Backup QB (Merged)

Lol Bernard Pierce, he is a shell of his former self speed wise but he would be a decent back if he had any runner's vision

Either way proves my point that Forsett was thrust into the role rather than won it over the competition.

Forsett proved he was the better choice. I'm sure the coaches understood what they saw on the field.

Wasn't this thread supposed to be about QBs?

Of course it was M3 but you mods already know that the least little post can sidetrack a thread.  Lol!

did jason campbell retire? he always has been and always will be my favorite backup qb, his time with all of his teams were bad thanks to horrible OL play, something we dont have a problem with, campbell can make all the throws and he is a tough cookie.

if i were to worry about a backup qb, thats my guy.

He was with the Browns in 2103  (he beat us in Cleveland). Then he signed with the Bengals last year.

This isn't about backup RBs. lol

Yep.

As for the subject it's either gonna be Wenning or an FA off the scrap heap and they'll probally sign an URFA to also compete. Not a big deal tho cuz Joe's gonna break Favre's game starting streak. Howl at the moon.

We've beat this horse for so long I'm surprised PETA hasn't filed an injunction against us.

looks like we will address it. we keep rolling dice with flacco and that can be dangerous.

every year we don't make the playoffs hurts our franchise until we get some more superbowl rings and can afford a couple of off years like the steelers without losing respect.

I don't think our current back-up QBs will every cut it.  I'm hoping for one both these possibilties. Either draft Sean Mannion from Oregon St. in 5-6th rounds and/or sign Matt Schaub on the cheap.

Mannion is a big QB sort of a cross between Joe and Schaub.  He's a better developmental prospect than Wenning and has the tools become an NFL starter.

Schaub is far from finished and can be a great veteran back-up for at least one season.  He had one disasterous season and flourished in system that we now use; Trestman's style offense is close to Kubiak's.  If ever called upon he could prosper here and we do well with reclaiming once good players off the scrap heap.

I can't wait to see who the back up will be.  And no matter who he is, he'll be hated I'm sure.

Nobody hates Tyrod. I just think he sucks as a passer.

I don't think the Ravens want to waste cap space on a veteran backup. Flacco has been exceptionally durable, and God forbid he gets hurt, our season is screwed anyway.

We need a backup. True, no Joe and we are screwed, but Oz knows this. The options we have are. well, "P" poor! Kyle Boller looks good and that ain't funny.  Keith, if you think we hate you ask yourself one question. You are a Raven right?  Nuff said kid!

I like Mannion a lot. I think if we could nab him with our 6th rounder, I'd be all for it.

I agree Mannion is who I'd be targeting in this years draft. But I doubt he last till the 6th round and the late 5th is kinda late too. I would use one of the 4th round comps on him. But hoping he last till the late 5th is the ideal scenario.

I don't think Mannion is gonna go that high. He isn't really a guy that looks to be a starter and had a down year, not to mention he isn't a great athlete.

Where in my post was Tyrod's name mentioned man?  Your response proved my point!

Regardless of who the backup is..he'll be hated here for some odd reason.

Only if people keep clammoring for him to be put in every time Flacco misses on a pass.

Seriously, though, I don't see the hate on the backup. I see the opposite. I've seen repeated demands to put the backup in. I think it started clear back with Smith in Joe's rookie year. It ran rampant with Bulger and continued growing with Taylor.

Any "hate" you sense on the backup is just a reaction to people "hating" on Flacco.

Clearly implied by the fact that you are Tyrod's personal cheerleader, and that Tyrod had been our backup QB for several years now...

Yes, that's what Curtis Painter is... a vet.

If you're asking should we spend the money to bring in some perceived "high end" backup that magically might win us like 8-9 games, then no, we shouldn't.

Curtis Painter is a name lost in the shuffle.  I really never seen him make his mark    No one would really think of him as insurance.

Oh no, he wont be hated.  Quite the opposite.

He will be far, far, far better than Flacco, but will be in John Harbaughs dog hose and will never be allowed to prove him self.

That statement of mine was generic and had absolutely nothing to do with Tyrod.  That's your assumption!

But, there is nothing wrong with being a "cheerleader" for a player(s) that you like and want to see do well in the midst of all their haters and critics..  After all, there's plenty of Flacco cheerleaders in here as well.  Ahhh...wait...you're one of those guys!  Smh!

I would like to get Mike Glennon from Tampa Bay.

Why exactly would they let him go? Jameis Winston? I don't think they let him go because Winston would need a good back up if he ever becomes a starter this year.

Flacco is the starter so "hate" on him from time to time is to be expected but to hate on his backup who'll never see the field?  That's a different story.

Schefter just tweeted it could be Schaub as early as this week Ravens, Falcons and Jets are all interested in him Just an FYI to my brother and sister Raven fans.....

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter

Look for former Raiders QB Matt Schaub to sign this week, per source. Interested teams include Jets, Ravens, Falcons, amongst others.

I did not see the hate fans had for Tyrod except when Flacco had a doosy of a game and a few people said lets put Tyrod in the game. But I think I would classify that as more of a people getting upset that because Joe had a bad play or day some fans wanted Tyrod in the game when Flacco was and is the Ravens best shot at winning.  I am very happy for Tyrod he will have a shot with a true open competition to try to win the starting job in Buffalo and thats something he would never get here in Baltimore because Flacco is very durable and not injured much at all thank God...

That's the thing Alskan, I'm not talking about nor have I ever mentioned Tyrod Taylor in this thread.  Another dude brought his name into this not me.  I'm speaking in general terms.  "Whoever" the future backup maybe here in Baltimore, I'm pretty sure he'll be hated.  It comes with the territory it seems.
