...shouldn't Gradkowski and McClellan be on the clock?  Why Gino lasted longer than JJ is beyond me.

Still two weeks left to do these things...

Its not a race to see who gets released first, and I doubt they do it in order by who they like the least...

Good questions. McClellan, I think, is a good ST, but don't know if he's worth what he's getting and Gino might be gone soon. Not sure about the savings, cap wise. Maybe save more cutting them after June 1st, or just waiting to see how the draft turns out before moves are made.

Also, Jacoby might have been done early so he has more time to find a team to pick him up. They might have done it somewhat out of respect.

I'm pretty certain the FO already knows who's getting cut, so why wait?

Why not wait? The only people that benefit from that is the players themselves, and they may already know anyway.

Besides that, I don't buy that the FO already knows. I think they know there's a handful of players they will release, but there's players (like McClellan for example) who could stick around if certain things happen, such as a Ngata/Yanda/Webb contract change.

I would hope they would do this w/ all of the players the cut.

Ravens rarely cut players still on their rookie contracts. They're cheap backups if nothing else.

The Ravens can get an undrafted rookie that offers the same OL depth as Gino and save them about $300k.

Depends. That person wouldn't have the same experience, and wouldn't know the system either.

I'm not even suggesting Gino won't get cut, because I think he will. But again, I have no idea what this fascination is with cutting them now. It literally doesn't matter if its now or two weeks from now.

You can say that about ANY and all rookies.

Correct, except most of them would be draft picks with perceived talent.

Bringing in an UDFA just for the heck of it to replace somebody who already has experience isn't exactly something that figure to payoff much in the long run.

Gino got an escalator on his rookie deal, so he's almost assuredly going to be cut because of that. I think that we want to keep McClellan, so the decision on Albert comes from the fact that we need to see who else we can keep. I think it's possible we ask him to take a paycut similar to what happened with Jameel McClain the last year he was here in Baltimore.

I thought that too until I read Hensley article which point out that Gino gets a contract escalator. Because the games he started in the previous season. Which pushes his salary up to 1.695M according to him cutting Gino would save about 1.574M. For a player thats not getting used at all. Urshel could fill the void as backup center and backup Guard.

In that case, he may well be a camp cut. If someone cheaper beats him out, he's gone. On the other hand, he might get cut next week. Ozzie is not always predictable.

Gino is a 2nd string player. Jacoby was a 6th string Receiver and had butterfingers on returns. And at the end of the day...its about the MOOLA!

But a 1st string kick returner, who contributed more in 1 quarter than Gino did all season.  But agreed it's all about the moola!

i don't agree with cutting Gino honestly, if one of our interior linemen get hurt than we have urschel to step in, but if another interior guy gets hurt, say, KO and zuttah are hurt, then urschel likely takes over at center without us skipping a beat, but what do we do for KO's spot? at least Gino has been here and has played in the pros before, and we dont get any major savings for releasing him, if we were freeing up 1-2mil for cutting him than by all means do it, but i think he is worth the less than 1mil as an insurance policy, now if we find someone better for the same price or less to provide that depth, than byebye Gino, but for now i wouldnt mind keeping him.

i didnt know this, so i retract my previous statement, i think the ravens need to pursue a cheaper depth option.

i thought he was under a typical late round rookie backup deal that keeps his cap hit under 1mil.

One thing that still gets me is if we cut players after June 1st we get more cap space. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) I don't get this cap crap at all! If nothing else fix this mess so we, the fans, know where we stand. A lot of it is our money and I'd like to know . Do we even matter Rodger? Rodger?

They did it as a gesture to jacoby.  Also I think if you look at the 2016 cap it takes more off, and that cap is going to be crazy.

No, we'd get more cap space in 2015 at the expense of losing that cap space in 2016.  The cap hit we take is still the same - the post-June first designation just determines whether or not the cap hit will count for the current league year (all cuts up to June first) or the next league year (all cuts after June first).   Basically we're talking about the bonus money - when you cut a player, all of his bonus money gets put on to your cap for THAT season.  So if you have a guy making a base of one million a year for 2 years, with 2 million in bonus, when you cut him you've lost a total of 4 million dollars charged to your cap (base plus bonus) the difference when you cut him is whether the 3 million hit (1 million plus all of the bonus money) is put on the first year or the second year. The amount of cap space lost is the same, the difference is which league year the bonus hit goes into effect.

We owed him that much, and yes, crazy might be an understatement. Thank you!

All of what you say here plus the fact that our OTs were injured last year leads me to believe an OT/G will be selected early in this years draft. The top DE/OLBs, WRs, DBs will be gone by pick 26 but a high-quality o-lineman may be hard for Ozzie to resist as bpa. No better way to keep the offense humming than to keep the RB holes open and the QB upright.

After all, the draft is not so much about filling todays needs as it is about anticipation and building for the future.

we have a very very solid starting offensive line and urschel who could easily fill a void if someone were to go down. i don't think this is the right draft to go OL... O lineman have been proven more likely to be plug and play as rookies vs other positions... I just really hope OL doesn't go at 26... we are a few missing pieces from a Super Bowl and OL isn't a missing piece.

the class doesnt seem to be loaded with OL talent though, otherwise id be on board with it 100%. although if were looking for depth then i wouldnt necessarily spend a high pick on it, unless a la'el collins or brandon scherff miraculously fell to our 26th pick, which wont happen. i think we will be able to find some kind of depth in the 5th round or later, or possibly with our projected 4th round comp pick.

Why cut players before the draft and tip the organization's draft needs? That is silly. The Ravens plan to win, not worry about letting fans know where they stand with players.

I completely disagree. This class has great talent at center and interior OL at guard. Tackles are a bit ho-hum and will probably be overdrafted.

It's the system. Why? You know as much as I do but there must be money in Rodgers pocket and out of ours. Like you said before the draft? Every other team already has an idea what the teams ahead of them need so..... Just glad you're on our side! If you figure this out share it with all of us, but Rog will be Rog! Go Ravens!!!
