Super Bowl XLIX Discussion

Heartbreaking loss, scratching my head at the idiot play call.  Not sure how to react, as I'm becoming more and more frustrated at the Patriots obvious cheating, and how we could have been in this game.  I'm bumming out guys! lol

Don't bum out - there is always next year. Or, perhaps we'll get very lucky, Goodell will do his job and call them out for their crap and Blubbering Brady and Bellicheat will retire.

It really urks me when people use the word thug and it most cases when its used it is casual racism that aside. Can you really blame a team for being angry and having high emotions after losing a superbowl in the most BS of ways. I've played a number of sports and its very easy to get into an altercation for no reason but you have alot of bad feelings. Hitman mentality? The ravens like to give a good smack in the mouth too.

The seahawks def. can be immature off the field and I agree with you there but lets not be hypocrites.

I understand it irks you, but I don't think you should throw around such a label so frivolously, either. It's not a label that should be so easily placed and it's hard for you to make that call. I would prefer if we simply stopped discussing this "racism"  bit, casual or not.

With the discussion on the subject of the behavior, I've also played in college sports as a defensive back. I know how it gets when things don't go your way, especially when you feel like things should have gone your way. It really sucked and they had it right there for them. I can't say I know many others who would have fared better, but let's also remember one thing: these guys are professionals who are paid a lot of money and they need to keep these emotions in check to an extent. Yes, I like to see the Ravens smash people around and hit people and stuff like that. Don't get me wrong; I'm not a hypocrite. I just don't like how they essentially started a fight at the end of a game when they were going for the knee and they got a penalty and then the game was done and then they started something. That was unnecessary and I would feel that way even if it was the Ravens who did it.

I didn't like it when we acted like that against Pittsburgh this year, either, and even said something about it then. It's really immature to start fights. I like how we got it under control, but what I saw in the Super Bowl should've never happened. It's  shame because they have one of my favorite players in the game on their defense in Earl Thomas. He's one of my favorite guys in the league. I also like Lynch a lot, even with his quirky personality. I'm even a fan of Bobby Wagner. There's just certain guys on that team that bother me, and then the fans also irritate me to an extent with their "12th" thing when it's also known that the Seahawks' stadium is known to be designed to help influence sound or some BS like that.

1. Goodell is doing it

2. It was properly inflated

3. So, what's your point?

It was just funny to see a player check the ball. Lighten up a bit.

Perhaps it isn't proof .. but he certainly offered his rationale on why the play was run (which made absolutely no sense). So either he made the call, didn't make the call, but agreed with the rationale or is just taking the bullet ... not sure which.

Nonetheless, it isn't like a kicker missing a chip shot, this is a fundamental breakdown on the sidelines that cost a team a championship. No matter how you slice it, unless the team shows some character, this could be poisonous.

I mean, how well do you envision Lynch handling this?

Happy to stand corrected on Carroll making the call, though to be fair I wouldn't read much more into that press conference than I would from John Harbaugh's calm demeanour after a loss.

It was a terrible loss under the circumstances, but I still really don't see how it would lead to the team blowing up. Coaching is a learnable skill, so it's not like these guys shouldn't get better from it. Harbs and Belicheat have all had their moments too. While this happened to be in the Super Bowl, even the worst FOs don't let someone loose over one play like that.

The worst Lynch can do is leave, in which case they can replace him in the way they would any other player. Otherwise it's back to the drawing board for the new season, like it was after losing in Atlanta. Or like it was for the Broncos (a side I would argue had far worse character for the playoffs and disappointment) last year.

This game was a bunch of $hit. I don't believe anybody is that freaking stupid!! NFL needs close rigged Superbowls for ratings. Hardest RB in nfl to bring down, qb as mobile elusive and tough as a RB and what do you do at the half yard line?? throw the ball into a crowd!! Even if he caught the ball it was thrown behind the line of scrimmage. At worst Wilson could roll out and throw the ball away.

As a former patriot fan I hated Belichick for quite a while and was ashamed of his antics. Then I realized this crying cheating loser Brady was right there with him!! I despise the both of them. Football is the only sport I make time to watch and follow other than tennis Wimbledon and US open and baseball on occasion. This one was really irritating. Like throw something at TV irritating!! I was on Facebook and my phone calling patsie fans at same time rubbing it in to friends/family/x gf in Rhode Island. I was on phone with my x laughing(we are still friends) and I saw Wison drop back. When he dropped back to pass Before he even threw the ball my laugh turned to what in he** r u doing?? And the cherry on top the patsies were likely going to let them score in that situation to take a crack at couple completions and try a long field goal. I don't buy that any coach would make that call much less Pete Carroll supposedly one of the smartest. There's Noway the patriots could have won that game without it given to them at that time. Seahawk OLine and Lynch just to overwhelming for Patsie bucket of bolts DLine and Wilson a great athlete. I don't blame Seahawks for being enraged!! Losing hurts especially when its bunch of punk cheating liars with sociopath coach and and mostly pathetic loser fans who try to pretend spygate was a scam. Who wouldn't be enraged watching them celebrating while knowing they did not beat you. Your coach gave it to them for who knows what reason.

Patriot fans call us thugs and how Ray Lewis should have been banned with a straight face while pretending spygate was something made up!! Loser hypocrites of patsie fans irritated me back when I liked the patriots. Point is this Is why you give talented players with character problems chances to play!! WHO CARES WHAT HYPOCRITES CALL OUR TEAM!! They will take wins by cheating and rub it in they won. Calling us thugs is just jealous anger our players are bigger and stronger and more physical than theirs. Bottom line is winning!! I would want the Ravens to pick up Daryll Washington or Colt Lyerla in .03 seconds!! Or trade for Justin Blackmon even faster and try to refocus these young guys and give themba chance to change. Who cares if patsie fans or any others call us thugs or whatever!! They are just jealous we can clean up players with character concerns and keep them focused and working hard when their teams couldn't!! And of course mad we win with players we remolded. They don't care how they win by cheating or rigged games or luck or whatever. Let them say what they want cuz they know its really about WINNING!!

Besides many young people have problems and made bad decisions. It happens when your young. Some players come from single parent homes and foster care. Taking football from these kids won't help them!! Football gives them incentive/motivation to fly straight. Of course some players won't ever get it. But let's be the team that gets the player that does eventually mature and work hard!! DO YOU THINK THE OTHER TEAM WILL APOLOGIZE FOR WINNING??!! Just cuz they helped former troubled young players become focused or cheated!! They will take wins anyway they can, cheating whatever!! Besides what's wrong with helping a young person refocus and work hard and clean up and become a good person. Its always a feel good story like With Chris carter. We saw how important it is having a 3 down LB that don't miss tackles!! As well as putting heat on the QB. Brady was a different QB when Avril left the game and he got comfy in the pocket.

Plays like a demi god with his 1980s prom night haircut and his christmas sweater model look and then looks garbage in every other game. NFL Logic.

your QB wears Uggs.

Worst play call I've ever seen.... Ever

Literally not a single reason to throw there.. You have arguably the best RB in the league

I heard they kicked the crap out of the saders in a trial though, so maybe they have some youngsters ready to step up. Also I know I am in for severe disappointment in this years world cup arghhh.

Have to go through another rollercoaster ride with the Canes. Exactly like Inqui said, fringe playoff team at best. I dont have any faith in Boyd at all as head coach especially after that disgraceful swansong with the Wellington Lions. Plumtree is the silver lining for me in all of this. If he can turn our pack of decent players into a unit I will be very happy. Backs can self manage themselves. Its almost the All Blacks backline again.

Even Cam would never have called that kind of play at the 1/2 yard line.

Not least of all because that play wouldn't be in his playbook. :P

There might eb a few mediocre teams this season so making the top 6 is doable with a decent run of momentum.

Sadly the Hurricanes still look to be fringe playoff contenders at best, and we may be taking a step back as the new coach adjusts.

Man, now that I think of it I really can't wait for the NFL Draft. Not like my Orlando Magic are doing anything relevant atm either.

Yeah and my Blazers are just in a slump. Thank gosh we got off to a hot start (as we usually do) because we could be in some trouble.

I actually enjoy First Take. I think they have interesting opinions outside of the times they are  pushing Espn's agenda. Besides you cant take it too seriously I can tell you that the hosts dont.

I do too. I'm just not gonna watch it this entire week. With the NBA All-Star Weekend coming next week (I believe?), I'm sure they'll head to NY and talk about the festivities during All-Star Weekend.

Bevell is blaming Lockette for that last play.

Ridiculous. Under no circumstance do you pass from the half yard line with Lynch in your back pocket.

What is the rule on Pass interference within the 1yd to the goal stripe?

No doubt the Pats defender hit the player before the ball came to him. To me and to me only since I am a freaking expert, the defender went through the right shoulder before the ball arrived.

Any thoughts?

BTW..

Chuck it up Harb's with 1 minute to go in the AFC game play call  seems like gravy compared to the boneheaded call by Carroll.

Yea, I have been blasted already that the two plays have nothing to do with one another, but that is what the Pats do to coaches and players. They have you on the edge.

It seems other coaches try to make a surprise play instead of football 101. Line them up and stop me. Holy cow.. Lynch with 3 plays to get 1 yd. No Brainer.

Finally, I wonder if " I need to be here because I am under contract"  Mr. Lynch has anything to say about the pass call.  Stay Tuned world.

He was totally playing the ball. That's not going to be called PI 1000 out of 1000 times.

The more I heard Carroll and Bevill talk about this play call, the more I believe they not only deserved to lose that game, they earned it. You are in the Superbowl and instead of trying to score the winning TD, you are trying to run all the time off the clock before you score. That's just arrogant and it bit them in the rear end.

All the crap I had to listen to from bandwagon Seahawks' fans for the last month and then they don't even win it when it's in their hands.

If their OC turns up missing and at a press conference Lynch says, "I plead the fifth....oh my bad, I mean.....I am only here so I don't get fined." We will have our answer. The guy can not be a happy camper right now.

It's nice that we're starting to build the forward pack - we've had some of the flashiest backlines in the history of the world game and proved it gets you nowhere without the big guys doing their hard work - so hopefully that continues. It's just a shame that we never got to see the endgame of Hammett's work.

Not wrong though. If the Force can get as close as they did last season, there's hope for the rest of us. :D

Correct. That title was guaranteed to the winner of SB47 (SF was 5-0 before they played us).

Ruined it for 2 teams, in the Giants and Niners. Excellent...

And in response to you saying you don't pass there, I'd put every o line and blocking back I have on my bench in the game and run it in. it looked like they expected the Patriots to use a TO and then when they didn't, they went full [profanity deleted]. You never go full [profanity deleted]. If I'm the owner and GM, I'm asking Pete Carroll and Bevell why the hell I should re-sign Lynch if this is what I expect you to do with him when he's getting big money.

I still can't believe this. I had a feeling they'd lose after Kearse, I think, dropped the pass on 3rd down when they had the abiltiy to go up 17. To lose like this though? I saw this somewhere else, but look at how teams have lost on the NFC. Detroit with the flag pick up, Dallas with the CJ rule, GB giving up the lead and then this? Ouch... if Ravens lost like this, I'm going to the Castle with pitch forks and torches....

Maybe Carroll wanted to let Wilson have that moment with his arm. I don't know guys...contract year, they want to make Wilson the franchise and maybe him making that TD throw would have given Wilson and their plans to make him the highest paid QB some real legitimacy? I can think of no other reason. The team hasn't been much for Lynchs antics and his holdout at the begining of the year. Maybe they didn't want him to win the SB as it wouldn't put the spotlight on the QB and the MVP probably would have been Lynch too. I honestly believe with 99 percent certainty that the teams brass got arrogant and said Russell this is your moment,

Did anyone catch Evil Little Bill's sick burn of the Hawks while complimenting the Ravens at the same time?

"Were you worried about being down 10 points going into the 4th?"

"Not nearly half as worried as when we were down 14 against Baltimore."

Wait, some are saying the INT was DPI? Ha.

It was....  the guy who intercepted it didn't....  there were two defenders there...  One shoved/pushed the receiver... the other stepped in and caught it...  Now, not saying ANY referee would make that call, but that call is  made in every single regular season game.

Pete Carroll takes responsibility for it:

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/02/02/why-did-the-seahawks-make-one-of-the-worst-play-calls-in-the-history-of-the-super-bowl-the-man-responsible-explains/

But I totally disagree with him...  You've got 1st down and goal...  You know they're gonna stack the box.  Typically Lynch carries 4 guys 3 yards downfield.  There is no reason whatsoever to call that play at that time.   You gotta try and punch it in at least once or twice.

HE PANICKED.

it wasn't dpi. The ball, receiver and defender all arrived at the same time.

The other corner back can shove and push his receiver because they were within 5 yards.

It was no more dpi than jimmy
