Arthur Brown at OLB? (speculation)

Perhaps, but doesn't that mean he's also unproven?

We've also seen very little of Tyrod Taylor, but to your own admission, that doesn't mean he can't play.

But it did mean he couldn't play well enough to play.

Of course!  But, we're talking about Arthur Brown not Tyrod who is now a Bill.  I never said Brown couldn't play, I asked why are people constantly calling for him when we've seen very little of him?  And to be honest, why hasn't he been able to battle his way into the starting lineup?  That's all I'm asking.

True! That's why I mentioned what I did in my post and yet, Tyrod (since you brought him into this) would NEVER get an opportunity to see the field cause Joe is so durable. Umm...why hasn't Brown been able to battle his way onto the field and yet people are in here constantly calling for him? Just wondering.

Maybe because that CJ Mosley guy and that Daryl Smith guy are both really good players? I mean unless you want to say they are scrubs or something that is no different than the situation Tyrod went through with us

^ Zing that!

Mosley and Smith were both very durable this year. I'm sure if they missed a game he would've been activated and played. He played quite a bit in 2013.

Just watching his highlight videos again on YouTube and I am so confused. Dude was a beast. What the hell happened?

I get a lot of flack for this but I think it maybe an effort/desire issue with him. I say that because he showed up at 228 pounds his rookie year knowing he is going to play in a 34 defense. His skill set (speedy undersized LB) should make him a special teams machine and he isn't getting in any time there. I remember him saying he never was a big fan of the game itself growing up (a reporter asked him a question setting up the easy "Im so pumped to replace my idol ray lewis" answer and he said he never really watched football growing up.) He may just be burnt out.

did you guys miss his rookie season in 2013?

he played snaps in sub packages being an inside blitzer or being in coverage.

he was basically sharing snaps with McClain and Bynes besides Daryl Smith.

2014 we drafted Mosley who was a 3 down MLB just like Daryl Smith which just lead to Brown not seeing snaps.

Also both have been durable as well.

Im Smith looses a snap or either he and mosley get injured chances are brown will see snaps.

Its just a case of our BPA approach got us  2 young players and 1 veteran for 2 positions and the best 2 are playing.

not really a knock on brown.

only knock you can have on him is that he cant play on special teams.

I have nothing against Brown was just wondering about him cause I'm not really sold on him as most.  I'll be watching for him though.

Heading into training camp. ILB spot was for Arthur Brown's to lose, and he got beat immediately by C.J. If he can't beat C.J or Daryl out, then there's nothing that you can say about him getting PT. I mean, that's what camp, OTAs, and Preseason is about. Maybe he can win back the job from Smith. But as far as that goes, I don't know where you put him honestly out side of ILB.

I do not agree with that, you don't spend the 16th overall pick on a player that won't start immediately. They can hee-haw all they want about it being a competition but it was Mosley's job to lose not Arthurs, I am not saying it turned out bad, though.

Seems reasonable to me. I mean, how could anybody be "sold on him"? Too early to call him a bust, but, considering where he was picked, how could he be thought of as anything other than a disappointment so far?

I think people also underrate Daryl Smith. Daryl Smith is keeping Brown on the bench because he's playing at an insanely high level late in his career, but is still underrated league-wide enough to not demand a crazy salary. Once he breaks down, Brown will step right in. Honestly I think it'll workout for everyone because Brown was too small coming in anyway.

It would definitely be nice to see Arthur Brown find a complimentary role somewhere on defense next year whether its inside or outside backer.

Well obviously they wouldn't want their first round pick wasted, but Brown had the experience, he lost out to Daryl, and C.J just came and took it away. I know what you mean, CJ wasn't draft to be a back up. I think it was recalled he was beaten out pretty quickly which was what my main point is, he had the job, but was beaten out in a hurry by C.J.

I don't exactly remember, but I'd be shocked if anyone said it was Brown's job to lose over Mosley, who many considered a top 10, possibly top 5, talent

Brown came in the league I believe at around 227sh. Even with putting on weight, he still didn't crack 235 lbs. Mosley played at about 238-240 Lbs.

Quoting the Sun, "At 6 feet, 231 pounds, Brown has gained six pounds from his rookie year while maintaining his 4.58 speed in the 40-yard dash."

Yea Brown can stand to add some weight for sure. 5-7 pounds and even if he drops a little in speed what he'll make up in strength will make him a much more effective NFL linebacker.

He has to put on a decent amount of weight, or he will never come close to the field. That being said, I could see him making it into the rotation if he can put on some weight.

Arthur Brown is at 235 in this article which was training camp prior to this season.

"Brown came into the NFL a bit undersized for an inside linebacker. He said he ended last season weighing about 228 pounds. Coaches instructed Brown to add some bulk this offseason, and he’s now tipping the scales at 235 pounds. It’s only a seven-pound difference, but it’s all muscle and it shows."

Nice to see.

I still believe in his potential. Hopefully he sees the field a lot more next season. It's going to be hard with CJ & Daryl in front of him, but more on passing situations. It would be so lovely having him help replace the interior pressure we lost in McPhee. Something Brown has shown he can do very well in college.

That's still fairly light for a 3-4 MLB.

It would be nice to see him play ANYWHERE. We invested a 2nd rounder - a pick we even traded up for, to get a guy who has contributed a great big zero over the course of 2 solid years.

The dream scenario has been that he'd be ready to fill the slot taken by D. Smith .. but when? Certainly not this year - perhaps in 2016? It is hard to envision that happening if we roll with him in 2015 like we did in 2014. How can you be in line for a starting role when you don't see live football for even a single snap?

I really am hoping he isn't the 2013 draft's version of Jah Reid (only worse, given he was taken a full-round earlier).

I completely agree with you   What you see is what you get and we had seen any of his talents no matter if it is a 3-4 or 4-3 defense

The real problem is that Brown has almost exclusive expereince in a 4-3 scheme and doesn't have a 3-4 body. I feel the failure is a bit more forcing him to try to be something he isn't more than he flat out sucks.

I see it now. He finally gets Pt on his contract year. Plays at a pro Bowl level, and gets top dollar else where
