NFL non-profit status in danger?

3 posts in this topic

Now, personally, I've never quite understood why the NFL has tax-exempt status. But if a group of politicians get their way, the NFL could be stripped of their status as a non-profit.

(This is the only article I could find that wasn't blatantly partisan or from Buzzfeed, which I realize a lot of people don't consider a "news" source.)

The NFL is non-profit because the league itself acts as a clearinghouse, and the profit goes to the teams. Some money does go to the salaries of the league office, I believe, but its status as a clearinghouse is why it gets the nonprofit designation.
