Marc Trestmans Offense playtape

The offense just calls for more under center work, for many reasons:

1. The west coast is all about timing, and sometimes it's easier to develop timing with receivers when you actually get the snap, take one, two, three steps and throw.

2. Kubiak's offense was so efficient because it's balanced. Playing under center makes it harder for the defense to anticipate pass or run. In the gun, you can bet it's a pass, which leads me to point three...

3. Why use the gun if you don't have to? Ultimately, the gun was created to put more space between the QB and the pass rush. Our offensive line was stout just about all season. There was no good reason to go in the gun. It's also not like we had a statue at QB. We have a guy that can move.

If the offensive line is balling out, and if the run game is good, there are few scenarios where it makes sense to use the gun. Kubiak only used the gun in 3rd and long situations and in situations where we absolutely needed to pass. Simply put, the shotgun is only needed in passing situations and when the oline is bad.

That makes sense

think Flacco might be comfortable with this system ;)

Genuinely surprised to see so many option plays in there!

I'm not expecting Joe to scamper around like Russell Wilson but have we run an option play at all since he has been here?

We got stuck near the goal-line a number of times early on in the season. It might have been something different to try other than sneak after sneak after sneak.. Or was Kubes saving that play for the superbowl?
