2015 NFL Off Season & Free Agency (Other Teams)

Without meaning to sound stupid to those who have watched the NFL since the days they learnt to walk, why would a team want to trade some of their best players at this time of year?

Never understood that as well. My guess is to get the best value in order to begin the rebuilding process for certain teams.

Lol at the 49ers. Their fans are pissed. He's a good addition though since Peyton can only manage intermediate routes now. Vernon just has to hold on to the ball and not play small.

Niners got hosed.

I say we swap picks with them and send a 6th in 2026 along with Monroe in exchange for Joe Staley lol.

Some of them can't seem to make their own minds up either haha. In one sentence they're saying he shouldn't have made the team anyway and then in the next they're saying they got nothing for him. We win a game AND get to laugh at some other teams in the process? What a week! haha

Mix of different things.  Some teams want to shed the remaining salary.  Some players want to move to a winning team and have a shot.  Some teams are able to secure more value for a FA than they would in the comp pick market.  Some teams want to clear up a spot to let a young guy get experience.  There are some rumors that make sense (i.e. Vernon Davis) and others that don't (i.e. Joe Thomas).

Anyone seen that SD put Eric Weddle on the trading block. I know people in this forum have been eyeing him.

Yep. And speculations on ESPN by Chargers writer how trading him to Pittsburgh would make a lot of sense.

The only way we can get him is by having extension in place, since we can't take his $7.5M salary.

Browns apparently want two 1st rounds for Thomas, 3rd for Mack and 3rd for Mingo?!?

That third for Mack may be worth it to any team who needs a center but a third for Mingo? That's laughable if you ask me.

It's generally for players nearing the end of their contract or for ones that are getting to be too expensive. The idea is to get some other team to pay for some of their guaranteed money, and get a few picks in return. The alternative is to just cut them (for the players getting too expensive) or just letting them leave (for players at the end of their contract). In those cases, the team gets nothing after they're gone.

Another reason is a team just having bad management, which may be the case with the Browns.

Agreed. A 3rd for a franchise center is a fair price. But  for a first round bust, that's insane. The two 1st rounders for Thomas is insane too. A franchise quarterback is the only type of player worth two first round picks.

Trouble with Alex Mack is that he doesn't want to leave and has a "no trade" clause that he isn't going to waive.

I know he SAID that but, he did sign a deal with Jacksonville 2 years ago that was matched, and the franchise still hasn't done much since then. I hope his agent is in his ear. Urshels snaps give me nightmares lol.

I remember how bummed everyone was when the Browns jumped ahead of us to grab West and we ended up with Gilmore from that pick instead. Though it looks like that was a blessing for us.

I really hope the Rams know what they are doing signing Welker. He is another concussion away from serious injury.

That Rams defense will have to go easy on him in practice given the way they play against other teams.

Patrick Willis is reportedly considering a comeback. I would love to see him back in the league. He was one of my most favorite players. Now if only we could lure him away from San Francisco...

That didn't last long... Willis shut down all possibilities with this statement.

“I MADE MY DECISION BACK IN APRIL. AND I HAVEN’T THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT . . . PLAYING ANOTHER DOWN IN THE NFL…PERIOD‼‼‼” he wrote, rather subtly I might add. “SO QUIT TRYING TO BRING LIFE; on a CHAPTER that I have already CLOSED IN MY HEART and MIND.”

Um... Your Caps Lock is on Pat!
