QB guys!

Johnny football is ready for a breakout career (after he breaks out of rehab). Perhaps Cleveland would accept a less than elite Joe Flacco in a QB swap. :)

Coincidentally, I tried to watch the same movie last night, but couldn't finish it. I didn't find it entertaining or funny. However, I really liked the first one.
