NFL Integrity Investigations

21 posts in this topic

Once again, here's the difference that tells a great deal about the different organizations. There are 3 integrity investigations going on right now:

1) Patriots and deflated balls

2) Falcons and pumped in crowd noise

3) Browns and Front Office personnel texting the sidelines concerning offensive plays

Two of the teams came forward at start of investigation, admitted the wrong doing, apologized and said they would work harder to make sure something like that doesn't happen again and that they are cooperating fully and will take their punishment.

One team can't answer any "yes or no" question about anything with a "yes or no" answer and wants an apology from the Commissioner and the NFL for doing the job they are supposed to do.

And then they wonder why whenever their current scheme or foray into the gray area of the playbook or outright breaking of rules comes to light no one cuts them any slack.

Agreed, well stated.

On a similar note, if any other team in the NFL, had their players doing what the Patriots players have done since the Super Bowl and in that irresponsible hot mess of a parade,  they would have been taken behind the woodshed by the Commissioner by now, and everyone would have had that team on blast, but oh nooo not the Patriots!

I mean really, Edelman on that website with a girl describing her "late night activities", pulling off some of his clothes in the parade, punching a poster grabbed from a fan that had Sherman's picture on it; Gronk openly chugging beer and fireballs in the parade,  Blount with the tee-shirt of Beast mode referring to him in a profane way(that is offensive to women btw).  What is this team,... the frat boys from Animal house or World Champions of the National Football League?

Indirectly sending our kids a message by their behavior that it is okay to cheat, fight, drink, troll people in public, have drunk extra-curricular late night activities and thats okay because you get to go to Disney World.   Boy, what great role models this team turned out to be for small kids.!!!

They are an embarrassment to the sport of football imho.

Robert Kraft QQing about Brady and Belichick getting shade.

Also "classy" has become so misused that it's basically meaningless, these days.

Other than the shirt mocking Lynch, I see no problems here. Maybe I'm just not a straight, and maybe I just don't take life seriously enough, but I see no problems at all. By the way, that girl took the picture of Edelman while he was asleep and unknowing. Maybe Edelman shouldn't have pulled off clothes. But who cares if Gronk chugged alcohol? He's having fun and the fans loved it. What did it hurt? It's fun. Isn't that what football's about? Isn't that what LIFE is about? Having fun? Hmm. Maybe you're right. Football is serious time all the time. No time for fun. Let's just be classy and responsible.

I don't see it as stupid either, but whatever. If Suggs was chugging Fireball I don't think anyone here would care too much.

I think you might have missed the part about being role models for kids.  I am not opposed to celebration or fun for players at all, they worked very hard for it, they deserve to enjoy it.  But there are times when some things are better served to be done in private.

Teams have a public image to maintain, if their public image didn't matter then public relations teams wouldn't be hired by all the organizations to deal with image.  This was a public relations debacle imho.  It was sad that in one picture a man was holding his child trying to help him to wave at Gronk, but he was too busy chugging a beer to see it.  That is not the kind of public relations message a team wants to send to its public I would guarantee for multiple reasons. Somewhere at some point a parent is going to be discussing the subject of drinking with their young teen and probably will hear from their teen "well, Gronk did it!"   When a lot of young kids and teenagers look up to these players as heroes or role models, that isn't the kind of public image you want for your team is all I'm saying.

I understand your viewpoint, I just don't happen to agree and that is okay.

Maybee not here but you can be sure there would be a fine from the NFL! At least for the B-Mode shirt! But not for NE! The parade still represents the NFL....

I don't think there's any fines or other punishment from the NFL for the parade thing, the Kraftys often get carte blanche. It's kinda a reflection of the NE culture and I doubt any of the parents really cared if their kids were exposed to it. That said, if this had happened anywhere else folks wouldn't be laughing it off and the team would pretty much be hung.

They do look like they were having a blast, but it looks and sounds more like a frat party than a SB celebration parade, something "normal" folks would have done out of the public eye.

Yeah, take out how they focussed on the Seahawks (which was frankly pathetic, like Patriots fans coming in here to troll after their SB win) and the rest of it's fine. As long as they're not hurting anyone, who really cares?

I definitely see a problem with that.

BUT...  I still have a problem with some of what is going on in this league...  and what "CERTAIN" teams are allowed to get away with.

Eisenberg posts that article about Deflategate, but no commenting allowed???  I know that there is already a thread in the forums, but on the blog side, not so much.  He's poo pooing it.  All the while I know Ravens fans don't necessarily find it at all irrelevant.  Yeah, footballs are "tampered with"...  The team is allowed to inflate or deflate within that margin of 12.5 to 13.5 psi....  but take 2 pounds of pressure from a 12.5 ball.....  Just sayin...

I knew this would happen...  if...  and as soon as the Patriots won the Super Bowl, it would be shoved under the rug as no big deal....  Makes me sick...  Now the claim is no one documented what the actual psi's of the 11 balls were....  this along with some other happenings in this league, like the Atlanta gig of piping noise into the dome, are beginning to make even me question the integrity of what's going on in this league.

So what? As an adult we hear and know it's a beer. A kid doesn't know that and so you think it's bad because a kid is drinking juice in the same manner?

Yeah so we will ignore the champagne baths and drinking that's done immediately after games and claim this is the bad image? Lol

I'm curious as to if any of you watched the seattle parade last year or if the complaints are solely done because it's the pats that won?

I did not watch Seattle's parade but I did watch ours. I did not see any frat boy crap at our parade.

Didn't watch the hawks, but They probably had coffee?  lol

Watched the Ravens parade.........While it was fairly obvious a few had a buzz, there was no open display of drinking or b....h t shirts.

As I mentioned before, I'm pretty sure if any other team had done what the pats did they would be hung.

@Tiz,  Yes, I happen to think it is bad, but more so sad as it shows how a lot of young kids look up to some of these NFL players as role models, and I just don't happen to think it sets a good example for kids. Some of the celebrating maybe could have been done in private, rather than in the public's view as they do represent the NFL.  When a lot of young kids and teenagers look up to these players as heroes or role models, that isn't the kind of public image you want for your team or the NFL is all I'm saying.

The real integrity issues will come when the deflate-gate issue gets officially swept under the rug.  I had a feeling that if New England won the superbowl the whole thing would be kept as quiet as possible.  So far that's exactly what's happening.  I'm just waiting for the official "we can't find evidence of any wrong doing, and we apologize to Mr. Kraft and the Patriots organization" press conference

The mocking and taunting of Lynch was disgraceful.

The thing is too, completely uncalled for in any normal world.

You're the SB Champions, why would you even waste your time mocking someone else?

Not only that, but when Cleveland and Atlanta get a harsher punishment from the league for illegal texting and pumping in noise compared to the no punishment the Patriots will receive.
