What are the best Concerts you have ever experienced?

I said the Song Remains the Same tour, but actually it was one after it, but the format of the show was the same. It was Memorial Day weekend 1978 in the Cap Centre. The show I attended, Page was the absolute feature. Being a lead singer myself, I worshiped Plant at the time, but honestly I didn't feel like he was entirely on his game. All in all, though, a great show to have seen.

As for the Stones, I saw them at JFK in Philly June 78. It was not good at all. Their set was very short, their sound wasn't good (outdoor stadiums are even worse than basketball arenas) and it was strangely unseasonably cold and rainy and I was absolutely not dressed for it so I was pretty miserable.

1981 saw them in the Cap Centre .. again, not the greatest venue but really a good show and they were full of energy and on their game.

I believe the Stones are an arena band but with the public demand and money they demand I can see why they are contracted to stadiums. I saw the Stones in Philly in the Sp[ectrum which is notorius as a tin can   It was a nightmare for sound crews. I really liked them but since it was the 70's we were easily comditioned before we entered and inside too. Remember those days when they allowed people to smoke?   I really never liked Plant His range is too extreme for my ears.  I played in bands and we never had a solo singer   When you sang,, did you ever use a blues harp (harmonica) .

Sound Garden and NIN at Red Rocks Amphitheater in CO.

Rabbit In The Moon in South Beach, Miami.

I have heard a lot about Red Rocks but no one ever had a chance to tell me about the acoustics.  What was the atmosphere like?

Go look at some pics of the venue. It's bleacher seating wedged between two monolith boulders. The acoustics were insane and the atmosphere was what you'd expect from a world class venue in a state with legalized kind bud.

yeah Hero, I'm an old road dog and have seen just about all of the "classic" groups over the years. Little Feat was one of the few that was able to play the tunes they recorded in the studio and improve upon the sound and quality. Amazing players, all of them, and amazing vocals.

Another all time favorite live is the Chili Peppers. Total energy and great talent, especially Flea, who I consider to be the best R and R bass player ever. It's a shame John Frusciante no longer plays with them as he as well is near the top of the heap of R and R guitarists.

I think the only band that I could consider as being as good live as the Feat is Santana. I still go to see Carlos every time he comes to town and have never been disappointed. He always assembles an amazing group of players and the sound that comes off the stage sends chills up your spine.

You are poabably old as dirt. ha Good to converse with a guy who knows the true value of arthitis.

Feat is that way.  They played top notch no matter how many people are present.  I remember Trenton tried a blues bar B Q fest which was wildly successful for the first year then declined. The Band played with special guest on drums Steve "the actor" Segal.  Unfortunately Little Feat was at the last one  I counted less than a hundred "happy" people .  They still played great.   I never saw Chili Peppers and Santana.  They are great talents

In another completely different venue, I witnessed one of the great funk bandsTower Of Power.  Bucket list material  If you like funk and are intereseted, check them out on Utube and leave a opinion.  Larry Braggs is one great singer . Lenny Williams is also another monument.  Start out with "What is Hip"

I'm sure with the right band and friends along with additional legal refreshment one could stay there over night

I love the Chili Peppers and saw them once. They sucked. I'll still play BSSM any day of the week.

Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the Who, Van Halen

Do you think Young ship wrecked C,S &N?  Neil worked ok on his own put I loved the purity of voices and fluidity in the CSN band before he arrived.

McCartney was perfect and he played guitar and piano as well. His band is solid and the drummer Labriothal? He reminds me of one of our D linemen. Saw them in 01 in AC He played a trio of songs for John, George and Linda Not one dry eye in the house. Also saw Band on Run tour in 76 with Linda and Denny Laine. The Who> I saw them in 71 right after Who's Next was released and again in 74 on the Quadrophenia tour. Pete Townsend, the nose with a stick body haha Van Halen With Roth??? Springsteen with an acoustic flavor to his political peel on stage Thanks for the post

Nice! Yes I saw Van Halen with Roth or else I would have said Van hagar:). Forgot yo list the stones about 5 times. Springsteen 7 times. Genesis was amazing as well. Fleetwood Mac among others. Billy Joel and Elton together we're good also.

This doesn't count, but I was on a cruise of the British isles this summer and a local band from Liverpool came on the ship to entertain in the theater in the evening. They were a Beatles cover band. A local one, not Rain. They were the best Beatles coverband I've ever seen. The guy playing John Lennon was chewing gum while he was singing. I learned that. Lennon always chewed gum while he was singing!

I gave playing a harp a try and had absolutely no idea what to do with the thing. Its too bad, it would have added a lot to what I could have brought to the band. In the end, I had a really solid voice, but that was about it. I will always refer to myself as a vocalist and not a "musician".

The range was what I loved about Plant. I had a wide vocal range and could really do his tunes justice. Given Zepplin's popularity at the time and the limited number of people who could effectively cover his tunes made us pretty popular in our local circle.

LMAO!  Still a little south of dirt, but definitely regretting all of the reckless abandon on the field. Ibubrofen is my friend. I had some older cousins drag me around to shows when I was a wee lad, so my appreciation of live music started pretty early in life.

Best Feats show I saw was at Lisner Auditorium in DC when Lowell George was still at his best(and alive). Phenomenal! Much of "Waiting for Columbus" was recorded at those shows.

Tower of Power is great live.  Saw them in Annapolis a few years back. They are one of the bands I got turned on to in the 70s listening to the "Rock and Roll Jukebox" which was a 2 hour radio spot on a DC classical music station. You got to hear all of the stuff that wasn't being played on the commercial stations(first I heard of Tom Petty before he became poular). Probably the first in this area of what could be considered an alt rock radio show.  WHFS soon followed.

I pretty much listen to and appreciate most music(save the gangsta rap) and now mostly go to shows at smaller venues. Just saw Dave Mason at Ram's Head last month.  Now that dude is old as dirt!  Can still can sing and play though, great show. Saw Jimmie Vaughn there last year as well.

lol!  Light bulbs!  Definitely a product of mind altering substances.

Last time I saw RHCP was in 2007(?), Jupiter and Mars tour. You could tell they were much more "mature"(read clean) and payed more attention to the quality of the sound. Cee Lo warmed up for them(he was still Gnarls Barkely then). I was physically spent after that show, definitely one to remember.

Great stories.   I saw Rain and was stunned That was in Philly and the Mystery Tour Costumes added flavor to the show. I had good experiences with the Stones  How about you?  Check out the band Jo Jo Gunn on Utube  Special Situations, Run, Run,Run and Shake that Fat .  Wow They were insane good in 73.  The Sound crew at M & T could stun everybody with JJG People would want to know.  Two members Ferguson (piano) and Andes (bass) came from Spirit.  Andes went on to Heart.

Nice  And was this a band in NC?  Beyond that Ii have alway liked the Doobies  for harmony and energy  I saw them 7 times  The  show with Skynrd was unfair as all the people were into LS  The Doobs were a warm up band

I've seen Rain a couple of times and thought this local band added a bit more flaire.  They also had costumes.  I've had several good experiences with the Stones but agree they are better in an arena, aren't they all.   I'm only 48 so I was too young to see those concerts in the 70s.  My sister saw Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon Tour.

You actually saw the legend  I never saw Lowell George.  That lineup was the best lineup  The Waiting for Columbus album is probably the best live album ever created. Willin was so pure   I loved the Time loves a Hero album and could play along to all the songs  You saw LG  AWESOME.  LG is legend and you saw him.  What a great memory!!!!   I too cannot take rap as it just sounds the same and lacks Melody.  An artist that really caked up and ended in the urinal is Van Morrison   He played with the lovely Candy Dolfer and his timing was off  I checked out his other work and the poor dude gave up on lyrics. His band especially his bass player is great though.  Glad you are a LF fan  LF and the Ravens go naturally together  They ought to play some at M & T .

Great stories and insight my friend.  Since your sister experienced the PF concert, tell her I too had an epifimy That was a benchmark for me. I have the Pulse DVD and if you can get a copy it would be amazing, especially on good speakers and DVD clarity.

No - it was in Norfolk VA, during the years of 1978-1989. I went to Old Dominion University and our band started there (and I stayed in the area for several years after I graduated, working at NASA Langley in Hampton VA).

We did the VA college circuit - ODU, William & Mary, UVA, U of Richmond and Va Tech/Radford. We also did anything Norfolk had to offer, including their sailor dives. From the outside, Norfolk probably doesn't look like much of a town, but the core of people who lived their during this time were special. A very unique and interesting cast of characters. After over 10 years, it was time for me to move on, but I loved my time there.

Funny I mentioned U2 was probably my top concert all time. When/where did you see them?

I had stated that I saw them in 1984 - I just looked it up and it was 24 April 1983 (War Tour). I said it was their first US tour, but that was not accurate. They apparently had 2 previous tours in 1980 (Boy) and 1981 (October). Still, they had not yet achieved super-group status and played in Norfolk VA at Chrysler Hall .. a modestly sized venue that is build for orchestra, so as long as the band keeps the volume under control, the sound is great. Actually, I saw Frank Zappa there once and as he started the show the first thing he said was, "This is a nice hall .. please don't F it up)!

The other thing I always found interesting about this particular show was, I saw the Grammys the year that U2 won for "Beautiful Day" and as John Stewart was introducing them he said "I saw them in Norfolk VA in the early 80s and it was the best show I'd ever seen"! Who knows, maybe I bumped into him and didn't know it (as he as apparently a college student in the area during that time).

If you wanted to look up the specifics of your show, check out this site:

http://tours.atu2.com/tour/

You can see the set list for your show.

Love talking about concerts!

The area show was the Verizon center in DC.

I have also seen them at RFK stadium twice and FedEx field once.

Yeah I am crazy jealous of you for seeing them so early on and in such a small venue.  My god if I had a time machine....

When I turned 40 my wife got me VIP tickets to the No Line On The Horizon show at FedEx.  We had private parking.  A goodie bag with,,,, ummmm stuff.  A pre show catered meal.  And our own private section near the side of the stage.

Not as stellar as the name might imply, but way cool none the less.

I actually have a book that covers every U2 show / tour.  Its quite in depth indeed, but not as user friendly as the link you shared ( obviously ) .

Yes, we all have someone to be jealous of when it comes to concert going. I'm the youngest of 4 and my older brothers saw some monumental shows and I've always been jealous of them. Late 60s/Early 70s acts ... A good example - Allman Bros at Painters Mill in 1971, which turns out was Duane Allman's last concert before he died.

Still, awesome that you got a VIP view of U2. The band at their height was as good as it gets. They've been downgraded over time, mainly because people eventually grew weary of Bono's act. Still, I consider them in the upper-echelon of all-time.
