We've mostly used the tag to buy time to hammer out a long term deal for a star player. I don't think we've ever made someone play it out. If so it's been a long time.

We've used it a bunch recently, but Suggs in 08 was the last player to actually play the season under it. Suggs got it the next season, and Ngata and Rice have had it since, but they all signed extensions.

Out of curiosity, when is the last time Ozzie used the franchise tag?  From what I gather, it's not something they like to do.

With Suggs a couple years back.

Yes.  Suggs, McAlister and Wally Williams are the only ones to have played out a season under the Tag.
