Super Bowl XLIX Discussion

960 posts in this topic

Just realized there's been tremendous heartbreak every week for an NFC team throughout playoffs.

Lions no DPI call

Cowboys no catch

Packers failed onside recovery

Hawks INT at 1

it wasn't dpi. The ball, receiver and defender all arrived at the same time.

The other corner back can shove and push his receiver because they were within 5 yards.

It was no more dpi than jimmy

exactly.

It was....  the guy who intercepted it didn't....  there were two defenders there...  One shoved/pushed the receiver... the other stepped in and caught it...  Now, not saying ANY referee would make that call, but that call is  made in every single regular season game.

Far from DPI

Bevell is blaming Lockette for that last play.

Ridiculous. Under no circumstance do you pass from the half yard line with Lynch in your back pocket.

Ridiculous is an understatement. How can you blame Lockette on that last play? If anyone, blame Wilson for the location of the throw, but just credit to Butler for making that outstanding play.

Darrell Bevell needs to walk home. I may be oversimplifying but 2nd and goal with Lynch in the backfield? Marshawn has a nose for the endzone plus the fact that 3 runs would have run all the time down.

Such a bad playcall. Lining up in shotgun, alerting the DBs to an obvious pass that Butler took a shot on and won big time.

YUP.... Completely Moronic.  Pete Carroll says that the Patriots stacked the box with 8 defenders...  Does he not know who he has back there???   Lynch can carry 4 of those 8 into the endzone on his own....  You gotta try and punch it in there at least once or twice.... It's the Super Bowl...  And the game is on the line.  Stupid...  They gift wrapped it and put a bow on it and handed it right to the Patriots...

He panicked.....  completely....

Right with you, Mom Gene. Reminded me of 2007 when Billick lost his mind and passed 4/5 times within the 2yd line against the Bengals opening week. Making it stupider, McNair had left the game with an injury and Boller ended up getting picked and we lost the game.

Carroll choked, to be exact....

I wouldn't say Carroll choked, I just think he got too cute for his own good. He actually ending the game the same way he ended the 1st half.  They threw a TD pass w/ 6 seconds left right before halftime and tried to do the same thing to win.

There was a lot more contact with the Jimmy situation but you're right. That and the wr short armed it.

I think after BB didn't call the TO, Seattle panicked. It seemed as of they were relying on that.

With 26 seconds, one TO and three downs to work with, you could make a case for throwing the ball. But my lord, you have a mobile QB, go play action, roll him out and give him a shot at throwing it away or if open, score himself. A quick slant from the 1/2 yard line is just dumb.

Precisely. They wanted to make Wilson the hero. Lynch would've surely got MVP. Disney Land commercial would've been awkward with them saying Marshawn Lynch you just won the super bowl what are you gonna do??? Lynch: Yeaa

It's funny how similar the ending to this game was to Ravens/49ers. The only difference is instead of intercepting the first pass thrown they just threw 4 straight incomplete passes. Everyone ripped the 49ers for not running the ball a single time. When will coaches stop outsmarting themselves?

The difference here is Beast mode punching in that line is probably 99.9% possibility with 3 attempts to go.   Anyone watching that game knows Patriots couldn't stop Marshawn even if they tried.'

Now I get to enjoy Kraft and his b.s. team being similar resemblance of  9/11 heros to what they went through in 2001(no lie, thats what he said on the celebration podium).   Absolutely disgusting!

There is no difference. Kapernick and Gore were destroying us in the 2nd half. Gore has just broke a 30+ yard run to get them at/near the red zone. There was no way were were stopping them 4 times either.

Coaches just like to be clever in that situation since they know everyone expects a run.

It looked like he panicked but I don't buy coaches suddenly had a brain freeze at the 1/2 yard line. Teams have so many prepared goal line plays. They called a timeout and still don't know what to do?? Bull!! There was confusion all over like they never been to the goalline before!! Confusion came from the setup ending!! Can't blame Wilson cuz the WRs were confused and unprepared for a bogus conspired call. OK u wanna throw it, Fine at least fake the handoff to Lynch and its an easy throw all day!! I garuntee you it tricks the whole defense!!

I think they were about to run it with kaep on the 3rd down play but just as the ball was being snapped I think they called a timeout. Probably would have scored for them

That's what I said after that Super Bowl too. If I'm a 9ers fan, I'm less pissed about the holding no call and more pissed off at OC Greg Roman for not even trying to run it after the horrible things Gore had been doing with Ngata out and how he actually put the side in a position to let the refs make a decision like that.

They can gripe about the refs all they want, but it's their own silly fault they lost. Just like the Seahawks here.

I'm laughing at the fact everyone in Seattle is taking blame for what happened. Carroll says it was his fault, Wilson says it's his fault for throwing the pass(partially true), then Bevell blames Lockette for what happened. That entire sequence falls on Bevell, he was the one who called a passing play from the 1 yard line instead of letting Beast Mode be Beast Mode. If he does, Wilson doesn't throw the interception. Like Collinsworth said, I'd rather lose the Super Bowl after failing to get Lynch in 3 times than on an interception.

what are you talking about. You said it's dpi now when I say it's not you agree with me?

I agreed with your statement that...  "It was no more dpi than jimmy"...  except that this was within 5 yards....  and at that point in time, that didn't register....  I even stated...  "the refs let them play"  and that "there's not a ref out there that is going to make that call".

Kind of like icing your own kicker in 2012 in Atlanta to lose that playoff game. I think Pete Carroll has a knack for out coaching himself.

This picture will become a meme to describe every bad call going forward in the NFL.

His reaction is almost difficult to watch. As bad as Evans/Cundiff was this is 10x worse.

Patriots will open up 2015 on Sept 10th. Their home schedule absolutely sucks lol. Their home opponents outside of the AFC East are the Steelers, Eagles, Redskins, Jaguars and Titans. Looking at that I say either the Steelers vs Patriots or the NFL goes for the Rex Ryan factor and we get the Bills vs Patriots to kick off 2015.
