Arthur Brown at OLB? (speculation)

178 posts in this topic

he would have to been pro bowl good to get on the field lol

mosley was a pro bowler and daryl smith wasent really that much worse , so it was a very uphill battle to steal snaps from them.

he would have been starting if we did not draft mosley since his rookie showed promise.

sometimes you can be good and still not play , simply because the guys infront of you are better.

I think Brown is still very much in our plans. I think we might see more of him this year. I just have this feeling.

I agree. I will be very interested to see if he gained some weight over the last year. Its ridiculous to think a guy we traded up for in the 2nd round not long ago isn't in the plans. Sometimes its a luxury to be able to develop a guy for a year or 2.

Arthur brown and Cj mosely starting would be cool 2 roving LB's

I think we'll see Art challenge Smith for reps during training camp and begin to take over mid-season.

That would make our defense more athletic than it's been in a long, long time.

I was optimistic for Arthur Brown. 2 full seasons not much playing time, not even special teams.... Has me remembering how he couldn't get PT at the U although he was our top recruit. Sean spence and others out played, then he transferred back home to Kansas and went to K-state and became a tackling machine.

Randy Shannon probably had something to do with that, in addition to others outplaying him.

I hate when the coaches don't even attempt to put players on the field. Its like you don't know what you have. By letting him make some plays on Sunday you increase his confidence and desire to be better. By just letting him rot every week your killing his ego and that would be good outside of football, but in the NFL you need an Ego as well as confidence.

Its official, if Arthur shows he's got it then he'll see the field.

I assume Ozzie wants him to sub in and give Daryl a breather

In the call with the season ticket holders, Ozzie and Harbaugh said that Arthur needs to find his way on the field, but also mentioned it's difficult when the 2 guys in front of him are CJ Mosley and Daryl Smith.

“Arthur Brown is another young man who, at this point of his career, needs to find a way to get to the field,” Newsome said. “When you’ve got C.J. Mosleyicon-article-link.gif and Daryl Smithicon-article-link.gif both playing at a very high level, it’s hard for someone like Arthur to get to the field.

“If those guys [brown and Elam] put forth the effort and show the improvement that we think they should show, then both of them will get a chance to be on the field this year.”

For a team that values picks, we gave up a 3 valuable picks, a 2nd, a fifth, and 6th, to get this guy. We obviously had plans for him, and wanted him badly. He was a tackling machine in college, with 100 plus tackles in both junior and senior seasons.

Are you telling me we dont have anywhere to put thins guy? It almost sounds like he pissed off the wrong person, and is in a doghouse of some sort.

What is the real deal here? Anybody gave the skinny? Otherwise, is there someone working with him to get this NFL thing down, to get his talent on the field? Otherwise, why not just cut bait?

It bothers he he hasn't done anything, but I'll say this much: I doubt we envisioned taking Mosley but also couldn't pass on him either. Mosley played very well, and Smith played ok and then heated up and got better as the season progressed. It's hard to take Smith off the field considering that Mosley was a rookie even if he played above that. You don't want Arthur Brown and Mosley at ILB with no veteran experience.

With that said, he should make some kind of impact this year. He needs to see the field. If he can contribute on ST, that'll go a long way.

I would like to see us working Brown next to Mosely on 0lays this year, see how it goes. Wirst case, hes a bust, and we find out now. Best case, he rocks, and competes with Smith for playing time, which would be a good problem to have.

Maybe we could try to get Arthur Brown more involved in the coverage game. He is pretty athletic and is a former safety so maybe putting him in those kinds of situations could see him contribute.

Yeah, I will take that, 3rd down package at least. Being in the system for 3 years now, should give him some confidence, just needs some PT to get going

Normally I would say yes but Smith brings too much to the field right now to take him off.  He can still cover the HB while Mosley covers the TE.  Smith is too valuable right now to take off.

Harbaugh mentioned it as an underrated need, so I wasn't terribly surprised.

True but Arthur Brown is still a player The Ravens traded up for in the second round. You got to give your second highest investment from the 2013 draft playing time some kind of way.

Someone mentioned Brown as a SS. It's not the craziest thing (but close to it). If he can't keep weight on, let him drop 20lb and see how he does. Kam Chancellor is over 230lb. (of course kam is 6'3")

The main thing with Arthur Brown is he's abysmal on special teams.  He almost gave up 2 blocked punts in one season.

Also he'd be dynamite on a 4-3 team

I don't see Arthur Brown making the 53 man roster this year unless something changes and he makes himself valuable either on special teams or picks up our defense and plays like we drafted him to. But, after the past couple of years I don't see that happening.

LOL there is absolutely no way Brown is cut this year.
