[News] Ravens Hire Marc Trestman As Offensive Coordinator

339 posts in this topic

Good pickup will run basically the same offense we already have. If you look at his history wherever he has been as an OC he was successful. It will be a good transition for our offense.

I like this move...just hope they keep west coast concepts..such as boots, waggles, etc.. That Joe is so good with, with his mobility and athleticism he doesnt get credit for besides his rocket arm...

Keep continuity in the offensive scheme... So were not changing scheme again for 5th time in like 5 years

You seem a lil upset.

Guy's a great OC, not a good HC, so he should do fine. Sure he looks very odd, but he knows how to build a good passing game. He should do fine handling Joe too.

I like this hire. Last year, the Bears offense was ranked in the top 10 across the board and that was with Josh McCown at QB. Has a good reputation as a offensive mind. Welcome to Raven Nation.

From the LFW this morning

Scheme will only get you so far. At some point the players still have to execute at a high level. I'd stay away from Marrone because the testimony of his former staff and the highly suspect way in which his departure from the Bills occurred should send up red flags everywhere about his personality.

Between Gase and Trestman I'd lean towards Trestman for two reasons.

1) Gase is young and will be in high demand in the coming years for a HC vacancy putting us right back into this predicament. Trestman on the other hand, if we succeed, will have GMs thinking twice as to whether he's really "HC material" given his issues with the Bears and Cutler. Some guys are just better suited to play calling.

2) Trestman's personality should be attractive to our front office. He's soft-spoken, cerebral, and looks like a guy who defers to consensus decisions instead of butting heads with GMs and other coaches. Plus, he's got head coaching experience, which Harbs loves to be surrounded by.

Either guy would be a good fit for 2015. It's beyond that that may play into the final call.

Here are the records for each of our last 3 coordinators the year before we hired them to be playoff caliber playcallers:

Cam Cameron, Dolphins, 1-15

Jim Caldwell, Colts, 2-14

Gary Kubiak, Texans 2-14

Something tells me we should disregard Trestman's last year with 5 wins and a quitter for a QB.

Yeah, because McCown wasn't trying to coup him like Cutler did.

Not sure what to think given the season the bears had despite having plenty of offensive weapons buttt on the bright side Flacco is better than Cutler so maybe we'll have a great year offensively for the 2nd straight year.

I will say this, if he is the quarterback whisperer, then it should come out next year. I can't say that I wasn't pulling for Gase, but I can tell you that this man has a decent pedigree and was placed in a bad predicament this past year. I welcome him to the family and with his west-coast style mind, it will only enhance what we already have. Just remember, the blocking scheme for the running back should stay the same, since we still have the same offensive line coaches and running back coaches. I think we should draft a corner first, running back second and another tight end third and whatever else we can do in the secondary should be paramount.

It's rather hard to do anything when you have a QB who totally doesn't want to work with you.

And I mean Cutler of course, not Flacco :)

nice pick up and i know flacco will do well it was all cutler who made bears offense look bad because he is known to throw picks. Marc Trestman made Mccown a really good QB and his offense is similar to Gary Kubiak

Welcome.

Dont mind the fans, whining is like oxygen to a lot of them. they'll do it even if you win 5 straight superbowls. deep down they appreciate you though.

Great -

Another retread- Can we please get away from anyone who has bounced around the leagueover and over  because the couldn't get it done. This guy has more wear than a Mr.Tire trade in. Where is Earl Weaver when you need him.

id rather bring back CALDWELL than this guuy...

Aha. Sign a HC who they love at their current place, to an OC position...

If you can pull it off, any organization will gladly take you as their GM.
