Why Ozzie Newsome is Brilliant.

7 posts in this topic

Let me lighten the mood....... Somehow. It seems beer doesn't do it for you.

At least among my friends, from when I still lived in Baltimore, most of them hated the recent draft. We "didn't get better". The whole "damn Ozzie to hell".

Well, I'll tell you why. Ozzie built the team from the middle.

To have a good football team you need three things

1. A QB who's good enough to win you games. We have that in Flacco. Anyone who doesn't think that is a moron.

2. Good trench play.

3. A freaking identity. (Was the profanity filter taken off? Not sure. Will play it safe)

We didn't have two of those three things. Now we have all three to a degree.

Ozzie Newsome was brilliant cause he did what I would've done. He built the team from the middle and will go  outward right now.

Look at the past few years. Sure, Elam was a major bust. I usually give a prospect a few years, but he sucks haha. But he solved that problem by getting Brooks, who was better imo, and Hill. If we stay healthy, we're probably in the super bowl.

But let's do a parallel. Why was our defense so great when Ray was in his prime? Besides having Ed Reed back there to spy the QB(and we don't need another ball hawk. Not every position needs a superstar. Hill and Brooks are fine. Hell, keep Stewart, he's not too terrible either), we had big strong dlinemen to occupy blockers.

So we get our next defensive star in Mosely. So what do we do? We go and get good dlinemen who occupy blockers.

If you can't stop the run, you won't win games. Simple as that.

He also fixed the oline and made the run game better. So much as so to making Forsett look like a serviceable running back(he's okay. There are many plays this season where I went "A better RB would've scored a TD there).

The defense would've been great had everyone stayed healthy.

You want my honest opinion on what we do this offseason.

1. We cut Ngata, Canty, Mclellan to free up the cap room we need.

2. Resign McPhee. We need a versatile guy who's good vs the pass and run.

3. Look for a bargin at WR. Cecil Shorts? Eddie Royal?

4.Look for a bargin replacement to replace Ngata. We need more interior rush. Melton as a situational pass rusher?

5. Draft needs are RB, TE, Pass rusher, CB depth.

I'm happy to have Ozzie here. Even with this fiasco we should still be good. Cheers!

Love Ozzie, look at Chicago, Jacksonville, and Cleveland. Thank Goodness our F.O is always committed to winning.

I still believe that WR by far is the biggest priority come draft day. WR-FS-CB-RB-TE are needs IMO.

McPhee is gone. He is this offseason version on Art Jones. Will get too much money elsewhere. I see Canty leaving cause of age and injury prone. Ngata will finish out his contract.

My predictions.

Ozzie and the coaching staff do an excellent job of featuring contract year players do to well and put them in position to either get a new feel here or elsewhere. Kudos.

In Oz I trust. These other speculations, prospecting rants and

degradations of current Ravens just doesn't appeal to me. It feels dismissive and/or divisive at best. Like a slave trade, Russian Roulette or fixed poker game.

One of the regular themes for threads tends to be “I Love This Guy or That Dude, BUT....”. Imo – That's a strange kind of love. How can Ozzie be proclaimed 'brilliant' and a second later you give directions as to what you think he needs to do and/or better do.

Yes, Ozzie is brilliant and most likely will go down in NFL History as one of the more innovative GM's of his era. Oz is BRILLIANT. Enough said.

In Oz I trust. Get over the Bust and start to Trust...more.
