Matt Ryan and Pro Bowl

38 posts in this topic

Can someone out there explain to me how Matt Ryan goes to the Pro Bowl after falling miserably short - again - and getting blown out in a must-win to get into postseason final game?

And I think I'm gonna need you to talk slow and draw me pictures so I understand it.

Fantasy football. Ryan might do ok in the Pro Bowl because they don't hit QBs or really play defense, like the NFC South. Then again, he stunk it up in that division too.

Also, Dalton makes the Pro Bowl. Stats aren't everything but look at his numbers. What are people voting for?

Well, clearly if you add his success in the playoffs to those numbers...oh, nevermind.

Maybe because anyone actually any good is injured or playing in the Super Bowl?

This has brought the joke that is the Pro Bowl to entirely new levels. Wow. Was there ever a worse selection that comes to mind?

Dalton was a 7th alternate.  It's just the way the Pro Bowl works nowadays.  No one wants to play in it anymore, so they simply have to go down the line to fill out rosters.

Love the story that came out today that Flacco turned down the Pro Bowl to be there for his wife and growing family. Every talking head that wants to ding Flacco always brings up "He's never been to a Pro Bowl." So here's his chance and he says "No thanks."

Just when I thought Joe Cool couldn't get any cooler or up his game any more in January, he does.

It's because Flacco declined an invite guys. Flacco could have gone but chose family over football. Good on him I say!

Flacco is lucky to have had decent excuse.

Since there really isn't anything on the line here, both Dalton and Ryan will probably be fine. It's only when "clutch" is required that they fail.

I believe Mark Sanchez is next in line.

Just when you thought the Pro Bowl couldn't get any sadder....

The less of our guys taking the risk of blowing out a knee in an exhibition game the better. Particularly flacco.

I hate when people act like pro bowls are respected career accolades. In no way should they be used in arguments when discussing/comparing players.

All-Pro is the only thing important.

Maybe what they should do for ProBowler is anoint the alternates as alternate ProBowler therefore making it less of an achievement.

They should get rid of it all together and have something like skill competitions, imo.

I vote for pass rushing / sack competition. QBs can't cancel if they are selected.

So you're suggesting a sack race?

Hah, that might be more fun than the actual Pro Bowl too...

...but no - I want the real probowl QB in my competition for pass rushers!

I remember when David Garrard was a Pro-bowler in '10. I believe that was the year that Vince Young and Matt Schaub rounded out the AFC representatives.

Isnt All-pro decided by media members?

I think that taking out or at least minimizing the value of the fan vote would help the pro-bowls legitimacy. I mean really, you can vote as many times as you like (within in the time limit) and unlike the players (who I believe cannot vote for themselves or their teammates) there's nothing stopping you for from voting for a guy just because he plays for your favorite team.

Or because he starred in a movie with Sandra Bullock.

I'm not sure what you're saying there, Inqui.

Just bolded the bit I was referring to. A couple of years ago Michael Oher got the fan vote, but thankfully the players and reporters saw sense.
