"DeflateGate" Update: Suspension Upheld! Brady Accepts 4 Game Ban.

2,478 posts in this topic

I guess we know now why Brady grimaces and scowls so bad when he throws an interception, lol.

But seriously, I don't think anyone would argue that an underinflated ball would certainly be easier to grip for throwing and catching purposes, and a better grip would allow for better accuracy when throwing.  If true, it certainly would give the Patriots an advantage, especially in inclement weather conditions.

Would it have made a difference in the outcome of THIS game...no.  But again it is just another example of the Patriots' willingness to bend the rules to get an advantage over their opponent.  At some point in time, something is going to have to be done with this franchise's blatant attempts to snub their noses at the NFL  AND  the rules of the game that for the most part all the other 31 current teams play by.

Honestly, if I was an NFL player, working my butt off everyday in practice for 6 or 7 months, sacrificing my body and time with my family only to be done in by a team playing less than a clean game I would be pissed off.  That is a year of wear and tear on your body you will never get back.

As a fan, what the Patriots have done and evidently still continue to do is an affront to the spirit of the game and the principles of good sportsmanship. Frankly from just a point of principle it disgusts me.

Belicheck would be served to be reminded of a true patriot in Thomas Paine's words~ "Character is much easier kept than recovered".

Here's what really makes me mad.

If Evil Little Bill and Tom Brady were not seemingly always finding a way to cheat and skirt the rules? I'd probably like them and sorta semi sorta cheer for them whenever we were out of the picture. If Tom Brady didn't get special treatment? I'd probably actually legitimately like them.

They have the talent.

They have standout guys like Wilfork.

WHY DO THEY FEEL THE NEED TO DO THIS CRAP???

That's what makes me loathe these guys. They could probably do just fine without it! Back to the divisional round, if they hadn't used trick plays they *still* could have driven down the field with the way our secondary was playing and *still* could have stolen the game. But they used deceptiveness. The Colts didn't even show up and the Patriots may have cheated! WHY?

This is why the Patriots are despised. They could win on their own but instead they break the rules while doing so.

What bothers me more than the deflated balls is the fact that they are still running these funky formations...  The NFL Network talked about it last night...  There were two plays in a row where they had eligible and ineligible players on the field...  and there was no way that the Colts had time to adapt...  The third time they tried it, they actually did get a flag for an illegal formation because one of the guys "forgot" to mention that he was ineligible...  The Colts COULD NOT know who was eligible and who wasn't....  Brian Baldinger said he studied that film all day yesterday and couldn't figure out what the heck was going on.

Would not have mattered what kind of condition the footballs were in......The Colts stunk the place up....Either way if the allegations ARE true I would not be surprised.

Yeah - I don't think anyone is arguing that manipulation of the ball pressure changed the outcome of the game.  The Colts lost fair and square.  The question is whether or not someone on the Patriots team knowingly deflated the balls in order to give the Patriots a slight advantage.

Right now this comes down to two possibilities in my mind: if a Colts linebacker was able to tell that the ball was deflated, then Tom Brady must have known this as well.  There's no way one of the best QBs to ever play the game does not tell the difference in ball pressure when a linebacker can tell the difference.  So either there were multiple people on the Patriots staff that knew about the balls, including Tom Brady, and that it was done on purpose.  Or that it was accidental, and Tom Brady still knew that the ball pressure was off.

Either way, I do not see how Belichick wasn't told about it during the game.

They knew.....  When that ball was removed at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, they had to be told...  The refs don't just take a ball out of play without somebody asking or telling why.

Actually taken the weather and conditions ..... and we all know blounts history of fumbling a regulation rock. Take way his impressive runs and broken tackles away then ........well we got a new ball game ,  no one can say for sure whether or not this would have effected the out come  but in the end Cheating is cheating ....... Coaches in college have had wins stripped for less

Do I remember when the ratings-hungry media created a buzzword for the masses to start mindlessly parroting?

I do.

Do you remember when two time Superbowl champion, Jimmy Johnson, admitted he did the same thing during his Cowboy runs, which he said he picked up from every other NFL team he worked for?

I do too.

Do you remember when all the geniuses who call the Patriots "cheaters" also put an asterisks next to Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irving?

Me neither.

"Mommy, they did it too!" is what your post should have said.

Just because other teams have done it in the past, doesn't mean its right.

Maybe the ball just self-deflated due to the cold, like our tires do? I don't see the NFL confirming the charges in the lead up to the Super Bowl, so we might as well predict the excuses.

The weather report for that game was reported at ESPN via the Weather Channel as:

"From a temperature standpoint, it is mild Sunday for this time of year -- in the 40s. Rain is expected, and it could be heavy when it does arrive. The Gillette Stadium field, which is a FieldTurf surface, has been covered with a tarp."

Maybe Brady squeezed it so hard some of the air squished out?

Or Gronk spiked enough air out of it? lmao   Unbelievable!

Very strange case and how are they going to investigate what happened in the past. Well anyway I'm sure all the evidence will just magically disappear.

The Colts should be ashamed of Irsay. He and Pagano should get fined for this witch hunt. The score was 17-7 when the kicking ball was late to be pulled from the field of play. Do I need to tell you the Patriots stats and results of the next three possessions? Or for the rest of the game? They far outweigh the prior.

Hello Patriots fan.  If you care to read this thread, most of us have already stated that the deflation of balls did not really impact the game.  The issue here is the principle.  Whether or not deflating the balls decided the ballgame is a nonissue here, because the game was not even close.  But if ANYONE on the Patriots team knew that the balls were deflated, or if they were deflated on purpose, and no one was notified, then you guys cheated.  Period.  End of story.

I would never go as far as saying that you should forfeit the game, because that is ludicrous.  But if you guys played with deflated balls and didn't notify anyone, then you should absolutely be punished for that.

I stated earlier in this thread - if a Colts linebacker was able to tell that the ball was deflated when he intercepted Brady, how on earth did Brady not know this?  As soon as he handled the ball for the first time he would know that it wasn't properly inflated.  Did he tell anyone?  If yes, then who did he tell?  Did Belichick know about it during the game?  If Brady knew about it and it wasn't planned, you have to believe that Belichick would be informed about this.  If Brady did not tell anyone, why did he not tell anyone?  Because it was easier for him to throw the ball?  Wouldn't that also be considered cheating?

Answer my questions from my other post.

I wouldnt count on that happening. You cant discuss with ignorance.

Sigh, Im going to take my own advice. They completely ignored my other statement and is getting trying to start a childish name call.

I've been warned in the past by doing this. Lol. I've learned my lesson moderators. :P

Ill leave this troll alone.

I think our posters have been very logical and reasonable with their questions, comments, and inquiries regarding this issue and discussion.  I certainly can see, based on your franchise's past history why you would be so defensive, but there is no reason to troll and smack talk regarding it...believe me that doesn't help your cause.  This is Ravens website and you probably will not find a lot of sympathy here.  Might I suggest that you would be better inclined to enter in discussions with Seahawks fans at this point.

Thanks!

On a different note, the Around the Horn guys say take away a draft pick if found guilty.

I think they should. I think the Ravens and Indy should feel proud that the Pats had to use the silly plays against us and the balls against Indy

I would be very interested to find out when they could have been tampered with? It's not like anyone has access beforehand and there are cameras everywhere for a championship game.

Anytime from the time the footballs are released to the ball boys from the referees.  It would literally only take a few seconds with a pin/needle that is used to inflate the ball, to be placed into the air release valve, to deflate a ball. Probably wouldn't even be noticed..

So what happens if they're guilty but win the Super Bowl? I don't think losing a draft pick would matter much, honesty. Take away the first round pick. So what? They just won the Super Bowl. Lol.
